I know! Right! I've told her that out of the other shelling channels her voice doesn't step on my nerves, nor does she just talk incessantly. She points out and explains where needed , good jokes or one liners and let's us see sea life, aka love the dolphins etc, puts back sea life in the shallows. Lol. I find myself muttering on others ones I may check out "don't be a schmuck, it's struggling put it in the water". Lol. I shelled alot when I lived there in Sarasota for 8 years I new the main 2 differences in shells. That the two types of seashells are univalves and bivalves. Univalves come from one-shelled mollusks such as snails or conchs. Bivalves come from two-shelled seashells such as mussels or clams.
In regards to any thing outside of the conchs I was clueless on names. So thinks to you I know the names instead of mini that looks like a fat horse conch etc znd instead it's a clam, now I can say Calico s that are white with Burgundy, pink, yellow or orange are the ones I like. My favorite from years gone by were the giant heart cockle which I called the huge ruffle that looked over fried. So you've educated me. Plus I've read a bit about shells from the Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, South and West Pacific and Caribbean alot since 2000 as I've had more time. Just now diving into the shells of North America the last 3 months as I've found these shelling sites. I was never on y tube except for music until about a year ago when my favorite dog trainer and rescue family expanded from FB to y- tube. When I went to "The Farm" in
Jilliby which is a large non-metropolitan suburb located in the Dooralong Valley of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, I discovered shelling sites. I watched a ton and narrowed them down to a couple I liked. Passed them along to mom and dad whom enjoy seeing an area close to where they lived in Port Charlotte and where they went alot on weekends from 84 to 96 before moving back to our home state.
My fave shell was the hinged jewelbox with that gorgeous purple interior! But they are all lovely. I even liked the horse conch interior you threw back! Thanks for a lovely day shelling Sharmon! Hugs from Virginia!

I would switch out the sunray venus clam for shark eyes but otherwise I think you're about right. Plus I'm drawn to certain shells so I ALWAS pick them up when I see them. This summer is going to be interesting. The shells start hiding so I have to really work to find the goodies! Thank you so much for coming along with me to the beach each Sunday!

I love Marco and really enjoyed the beach walk this evening. It really was the day for Alphabet Cones, but my favorite this week would be that gorgeous larger Horse Conch. And your Lace Murex cleaned up beautifully! You are very right about tiny little hermit crabs inhabiting Augers, I love those little shells, but even after thorough inspection I occasionally get a crawler. I usually spread out my haul each day of the week somewhere in the hotel room so it’s easy to edit before packing and once in awhile one of those little Augers will start moving across the table…always a good excuse to go back out on the beach, lol. Have a great week.
I give my bag a final look-see so I don't have to drive back to the beach! I have had a few hitch hikers, so I try to make sure the shells are empty with the price of gas and all 😅 I've heard horror stories about people getting freaked out by the critters in their hotel rooms!

I happened onto a video of a Chinese lady named Ying who is considered a pearl hunter. I think she is in China, but I couldn't tell for sure. She was picking up all kinds of shells that we see with you - all occupied - that she then took home to cook. Even starfish!!! Broke my heart! lol
You should see the photos I get sent to me from the fish markets up in NY. Whelks, conchs - all I want are the shells! It's actually kinda fascinating what people in other parts of the world eat. I would prefer someone take a creature to eat it than to take it to kill it for its shell.
@@SWFBeachLife, I do have to agree with you! If they are taking the shell, please eat the creature, and in this circumstance, they do. They also find pearls in all kinds of fish.
@@suzisharp132 I've seen some of the videos. They are insane! Sometimes I feel like they stuff those colorful pearls in the creatures but it sure is entertaining to watch!

Have you changed cameras cos the close ups were VERY clear. Lovely shells again, loved the inside of the buttercup lucene, that was pretty. And I prefer the brown colour of the horse conch over the “clean” colour but you can’t have everything. Stay safe x

I suspect you'll be delighted. And being in Fort Myers means you're close enough to Captiva, Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach AND Lovers Key to go exploring. Try to be the first one on the beach, or shell at low tide. I hope the trip is amazing for you!

