The crazy thing about this scene is that despite being shown multiple times throughout the game, we still haven’t gotten a firm grasp of what actually happened. We got a nice explanation at some point in Arcueid’s route, but you could feel they left out a LOT of details (I’m saying this as someone who’s only read the Remake). Brilliant way to make a scene incredibly important while barely mentioning anything about it
I actually think they should have omitted any explanation at all and left any details for the far side routes. Nasu went against the rule of "show, don't tell", which is kind of strange for such an experienced writer. I don't remember if the OG had this infodump though, if it had then it's understandable as back then Nasu was just at the start of his writing journey.
@@greenlitlleman I think some details/explanation was necessary because it introduced the main villain of Arcueid's route. I've gotten a bit more insight since I posted my original comment on this situation, but I still love how they hinted at the crack level of Shiki's history
@@kaz7690 The story doesn't need important story beats and plot twists to be explained in an info dump. It would've been more dramatic to hear everything from SHIKI himself or him realizing some of the truth in the flashback, instead we just have characters explaining things to Shiki in a normal conversation... the same thing actually happened to Arcuied's backstory. It was well better executed for Ciel and Noel- spoilers/ not just a random flashback, but a flashback that's actually the result of using a mental attack, that was damn clever. Nasu's writing improved, though he still was kind of lazy with too many copy-righted text from OG that feels not very coherent. The biggest disappointment for me was how he didn't bother with writing a proper resolution for Ciel's True End, Arcuied is instantly forgiven and run aways and then we just have 3 minutes directly copied from OG good ending. He put way more effort in Ciel's normal end, that with showing how things were proceeding after the final fight.
I think that was the point. Obviously this plot point has its ties to the near side routes (since you know, the host is SHIKI after all) but the actual contextualization feels better placed for the far side routes since those deal more with the mansion and its family history. Right now it’s more so a hint to what’s to come, which is what Arcs route has always been for the story tbh, og *and* remake.
Geez compared to the OG that CG/ost is BRUTAL. I can feel the trauma getting pumped right into my veins despite not being the one crying. It's with changes like these that you realize the remake was a necessity
Not fun fact: According to Hisui route, that image is exactly what she saw that day. This image is all the explanation you need why Akiha and Hisui hate SHIKI so much, at the point that Akiha disowns her blood brother.
The only reason the inversion impulse struck him so early was because of good ol’ Michael Broa Valdamjong, no? And this all happened because Dr. Arach presumably scouted out the Tohnos for Roa.
Be careful. A masterpiece it may be, this song is notoriously depressing. Don't listen to it *_too much,_* or else it may start affecting you. Emotional health is no joke, folks. Take care.

It's a tragedy but in a different sense than Shirou and Kiritsugu. Both of the Emiya were people traumatized by a tragic event which led them to devote the rest of their life to an ideal to make sense of their suffering, to give them a reason to live on despite what they considered their sins. Shiki don't have that, because he doesn't have a scarred childhood, he simply lost it. His old family, his old memories, everything that defined the young Nanaya Shiki was "lost". Shiki tragedy come to the fact than he himself has nothing, no past, nothing dear. The only thing that help him to keep his humanity despite this is his promise to Aoko, to try to become a good person, someone who can apologize if he do something wrong.
@@crash-testproductions9341 Shiki simply losing it his tragic memory🤔, maybe in Ciel normal end on Tsukihime original but i don't think so in another route maybe not especially in Kohaku ending route when he go to Nanaya's forest with Kohaku as vacation and i bet really fully regain all his past before his Nanaya family massacre and Makihisa manipulation his mind and memory(just to bad Nasu didn't really make that happen in Kagetsu Tohya😔)

To be fair, I think what far side will be remade completely, with the exception of Shiki, SHIKI and Akiha incident of course.
