  • The TI-30XIIS is a basic scientific calculator made by Texas Instruments. This calculator is right for someone who doesn't need much more than a 4 function calculator or an elementary school student. Although this device might be right for some people, in most cases, I'd recommend checking out some of TI's more advanced scientific calculator models.

I like that it emphasizes the natural log as LN and not ln because until I was 14 I thought it was in and not Ln.

Awesome! I was wondering if the other ones were worth it. Thanks!

I learned how to use this starting in middle school. I tried the newer Multi View calculator and still ended up going back to the trusty TI30XiiS

The only reason this is the most popular scientific calculator is because it’s the one required by most public schools. When I was in middle school we were required to buy this specific model. I don’t know why they made us buy the inferior model. To make solving math problems more difficult? It’s not a great calculator, the screen stopped working on mine after a few years. No amount of direct sunlight on the solar panel would make the screen brighter. It just kept getting dimmer until it was unusable.

If I had been your teacher, I wouldn’t even allowed you to use calculators with built in solvers such as the 36XPRO until you were at least in high school to make sure you knew how to do the math. And that is probably why they required the TI-30XiiS even though I would have let you buy the 30XS or the Casio equivalent.

I work as an Activity Therapist at a prison. I started a Math Tutoring class. The education department uses this calculator, so I bought this calculator to learn how to use.

This guy is being overly critical of the TI-30XiiS. It has been around for quite a few years. It doesn’t have all the whistles and bells that the newer machines have. However, it is reliable and easy to use. And if you actually know how to do the math, this calculator will actually serve you well. Until about the early-mid 1970’s, engineers didn’t even have this available to them. They used slide-rules.

It's like Casio FX 100 ms.

This model was fine back in the day, but in 2023 it is best used to shim up a wobbly table. It bothers me that TI - which makes excellent modern scientific calculators - even offers this has-been today.

It's pretty mid, but it can get the job done in a lot of cases. There are definitely a lot better calculators out there, but I'd say it does what it does for cheap.

Hello I want to buy a calculator and I am thinking these models:
    fx-CG50
    fx-9750giii
    fx-9860giii
    fx-cp400
    fx-CG500
But I don't know which is the best. Which one is the best or which one do you recommend?
Or do you recommend something better?
    Thanks.

My instructor in my math class required me to run this calculator when I attended a communist community college, now that I'm not in college I just use a cheap calculator when figuring area for carpentry.
