I enjoy your 'working it out' banter... So much talent and each one of you respects the others opinion. Nice! I wish our politicians could work together like you two :) Thanks
Personally. . .The design looks perfect with the black above and below the valve. The marble listello will look fine ending and resuming on the other side. Of course, this is all completed by now, but thought I would just throw that in. .. on to the next episode!!
I’m so glad that you let us behind the scenes!!! I’m happy that regular Joe and Jane could see what goes into a REAL design process, not Uncle Bernie’s glum jobs! Way too many of those out there!
I have to laugh as myself for this. I’m trying to figure out all the ways I can approach redoing my desperately in need two unit - discovered Sarah on TH-cam and I’ve been watching everything she has because I love her work. And in the middle of her conversation with Tommy, I realized that this was filmed at the same time she was going over her choices for both her daughter’s bedroom redo on the island because I recognized the fabric samples on the table. Maybe it’s time to get away from the iPad…
Gonna say too challenging to have a listello go through water valve trim area (and I love a challenge). He (assuming he) 'could' have the trim piece on hand and have listello die right into edge of trim (no return, not necessary as this is a through color piece) and place field tile under/inside where trim piece will be as sort of a 'place holder'. Only the best tile person you trust can pull this off. Otherwise, just move the listello above the water valve trim piece. Not sure what this does to lining up with backsplash. But I get it, I had a horizontal border perfectly align with top of vanity as my backsplash -- it was a challenge but it looked great!
I'm wondering how the vertical transition from shower surround tile to non-tiled wall is going to look with all these differing tile types, I'm imagining a simple metal L trim to make sure the tile dies on a nice finished edge. It's good that the listello is continuous around the room, since that is the tile that is proud of the main tile surface, and serves as a natural boundary, but I wonder if the reveal on the non-tiled wall surface is going to look too deep compared to the shower surround. What is the wall surface going to be like?
Siansonea Orande I *think* the marble listtello is going all around the bathroom. So the white tile should be on all the walls and the listello will be the cap tile and will need no metal trim. (I got this from Sarah saying the soldier course would be the splashback above the sink). Above that in the tub section to drywall section, that might be where they would need the metal. I don’t like metal so I usually end with tile that has a soft bullnose and it comes in many colours.
@@dogzzz2002 I'm not talking about the horizontal transition above the listello when I'm talking about the metal, I'm talking about the vertical transition from the shower area, that is tiled above the listello, to the walls everywhere else, that aren't tiled above the listello. That's where I think they might put some kind of metal piece, so you don't see the raw edges of the tile in that area.
Just curious as to why they didn't have a computer CAD/rendering application in which to lay out the tiles to see how they'd look in more "real time" than just drawing it out? 🤔
Oh i get it, two rows of the bullnose and one row of thick black tile? Yes, I think i might prefer that too, but can’t visualize anything without it being laid out for me.
I don’t understand their visual explaining how the bullnose thin marble tile will be “returned” to meet the shower control valve. Why would you make those cuts just to make the tile end up with a 90 degree end edge again?
Jeff Lewis i can not. I always wondered how they picked the patterns that went into these rooms, and layed them out optimally. I imagined they’d have a 3-d modelling software program, but nope! It’s just Sarah’s brain.
I love Tommy!
Yes more of Sarah and Tommy. I’m here for it.
I always learn so much from you and Tommy - you both are GENIUS! Can. Not. Wait. For the reveal (but apparently have to!)
Don't worry, it's coming!!
What a cliff hanger! I can't wait to see how that tile turns out. From glum to glam!
Stay tuned for more!! :)
I love how you two work together seamlessly.

I hate those metal L trims😛
I wonder how it might look with only one soldier course and a black bullnose...

some us us just work better with the feel of pen and paper - like reading a book instead of a kindle!
I would consider switching the grey with the black - two rows of grey and one row of black.
Is there any grey? I just saw black and white.
j bre The marble cap appears grey and white to me like the grey marble in the floor tile.
Oh i get it, two rows of the bullnose and one row of thick black tile? Yes, I think i might prefer that too, but can’t visualize anything without it being laid out for me.

With a return, the finished edge will be the smooth tile face, instead of a sharp cut surface.
I would rather only do one soldier row, not two, in the shower. Otherwise I like it.
Busy for small bathroom
Keep it 2 patterns
um lets see it.. my lord.. not a big fan of the social commentary.
No finished bathroom? Waste of time. Thanks, but I can play with tiles without having to watch a 10 minute video of designer bantering.
