Excellent video. Very nice job on the clean installation. I placed a 4 way 12 volt splitter in my glove box. I run all my accessories out of the glove box; rear dash cam, ham radio, CB, etc. I use the trim throughout the vehicle to conceal all the wiring. It can be tedious, but it looks so much nicer than to have wires hanging all over. Thanks for the video and commentary.

Great Video. I've had my Rove R2-K2 Dash Cams for the last 6-months and I have been using the suction cup mount and dropping the wire straight down. With summer coming on and the need to use a windshield sunscreen, I need to do the wire re-routing… You gave a very detailed demonstration. By the way, I bought mine directly from Rove, through the Amazon Store, and both were only $89.99 in mid-December 2023, it might have been a pre-Christmas Sale… Again, thank you for a great video!
I've actually seen them going for as little as $60 lately. You might want to check out my other video using the other mounts that isn't the suction cup the static cling film is actually really great for situations like yours with the suction cup falling off

I bought this camera for my truck. I’m a truck driver and I drive 1999. Peterbilt 379 since my windshields are flat. I cannot attached it to my windshield. I watched your video when you install it in your car and it works for your car but if any truck drivers wants to buy this do not buy it does not you cannot attached to any truck windshield just so you know. Other than that, I got nothing else bad to say about this camera.

The user guide seems to indicate that you would specify your zone in terms of UTC offset, e.g. GMT-0800, and not "named" zones such as US/Pacific? If this is the case, is there a way to automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time, so you don't have to remember changing the zone twice a year?
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this. I looked and it seems to automatically adjust the timezone using satellite reporting data depending on your location. I moved across the country and the time is still correct. 👍
I have both the R2-4k and R2-4k pro waiting to install. I have to remove my G1C and G1WH as the videos are getting corrupted. I am interested to see which Rove is more practical.
I agree. I have the same one you reviewed and I love it! I saw a review of the pro and the presenter stated it wasn't worth upgrading to, but I think the faster WiFi 6 connection would be nice for faster downloading.
I was hoping for a simulated road rage demonstration just to see if it can pick up the death threats and f-bombs through the mic. Also it would be good to know the plate and car of whoever flipped me off during a night drive so that way I can look for them weeks later and then flip them off when I finally find them and then speed off like a coward. Nevertheless good review!

Soda Rove are 24K it's a good camera right but I wanted to know how to do the motion detector on the camera for like overnight maybe two three nights so I was sitting in my driveway I'm not too smart when it comes to these electronic devices but you were helpful turning it on and I learned how to erase all the history you know it takes while you're playing around with it yes if you can help me out maybe I don't know how you could do it but motion-activated on the dash cam thank you
The motion activation isn't for I'd the camera sees motion. The motion activation is if the car is moved like in a fender bender, or someone slams the door.
I’ve gone through 2 of these + 2 sd cards. I’be gotten as far as the initial screen where it asks to install the card and repower. Keeps asking to install the card even though the card is installed. 2 units/2cads same results
You glossed over the card not rewriting over itself. This is called loop recording and this camera says it can do that. Yet I have not seen mine rewrite when the card is full. If you can tell me how to make it do this, please do.

This camera doesn't connect to the internet on its own. You could set it up to record, and review footage later, but it doesn't connect to your phone if you're away from it.
I bought the memory card they recommend and the camera failed to recognize the card. I tried several times as they suggest in the instructions (so it seem to be a common problem) but failed to format the card. Returned to Amazon same day.
@@GrantButler i may not know what I'm talking about but since I need a 110 power inverter in my semi for a t.v I assumed you would need somthing for car to home power? Thinking you would be bringing more than the recommended amps to your dash cam🤷♂️
You might have to reach out to their customer service, I'm not totally sure of the power limitations. However, I imagine its just like a cell phone, if you plug in a phone and its fully charged it stops drawing power, and if your phone doesn't take 100w fast charging, it'll still charge at the slower rate with a 100w charger. Where this is powered through USB I don't imagine it can push that much power through that cord. Let me know if you find out more info, and I'm wrong.

there's 2 ways you can do it. You can simply clean the surface that you want to apply it to, then stick the mount's pad to that surface. it also comes with a electrostatic film that you can use on glass. you clean the glass where you want to mount it with alcohol; stick the sticky side to the glass, press out any bubbles, then attach the sticky mount. I'll try to make a video tutorial for you this week.
That is such a great idea. I think that if they go to the treble of running a USB port to behind the mirror they might as well just put a camera there for you
I am having a problem with Date/Time. First, I don't see a "time zone setting" in system settings. When I enter the date and time in "date/time" settings it just reverts back to a random time and date. I don't know if my camera is missing the "time zone setting" or if I am missing something. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
While it does have a battery, NO, because the battery only lasts for about 5 min. If you're referring to watching from your phone, you can watch previously recorded videos when you take it out of camera mode, and put it into wifi mode then connect to it in the Rove app
Do you have an iPhone?? I searched everywhere for that app and the one for my android looks totally different. I even went through every dash cam app there was available and none were the color blue with the word ROVE in the middle of it. The only one that came up was a a white colored app with the word ROVE and in small letters underneath said dash cam. When I try to open the app it makes you sign up with your email and name but then when you try and submit it, an error comes up on my phone stating there was a JavaScript error. Any suggestions?
It never fell off of my first car that I installed it in. However, as soon as I moved it to my moving truck, then to my company car, I may have gotten some dust on it and so it's Fallen maybe three times
No, I leave it up. But you can leave the suction cup on, and take just the camera if you're that worried. However, it also can act as a deterrent when you're not there. If your car gets bumped or shaken it can activate the camera on its own to record for a minute to catch whatever caused the disturbance
@@GrantButler I have another question leaving it plugged in into the usb even when the car is parked and leaving the dash cam on do you think that will that drain battery?
I don't know about winter yet, but summer it did just fine. It fell off once or twice on really hot days that I didn't use my car, so it got really hot.

When attaching mine I cleaned it well and it keeps falling off on hot days. I wish the cords came out the top. Nice detailed video.

You can buy the hardwire kit. You’d have to run it the other way towards your fuse box and it plugs right into a fuse no splicing on your part.

Pretty sure the voltage from the wall is different from the vehicle and can damage the unit being plugged into a wall outlet

When are auto manufacturers going to start putting usb power behind your rearview mirror so you can avoid running cables everywhere?

There are adapters available to put on the connection for the mirrors, unfortunately, I have a Chevrolet and they don't make them for GM vehicles.
Question every time I turn my car it asks if i want to record instead of automatically recording is that a setting I need to turn on ?

I do not have an IPhone. My only suggestion would be go to Rove's website to see if you can find a link to the app there.

Isn’t it illegal to mount anything on the window? Are you able to mount it directly on the the rear view mirror behind it?
I've never heard of a law like that where I'm from. Never has an issue with police either.

I don't know about winter yet, but summer it did just fine. It fell off once or twice on really hot days that I didn't use my car, so it got really hot.
If this camera has wifi, can’t you make sure you’re connected right from your car, in your own driveway, and update the firmware that way?
No, it projects wifi, not receives. You connect your phone to the wifi it puts out. (It also won't have an internet connection)
Is there a better option in the market? Preferably cloud base, so that it save videos on cloud directly.
