THIS WAS WORTH THE STRUGGLE

- Our house plans always had a wraparound deck in them, but as we started looking at the proposed footprint, we realized that we wanted a bigger deck so we started talking to our designer and engineer. Then we brought the new plans to our county to have the plans approved.
2.5 months ago, we broke ground on our deck extension project, and as we took on this massive project we kept wondering if we’d made a mistake.
Was the deck going to be too big?
Was the project taking us too long and making it so we’d never meet our deadline for our final inspection?
Could our bodies hold out for one more crazy project like this?
But we pushed those thoughts to the side and started focusing on the end goal, and little by little this massive project came together.
Some help from friends along the way and the most mild summer weather ever made this deck project go a little smoother, and now we can finally say that we have completed this amazing project!
We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and we can’t wait for you to follow along as we complete the deck boards on our wrap around deck.

And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on TH-cam. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

Coming up! We'll be posting the pic so to our community page. The question is, do you want Ryan or Sara on the "bow"?

Hello guys, a huge deck.

👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪Nice Job Awesome Deck 🙏
Your deck looks awesome.. my husband was wondering what is your location.. he was wondering by looking at the 🌲
@@sharonyonker4688 we are in Washington State.
@@OneFootOfftheGrid thanks😊
@@sharonyonker4688I would have guessed Canada. The trees are pretty.
just a tip do not forget to weather proof your deck boards once you get the floor fully completed, otherwise in time they will rot. we have my boyfriend's parents house, his dad built the deck and never weather proofed the boards...so we have a deck filled with rotted holes in the boards.
Nice view.
The deck looks kind of small. ( just kidding)😂
If i lived in your neck of the woods I would want something that size too. So many different functions it will be able to support.
Wishing you many years of enjoyment on it.
I know at some point all of the decking will blend in.
I think for now the different colors give it some character. I like it.
Congratulations on getting to this point .
Anxious to see you again on the next video.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Stay safe.
I guess we could have made it a little bigger. LOL. I think the different board colors give it character too. It will be interesting to see how they weather and age. Worst case scenario we just sand them down and restain. Thanks as always for watching and supporting our channel Jim.
Well done. You made me laugh!!
That is always one of our goals. Lol
Lovely area for grandkids to ride tricycles. 😂😂. It will be in your future!
👍👍👍
LOL... Butyl tape. Phonetically pronounced (Be-u-till) I struggled with that one too for a while.
That is what I thought it was. It's an odd word for sure.
Er dröm om en bad tunna är kanon MEN lägg tunnan i sådana fall framför ute golvet . Tyngden från Badtunnan kan ställa till det med hela grunden
Yes I have. It all rots same time. LOL
My vote is Bew-tul tape
Yeah, now you gotta get some deck furniture and some flowers and a grill and you gotta have a party money money money money.money🎤
Hiya, also forgot to ask, do you get much ice and snow where you are?
I know where they are....but i don't think they want it publicsized.😅😮
We are on in Western Washington State
I like what you do but...I would love peace first and fore most
How many square meters will your large balcony be?
What’s the tape for is that something that’s required or I don’t get it I never saw nobody putting tape down like that?
Sounds like byootl😊
That is what I thought. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel.
Nu älskar denna Familj att krypa i leran så också denna gång 🙂
Looks awesome! I love your teamwork.
Thank you. We've had a fair bit of practice. We are getting pretty good at it by this point.
Vi som tittar på allt arbete som ni gör har flera än jag sätt vad denna sköna familj missat med terrass bygget ? 🙂
Well done 😂
Decking looks awesome....well done
Glad you like it
What state y'all in ? I am a newby
We are in Washington State.
What's a yoghurt retreat?
Why such a big gap in the boards? The gap will will be huge soon
@@PatiencesMom the boards were actually pretty dry and the gaps have actually shrunk now that we’ve had some rain.
I’m chuckling about the ‘no one will ever know’ part. Except the thousands of us watching from afar. 😂😂🎉🎉
Oh yeah, I forgot about you guys. You'll just have to keep it a secret for us.
Its pronounced Butyl Tape 😂
How or why did You fall for the Joist Tape scam? Critical Thinking out for scammers.
@@dhgifts share some of your wisdom. Why is it a scam? Seems to make sense to protect the top of the joist. Have you ever tore out old decks? It’s always the top of the joist that rots first.
