Hildebrand is probably Wargaming take on a real german design called Flugdeckkreuzer There were a couple of iterations of the design related to the development of plan Z, but they had different armament from hildebrand, but the concept was basically identical. If anybody has more information on this, feel free to add to it or correct me
Armament is actually pretty consistent with the larger designs, except for the casemate secondarys, they just took an Ägir? hull instead of the specially desgned one the flugdeckkreuzers would have had.
@@Lupus_Indomitus Exactly, they based it on the Agir basically, the thing about the armament is that the actual designs would have used the 28cm turrets like Deutschland class or Scharnhorst had, not 305, those are as fictional as the Agir😂
@@Lollo-4343 ah, ok. But they are similar enough, that i can live with it. Also, just from looking at a design, i honestly cant really tell if its the 305mm or the 283mm turrets on those designs, so ill just gonna take your reply for granted.
@Lupus_Indomitus Yeah, at least from the sources I found, the guns should be the 283. Also, I think the 305 modeled in game is not actually an existing gun, probably only a paper project as well
@@Lollo-4343 I think the high-tier German 305mm guns in game are based off a proposal for the main battery of the later variations on the Deutschland class 'pocket battleships'. (Said 'later variations' are in game as the Schill.) I'm not certain this is the case though, and even then, the quad 305mm guns on the Mecklenburg are most likely entirely fictional - the real design was, I believe, for a triple turret and not a quad.
One of the scary aspects of the Okhotnik is that the gun crews are 'protected' by having longer range weapons than machine guns and as little as possible to impede shellfire, as it crosses the deck, while being fast enough to stay out of range of enemy machine guns. Variable timed fuses would have quickly painted the deck with blood. The Russian 5.1" (130 mm) guns of the Okhotnik are very much like the UK 4.7" (120 mm) DD guns, in that the AP will make very short work of many cruisers that giver her their broadside. The Okhotnik is an anti-Atlanta. The Atlanta is a "DD with a citadel" and the Okhotnik is nearly a "cruiser with no citadel". The Okhotnik is comparable to a squishier Krasny Krym that cannot be citadelled.
8:09 wing turrets do not effect stability, and weight of broadside 'how many guns you can bring to bare out of your full armament' was definitely a thing. Drach did a excellent battle of Jutland video that explains all that.
The Hector is representative of a design for an enlarged Dido class, where they use a Town class hull as the base and stick a bunch of lightning/dido turrets on it. It was intended as an AA cruiser, just like the Atlanta
Being a CV player when Kearsarge came out i got her and enjoyed watching my rocket planes attack enemy ships from the deck of my ship (an unusual gameplay perspective). After hearing from fellow players how ugly she was, those soon faded as my scores became higher. I learned she was best played at midrange on average. She had no protection from subs when she first came out, so i parked her until WG fixed it. Learning to time your main battery and plane launches will maximize your score.
Michelangelo is not that weird, right? There also Friesland, the very first pure gunboat DD, and there is another but almost-pure gunboat DD, the Forrest Sherman. And when it comes to outright weird, you can't miss the Dutch tech tree which are hybrid CA/CVs without flight deck.
The Hector is, I believe, based on a real design (one of the K-25 studies, part of the design process for the Crown Colony class light cruisers) which did actually have that turret arrangement. The ingame description says it's based off of a Belfast hull, but I'm not certain that's actually the case. I believe firing angles towards the bow was one consideration in having the weird turret arrangement forward. And the guns are 133mm (or 5.25 inch) like those on the Dido-class, or the secondary battery of the KGVs, not Daring guns (4.5 inch/114mm guns).
I guess the Hildebrand is similar to the Tone, if the Tone's planes reloaded every minute instead of it's ridiculous three minutes. This really hurts the ship at the start of a match as you can't spot early. Maybe someday WG will buff the Tone, but I will not hold my breath. The CA and DD hybrids are hampered by the ships needing to play closer so loosing situational awareness while flying can have bad results. Wasn't WG going to nerf aircraft spotting?
Hildi needs to be moved to the CV slot or counted as a CV in game. Still waiting for a super Mainz at tier 10. Agir hull with the guns Mainz was supposed to get IRL?
Hector is one of my favourite ships, sure the guns sometimes struggle to pen because they're not Daring turrets, they're Dido turrets, but firing that many little HE rounds with a decent fire chance is good to have, especially in supporting DD fights with the creeping smoke. One of the sneaky big advantages she has that a lot of people don't realize is she has really good torps that can comfortably be fired from stealth even outside of the smoke screen. I've caught so many people with them. She's really good in platoon with a good DD player as well.
I guess Hector is a Dido meets Flint. But the Dido class had much less tonnage than the Atlantas. (5,600 tons vs 6,593 tons.) Not to mention the gun shortage that made it difficult to give the Didos their proper armament. Que private rant: it seems WG when making a historically popular ship that players want seems to not worry as much about making them perform all that well. (but that may also play into WG's reluctance to build ships with good, in the game, AA.)
@@Iamdarthplague This was before the cold war when American firms were actually helping the Soviets with the design of the 16 inch guns they were putting on the Sovetskiy Soyuz class (which iirc were suspiciously similar to those of the North Carolina), so go figure. Like a few suggestions before me; SL, you STILL need an Honorable Mentions (2 or 3 Ships) that don't quite make your lists. The TROMP comes to mind for your list. I am still in a quandary on the German CV planes used by their CV and now the HILDEBRANT. The Ta-152s were designed and manufactured to replace the Fw-190s; not exactly designed to carry torps.
Question for fellow WoWs players. For years I have used an MPOW EG3 headphones and mic set, which sounded great but now after 5 years I've lost the sound on the right side. Don't want to go back to MPOW as they fell into some shady practices. I've tried $40-140 (even Hyperx Alpha) wireless headphones which were "ok" but WoWs in particular sounded over- bassed and "washed out" (pardon the pun). And the eq software doesn't work for any of the sets I tried. I've ordered a Razer Kraken V3 with usb, hoping that going back to wired will help. What headphones do others in the WoWs community use? --Thanks!
no high tier DD can turn the table on the enemy when every MM give 2, 3 even 4 Radar per side and add on top SS and CV , so the point of having the big guns on DD trying to gun down the enemy at range that the AP actually work , well , most of the time the DD simply will not got any chance to get close enough , of course one can do the Italian suicidal charge but then the problem is the torp usually are not good enough to one salvo the enemy and its more likely the suicidal charge will turn into suicide
I was in a game yesterday in which we faced the Hildebrand and some other crazy hybrid. And our side? NO planes at all. Yeah, how is that for matchmaking.... and... we got wrecked! I swear it was like facing two CV without any CV on our team. I never saw so many damn planes.

The DM with its 203s pens less at 34mm, to guve perspective.
@somersthesunless1874 kleber also isn't that impressive without MBRB. Elbing has 6th lowest fires per min and the lowest HE DPM. By comparison kleber has 9th lowest and 5th worst
You also have to factor in the accuracy becuase you are landing a much higher percentage of shells. It had the same fires per minute as Zao and would you say that Zao isn’t a good fire starter? There are other ships that thoeretically are capable of much higher fires per minute than a Zao, but most of them are not planting the same number of shells in the same spot. Not to mention the Elbing has almost identical shell balistics to the Zao with nearly twice the accuracy.
