Not worse. It's nature happening. I remember years ago a landslide had blocked a small river. The state left it alone and the river found its own new route. The state left it alone because they said it was nature doing her thing.
Hwy 50 is the major southern road to Lake Tahoe and major Ski Resorts along the way. Must be kept clear in case of big storm could isolate the Lake residents.
Imagine if them blasting the rock made a new rock slide happen. Cool they blow it up but um if tree life is low then plant the seeds on the sides come on.
Why wasn't it pushed down the hill? So many places where roadways are, there are steep, unsound hills/mountains. Why don't the hills get knocked down much more and have a safe grade next to the roadways? We have the ability.
@@jaylittleton1 I asked a simple question realizing so much of HWY 50 in the mountains there is no civilization below. I didn't ask to get an indirect swing at my head. How about just say there are homes below? Now, are you so familiar with the area that you know in fact there are homes below that area or are you assuming?
What's a bunch of bullcrap Caltrans. What have you ever seen vegetation growing on the side of a bluff. It's your lack of work on them plus it make it fall cuz you didn't stabilized to begin with you knew it's going down basically just like all the other ones too. Blame it on the fire in drought to cover your asses.💪🏾👍🏽🤙🏾✋🏽🙋🏽♂️👏🏾🙏🏽🙏🏽.
What’s really scary about this is that obviously someone could have been under that rock. Caltrans needs to evaluate every inch of these roads and do something to mitigate the danger. They could do something about this but they have done nothing. They would rather have a few people killed than affect the scenery. There are many options for erosion control, like put up mesh to stop the smaller rocks, or take some sort of preventive measures to stop the larger rocks from falling.
That shit is worth a dollar a pound. Could have funded the state for a whole 2 minutes. Whatva waste. As per stating the rock could only be moved by blasting it. Thats a slap in the face of all the Chinese who build the railroad a few miles north a hundred and 160 years ago. Then boys did it with muscle.
Stephen Ambrose had a great book on the transcontinental railroad. Chinese laborers did indeed dig and blast seven tunnels in the Sierra Nevada using nitroglycerin and black powder. Foremen praised how hard the Chinese could work. Dynamite itself was invented in 1867 in the middle of the construction of the transcontinental rr line.
@@CyPhi68 Nitroglycerin... I could not remember the name for the life of me. I could see it sweating out of the dynamite, but damned if I could remember what it was called. I must be getting old. LOL.
This news station should be applauded for putting the footage of the demolition in the first 6 seconds of the video.
Never take the mountain for granite.
Really good! Thank you!
Now that's a good one. Much granite in the Sierra-Nevadas.
I c wut u did there.
You're slated for greatness.

Man this producer really wanted to show the blast.
And we thank them for that!
The producer did the right thing.

So happy to see my home state is getting rain and snow but I know from past years these kind of situations have gotten worse

It was a small boulder the size of a giant boulder.

That demo was cool.
Uh oh the roads looks a little damp... CHAIN LAWS IN EFFECT
That’s one way to get your rocks off…
Wow that did not take them long to get to work on. Here it would have taken weeks before they started working on it.

Takes 2 government workers to manage a hand drill...
LOL I was literally thinking of you when I saw that. I'm like I know a bloke who's daughter could run that drill solo.
Damn that's cool
That looks so good

I would have given a whole $1.00 if they would have delivered it.😵
I don't think it would fit in your pipe tho
If anyone here has ever stepped on a grape. They know what would happen if that thing had landed on someone lol.
That could have been bad

If you pushed it on down the hill, how do you steer it between the homes and businesses down there?