* I still don't see the difference in the Gulf Oyster Drill & a baby Horse conch.. Glad you tell us when you find them.. ~ The Florida Fighting Conch at the24:05 mark is really Unusual with the Vertical lines instead of the horizontal bands,, COOL... My Fave is the Gaudy Nautica..
It has taken me picking up hundreds of these shells to start seeing the difference in some of them. Those little drills will still trip me up, but I do know the juvenile horse conchs so at least I have that going for me 😂 I swear I used to find more shark eyes than gaudy's, but these days I find way more gaudy's. Had to laugh at your diving pelican comment because I had just returned from a week at the south end of Myrtle Beach and loved watching those pelicans diving. Unfortunately the shelling was terrible, as always seems to be the case on the south end of Myrtle. Glad tobe able to get my shelling fix through your video.
I love when the pelicans cluster and have themselves a little feeding frenzy. They can put on quite a show! I'm sorry you didn't find many treasures at Myrtle Beach. I might make a note to skip the south end if I ever go shelling up there!

OK, I'll give it to you on the THIRD FFC. It was very pretty!🤩 "The husband" hasn't been shelling for some time! Welcome back! I once got a shot video of several small crown conchs eating something dead in the water. It was pretty fascinating. I bet if you'd had a little pronged garden hand tool, you could have found a bunch of stuff in those "sweet spots". Maybe worth carrying... Just saying... 😊 That's a REALLY big LM! How long was it? Wow! I can't believe how dark that AC was at 19 min! I'd say that is a great HC! 😂 re the FFC's!! That LM cleaned up very nice! I don't use 100% bleach - about 4:1 water to bleach. I've had better luck with the HC's that way. Thanks, Sharmon! Now that gas is finally going down, I am definitely coming down soon. Will let you know... xxoo
The lace was about 2-1/2 inches - much bigger than I normally find. It was just such a fun day and the good shells kept showing up. I was so glad the weather cooperated. I would have been bummed to have driven the 1+ hour and paid for parking only to have to turn around without any treasures. You're going to be so happy when you finally see the beaches down here! Mind you - I would still probably wait for fall :)

Going back the 1st week of November. We stayed on sanibel last time but this time we are staying near tigertail, plan on doing this, tigertail, and kice for a week. Can't wait.

@@SWFBeachLife you certainly pointed us in the right direction last time by telling us to head to tigertail. We found everything but a junonia and true tulip there. Although we did find pieces of both there
It's nothing like it was back in the 60's. The only thing there was Kelly Gants Motel Marco , a fishing resort with 7 cabins. There was the general store at the Snook Hole and that was it. My parents would go snook fishing down there and I went along. The beach was deserted , no one was living there. You could drive down it to Caxhambas Pass and get in some really great Tarpon fishing from the beach at the inlet. I would take a break and collect sand dollars along the beach. It was a wild and woolly place , just about everyone had a side arm either on them or in their boat.
I wish I had been able to see that. I know they cut up Marco to bits, almost zero land that isn't built on, but at least there's Keewaydin and some other islands that are still quite natural. I've also seen pictures of other beach resort towns from years ago. It must have been so much fun to experience that. Thank you for sharing!
@@SWFBeachLife ... It was a whole different world and perfect before the Mackle Brothers got there and started doing ( what I call ) there destruction of the area. The fising and solitude was desirably and totally terrific.
@@Oldsparkey At least residents did a good job with conservation. Over half the island is for the critters and no big high rises at least makes it feel like you’re in a Florida island and not at some big built up resort town.

At first I thought maybe I had made the drive for a couple of conchs but boy as the tide went out the goodies really started showing up. I bet that place is awesome for snorkeling! I usually get a little nervous when the shells start hiding this time of year, but I've been so lucky at the places I've chosen to visit. I hope my luck continues so I can share treasures all summer long. Thank you so very much for always watching my adventures! ❤️❤️❤️

Those cones have a mind of their own - I was shocked that we found so many! And I think that is a perfectly acceptable reason to come to Florida. To beachcomb until you find that alphabet cone! Thanks so much for watching!
