For those deeper waters have you considered making a clear or glass bottom bucket? When living in the Bahamas Islands we had a bucket with a piece of glass on the bottom. You can put it in the water and look through the glass. Now plexiglass is available so you can substitute that for glass. It's a little safer making you trips to the shore a little more fun.

I have thought about trying to create something to see the bottom better! I just looked it up and I can buy one - LOL! I'll have to keep that in mind while I'm searching and see if I think it could help. Thank you for the tip!

Prayers for you and all who are being impacted by this storm. My husbands family are native Floridians who have experienced these hurricanes over the centuries so we know the devastation but we also know the strength and courage and community of the Floridian wether you are a new native or been there forever. Florida always rises from the ashes.
I keep asking myself do I really want the persnickety hurricanes and lightening storms and the tremendous stress of preparation and anxious waiting and surviving that Florida does better than most states? Now I am an "elder" and a widow alone, yet here I stay. And I admit this lovely exploring lady sharing beautiful beaches, the ocean and it's secrets she shares and the shells that are one of my favorite art forms, do help to anchor me here with the storms and gators and pythons and monster insects. Yet then just one sunset seeming to rise from the ocean embracing all those fortunate to feel the unearthly beauty full of promise for a beautiful day of Florida miracles - tomorrow.

Florida Turf! Didn't we vote out Greyhound racing by 2023? There is a spirit here in Florida - it is downright impossible to quit. So I stay.
Prayers also for the small towns feeling overlooked. Our Manager put together a community effort filling trucks of water, food, groceries, baby needs, medical,etc. for the people who have great need. Fort Meyers and Sanibel Island have headlined the news and rightly so but there are also small towns hit hard.

This was a super good video! I was in Myrtle Beach, SC last week and one morning awoke to dark patches on the sand near the water. During the night big groups of shells washed up! I found many olives! Never found those before.

Captain Carlos is wonderful. I always have a great time on his tours. I went out with him the 2nd week of September and found a lot of great shells.
What a treasure he is! It was so fun to be out with someone who knows so much about the area!

They are very rare, but there is a right handed lightening whelk. They have been found in SWF, something to put on your bucket list.
I have heard of them and I would definitely be blown away if I ever got to find one!

Please stay safe this week. On the east side of Florida we have been having rain for the last 4 days. Our swale area was flooded so bad today. The ground is so saturated already I can only imagine what it is going to be like with the hurricane coming through. We are 7 miles inland, so we should be okay.

We're pretty soggy already too so the rain we're going to get is definitely going to flood some areas out. We live a few miles from the bay but hopefully the storm surge won't be all THAT bad. It's my first hurricane so I'm learning a whole bunch! I'm really hoping it's not that bad and I can gleefully go out there shelling!

I've been there as a toyrist . we got dropped off and left to walk the island. There was a bird sanctuary back then. A horrible storm came up and we had to leave. I d love to go back

One of the things that impresses me tremendously about your beaches is the lack of washed up trash. I live in Oregon and while our beaches are truly spectacular , we don’t really have many shells. What we do get is loads of trash and plastic. 😢 It is interesting to find Japanese items and old glass floats from fishing nets though.
I thought you had to go to Alaksa for those glass globes! I do have to agree that our beaches are very clean. That being said I'm sure Hurricane Ian dumped a bunch so I'll probably be cleaning up the beach for a few months or so 😃

I sure hope your okay. I went to Sanibel last year as it was on my bucket list. I am heartbroken for the residents along with all of us that cant enjoy its splendor as it was. I believe it will be once again. It'll take time. I'm so sorry for all the losses.
