I'm guessing these guys were Authoritarian/Militarist/Xenophiles who were invading pre-ftls way too often based on what's presented. If accurate, it's a fascinating combination. I use these ethics when I wanna go for Galactic Emperor. Nice video!
This basically confirms the possibility of the psychic hivemind. I guess the hope never dies. This precursor is probably the most grim yet, which is the achievement given the completion. Thank you for the video. Edit: If you're psionic, the scientists at the naval graveyard also hear the psychic scream of the corpse
Yes, I thought about using the psionic options but felt not knowing what was coming made for a better story. Psionics as usual get the best stuff though :)
Organic hiveminds are evolved from eusocial animals with psychic queens. We know this cuz only psychic empires can talk with scourge which organic hiveminds also can So they are already a thing
After all that, I wasn't expecting you to take the evil option. This whole scenario kind of reminds me of the Dead Money DLC from Fallout New Vegas. With how the dead cry out to be freed but are inexorably pulled back into service for one madman or another.
@@TheRedKing That is a common justification I'm afraid :D -- but many precursors could have gone down dark paths like this. The last of the Baol kept alive and forced to proliferate again, the last Zroni trapped in a crystal dispensing prophesies, the last Cybrex machine spirit churning out alloys and regrets in equal measure. Though the Astral relics tended to have some dark edge or ... no, that gear we stole from an extradimensional timepiece probably didn't do anything that important!
@acadiano10 But I like to go 40K with this human Tau it's for the greater good besides, imagine, if all of this was combined into a one supermassive Galaxy. You get the context of how all these powerful Empire's grow and how strong they were only to be wiped out by themselves each other or by some unknown threat. Honestly, I would want these powerful relics. NO MATTER THE COST HUMANITY WILL RISE!!!!!!
One of rare situation, when weapon is not worth moral guilt given. And really, that nexus storm launched against crisis empire would save so many lifes. Again, Stellaris asked me question, does the end justifies the means
Enslaving the tortured souls of ancient aliens and whatever poor scientist you stick into the machine, to summon a storm into a single system. Classic Stellaris. That said, I am reminded of the Traders and their story. The more you harnessed the storms, the stronger and more uncontrollable they got. It's something that will likely turn against you in the future. But that's a problem for the future empire.
I was under impression that Adakkaria actually believed in what they were claiming, zealously, that it was their manifest destiny to enlighten Galaxy and stuff. Very zealously. So zealously that for them end justified any means. And the longer they were striving against Unicom, the more diabolical the means became. Untill they lost any morality altogether and were consumed by storm.
I love this so much. These guys had so much as love for themselves. They thought themselves so righteous. They decided to do warframe with forty k psychic kids , but instead of putting them inside individual machines, they instead cram them all into a system spanning AM with psychic powers how did nobody think this would go wrong.
While everyone is discussing the morality of the race, I want to point out something else about the broadcasts. That is, it touches on what would happen if a species (like ours) suddenly developed the psionic ability to read/know the thoughts of another. Could you imagine the social upheaval? A wife can suddenly know everything her husband knows, can see his memories as clear as her own. A friend could know everything his friends think of him, or his coworkers. And there is nothing they can do to stop it, or deceive him. Damn, you just know it would be cataclysmic. All the deepest secrets, just out there for anyone to see and know. You don’t think the people without psionic ability would try to end those that do? Would the psionic people see themselves as above everyone else, and become cruel and prideful? It’s an interesting thought experiment.
I choose to free them (as I was playing as a pacifist spiritualist) as a result you get their home world and can terraform it into a Gaia world. You also get a special building on the world.
The strangeness and distance and patchwork information somehow makes this feel weirdly... SCP. The lowkey spooky background music probably contributes, too.
@TheRedKing I would have to disagree on it. Think about Rome. They were considering themselves good guys for bringing civilization to the barbarian hordes around them, allowing them to be Roman. It's kind of like what they're doing here because they see all other species as struggling and inferior the differences. Romans did it for militarism Because every other country was a threat to Rome since they were realistic. They weren't that great.. They do it for false pity. They now have the power to read minds and "True intentions where everybody else doesn't." And seeks to save them from death of the whole species and then just like how Rome turned from. We have to protect our country to we're gonna burn your city down. Cause you can't move it 20 feet. They turned from. I want to protect these species because they're barbarians. And they do not know better to only we can be in power and we're going to destroy everybodyelse with our power over physics. Or if a twelve-year-old child, all the sudden got the powers of a God. You wouldn't see the child being all. Oh, I'm God. You'd see the child trying to do their best to fix the world only to turn evil when they realize human nature is just bad.
These guys locked up their kids and used them as batteries to generate cosmic storms... thats a hard sell for "good intentions" but i take your wider point :)
@@randomguy8415That's a rather pessimistic view of people, I believe there is good in us all, somewhere inside us. Just because someone is different is more capable or different from us does not warrant human experimentation and torture to *children*, or any kind of stigmatisation. And here it was done only for power, the desire to safeguard the people themselves was not the primary objective. There comes no good from that is born of evil, the people and empire are right to be cautious, this can be dangerous, but there is a line that should not be crossed. I'm sure that there must have been some scientists or people that tried to help and free these children and failed, but just because good doesn't succeed doesn't mean it does not exist.
@TheRedKing So, we have the origin that has our empire supported by an "unknown Benefactor." Then, with the adAkkaria precursors, they refer to their "Benefactors," also with a capital 'B.' Are these the same Benefactors, and do we have any information about these Benefactors. I believe we know more about the Shroud Gods than the Benefactors.
We know who they are if you're referring to the shoulders of giants benefactors. Good point though , maybe they are the same. Maybe worth exploring further

Breath taking twist. On the one hand, I am shocked by what they did. But, perhaps I am far too human and far too Christian. Fictional though they may be, I pray those souls get the rest and respite they deserve
Perhaps we should find a way to make their existence as our weapon less miserable- Obviously all is for the supremacy of the commonwealth, yet I can't shake the guilt
