Hearing this song would make any Marine proud! My oldest brother was a Marine in the early to middle 1960's. He spent one year in Vietnam. Just recently he heard the song Semper fidelis and teared up. He said it brought back many memories. To my brother Eddie I love you and thank you for your Service and Sacrifice for our country!
Love the West Point Band and the Hellcats..my late Brother was a proud member of the Band (Hellcats) for many years...Went up to see the Dress Parades every Saturday in the 50's. Also most Parades they played in.
Do I like this march? I l LOVE IT TO PLAY THIS OVER AND OVER AND CAN'T STOP!!! It seems i have gotten addicted not only the melody..but the beat ..the timing is so perfect to march to ..I truly admire whether it is " The President's Own" US Marine Band or the West Point Band playing the SEMPER FIDELIS....but true to the meaning of this sacred motto. ..I am very faithful and loyal to this amazing composition of John Philip Souza....the musicians of the West Point Band makes it interesting to watch them perform with their little acts of show and the specific stand of their trumpet section to punctuate this march with the melodius score. In total....will not be surprised that one will stand in ovation everytime the SEMPER FIDELIS is played..........
@@WestPointBand Just like the members of the West Point Band...i enjoy music...not just listening to it but also playing as an artist...with years studying at 3 conservatories of music when i was young...made me quite sensitive to every note played...that is why i admire very much how a composer writes the scores of a musical composition like the marches played so perfectly just as how the composer wants the piece of music executed and played. To the West Point Band..you have my utmost respect and admiration for I know how it is and what you go through to play as well as each member of the Band does. From the heart.....FM
Awesome performance. The Hellcats marching on stage for the drum and bugle trio was an inspired bit of musicianship. Really first rate. Thanks for posting this.
I marched to this in the Marines years ago, but have to admit that I didn't know it was called Semper Fidelis after all of these years. I was just reading up on John Phillip Sousa and found out. I should be court-martialed, or at least get Office Hours for this oversight. (-:
First time I've ever heard the second strain played softly first time through. Don't think that's how Sousa did it (though he did for most of his other works) but nice to hear some variation.
Probably the first time in eighty years that a United States military band played the trio and finale of this march on (valveless) field trumpets in F for which Sousa actually write the march. A well-known natural trumpet builder from Chicago offered the director, in person, to build a set of four such trumpets for the Marine Band five years ago and donate them to the band for free and never heard from him. So much for Marine Corps "tradition!"
I think the Hellcats use single-valve B-flat/F bugles based on the M1892 Field Trumpet. The Marines could counter by playing Semper Fidelis with M1879 F Trumpets. A little competition is a good thing!

West Point Band nn
I love the way the second strain was done
The USMA (WP) Band continues to provide outstanding music despite budget cuts that have decreased the size of the concert band.

That ironic moment when an Army military academy band plays the Marine Corps march
Semper Fi!

The Army did justice to this song! Bravo Soldiers!

Dios les bendigan con amor y paz Amén
Played at a good rifle regiment marching pace. Instinctively I want to step off.
I believe sousa considered this to be his best march but of course we know now that he was wrong...lol
Not far off. It'd almost certainly be his second or third (depending on where you want to place Washington Post).
Very nice homogenous sound.
The ARMY bands are the best
Armed love! .. cool ,for us f heads. Lol
