Oh man, I wish I watched this earlier! I just ran my first marathon and did not race well. I ran the SLC marathon and was told to train going uphill because there was a lot of climbs. But didn't realize that the first 6-7 miles are downhill and went out way too fast and burned out my legs by 14 miles. I did not get my goal time but learned a ton. I am starting to incorporate strength training now and hopefully will come back a better runner. Thank you for the tips!

SLC is definitely a challenging course! I did the half there a number of years ago and it’s a good one. Good job with the strength training! Honestly, that’s the secret sauce. I wish I learned that years ago. When is your next race?

@@CoachJasonatRunningSecrets I haven't picked one yet! I am focusing on strength training and my gait before I start racing again. The marathon revealed a lot of my weaknesses haha.

thankful that you are back to making videos!
would love to see a sub 3 hour marathon since that is what I am going for right now. I have a marathon PR of 3:29 from 2 years ago. Half PR is 1:28:40 and 10k at 39:10 all of these times are from 2022 and I have not run anything else in that time line.

Thanks for watching! I’ll work on one! Focus on getting mileage up and some marathon pace work in and you’ll get there 👏🏼

3:47 my second marathon one month ago - missed my goal by 2 min. I was battling a calf cramp for the last 25 km, which I never had during training, at same pace, same condition, same nutrition/hydration, same gear, and same route! It is a puzzle that I have solve before I can achieve my next goal of 3:40.

PR 4:02 (my 1st marathon in 2019.). Next is berlin in 3 months, 3:30-3:45 should be possible (half PR is 1:45) but I usually struggle in the last 10k.

So close! What was your nutrition like? And what were your long runs like?

A newbie to the marathon. My best HM is 1:53 and left too much in the tank. The previous HM was not great, over baked it in the first half and learnt a meaningful lesson,,😂. So 3:45 is probably too aggressive.

How long should the easy runs be? I'm doing your sample weekly layout now and doing 6 miles on the 4 easy runs and 2 hours on my long run

Awesome! I’d say if your long run is around 2 hours right now, 30-45 minutes easy is probably sufficient.
