Vayechi - “And He Lived” Genesis 47:28-50:26 Before his death, Jacob pronounces blessings over all his sons. As a final request, Jacob asks his son Joseph to take his body back to the promised land to bury him there. Jacob proceeds to bless the two Egyptian sons of Joseph. Though born in Egypt, they carry the DNA of their forefathers. Thus Jacob proclaims they are sons of Israel. A unique situation aris-es: Jacob literally adopts the two sons of Joseph as though they are his own. Jacob blesses Ma-nasseh and Ephraim, but does something unexpected: he crosses his arms and gives the firstborn blessing to Ephraim, the youngest. Joseph soon realises what his father has done and attempts to correct the first-born blessing to Manasseh. Jacob does not relent and insists, by almost a divine prophecy, that Ephraim is the most blessed son and the younger will rule over the older. Jacob then blesses his remaining sons before he dies. His body is then taken by a large caravan of people to the promised land where he is buried in a cave. Joseph then dies in Egypt at the age of 110. He too instructs that his bones are to be taken out of Egypt and buried in the Holy Land, but this would not come to pass until the Israelites leave Egypt in the Exodus many years later. Though we see the death of Jacob and Joseph, the focus is not on their deaths, but the life they lived and will live: the life for their future linage, all the way to the last days. Today’s reading cast a future shadow on what is to come and hints to the living King that we serve: The Word made flesh who dwelt among us; who conquered the grave and lived on after being put to death. He is ultimately the one who lived. Though faced with death, a true delight awaits for all those that partake in the covenant. ******* *More Information* Want to learn more? *Note* We have been made aware that the Hebrew on-screen at 1:17 incorrectly reads 'Vayigash', rather than 'Vayechi'. We apologise for the error, however ask for a little grace and patience at this time, as our editor has become a first-time father in the past week and is dealing with his change in roles, meaning that some minor oversights such as this one may be possible at the moment, however we will do our best to ensure that all information presented is correct.
Amazing as always. In Ezekiel, David most likely means David based on the following text. Why would sinless Yeshua need a sin offering for Himself? Ezekiel 45:22 And upon that day shall the prince prepare for himself and for all the people of the land a bullock for a sin offering. The prince has a physical possession of land outside the city beyond the holy place (Ezekiel 48:21-22). He also has physical sons (Ezekiel 46:16-18). I am not sure any of these are consistent with Yeshua being the prince.
It probably seems unimportant except we are speaking of the eternal words of scripture. I encourage everyone to study the Hebrew language. Not only does studying Hebrew make you feel happy, it allows you to check if teachers are using it accurately. We need to be able to do that... all of us.
Thank you for pointing that out, we endeavor to ensure that our information is as accurate as possible, however unfortunately mistakes can happen. Our editor became a father for the first time earlier this week, so we would like to ask for some grace and patience while he learns how to balance his new important roles with his existing ones!

Nonsense. The entire point/mission of Joseph was to be HONEST in managing treasury. Ancient Egypt was already very prosperous before and after he and the Israelites came. Saying that he and the Israelits changed the course of history is not factual.

At 1:19 the Hebrew lettering says “vayigash” ויגש. The English lettering says “Vayechi”
