U can consider Malaysia as the last kingdom who still keep the tradition of Philippine, Indonesia, southern Thailand n southern Myanmar. Remnant of Srivijaya Empire.
Malaysia consist of 14 States. 9 of the states are Malay States and all states has it own Monarch we have 7 Sultan. But one state we called the ruler as Raja (King) which is The state of Perlis and One Called as Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan (literally The one who being made as supreme Lord). Each state they have their own order of chivalry as well as in the federal level. That why you can see each sultan wearing their own Royal Orders.
Agong means King. Sultan's rule the 9 states in Malaysia and once every 5 years they rotate to take the spot as the King of Malaysia (Agong). Although its a constitutional monarchy, when politics get messy, the King intervenes and elects the politician that he sees fit to run the country.

Hi guys, thanks for the reaction. Some additional info about the Malay rulers or sultan/raja. 'Yang di Pertuan Agong' roughly means 'Paramount Ruler'. He is first among equals. He is *not* 'King of Kings'. That lofty title belongs only to God. Malays are Muslims and do not call or see the Agong as king of kings. The title is derived from the title of the ruler of Negeri Sembilan state which in turn got it from the Minangkabau state of Pagaruyung in Sumatera, Indonesia. These things come about because of history and geography, just as there are many aspects of Danish culture in Ireland and Scotland. The Sultan of Perak holds a PhD from Harvard university. His consort is a chemical engineer. The sultan of Selangor is a yatchsman who sailed round the world when he was regent. He is a descendent of the Bugis of Sulawesi, Indonesia. The sultan of Terengganu is a world class horseman. He won gold in the Sea Games. The Regent of Pahang, the Agong's home state, graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy as did the Agong. They and the courtiers are wearing traditional formal Malay dress. They are distinguished by their headdress. Each state has a distinct headdress. The yellow booklet that the Agong raised to his forehead and kissed at the start of the ceremony is the Koran. The long weapon or Kris is the symbol of his power. The metal for the weapon came from all the states in Malaysia. Phonetically Malay is actually very similar to Tagalog/Pilipino, as is Maori, all being Malayo-Polynesian languages. Salamat 😁
