Studio One continues to come up with so many clever and simple solutions to everyday problems. I couldn't be happier with v5 and Joe, your videos are fantastic!
I'm encouraged about it because it's becoming a one-stop-shop smooth workflow in Studio One. I have all the top DAW except Apple Logic, I'm a PC operator. I appreciate Sphere collaboration.
Fantastic! I could have used this earlier today! You'd wince at my clunky work flow, but I can already see it tightening up. These episodes are so valuable for me as a returning (away from audio for about six years) and motivated beginner. I know there is an active debate about whether PreSonus ought to cater to the heavy pros and let the two-mic guys like me figure it out on our own. I'll just say I am very grateful you've taken the time to put these up here. Thanks.
I watched your Studio One Q&A. When I come across the clip gain envelope I was intrigued. I used it today with good results. However, when I did it I thought I was doing volume automation because it looks exactly the same and not how you showed in the video. This video made more sense to me Thank you Joe!
Is there a way to delete multiple points please? I try to select the points by holding shift key, and then when I hit delete, it will delete the whole event. Thank you.
Please explain deeply show page feature. How to prepare the track right from the beginning till end and how to play or perform that for a gig ( set list as well ). Like live artist do on Korg Kronos, Yamaha Montage, Roland Fantom, Korg Pa4x or Yamaha Genos etc. I saw all show page videos, but they are not clear that to perform live with it.
Great video, Joe. Love Gain Envelopes. However, it's been my experience that they don't work in tandem with Melodyne. It'll require that you render in place your Melodyne-treated vocal before you can use Clip Gain Envelopes.
Ahhhhh, so glad S1 has this. Pro Tools has the clip gain line, this is the same, but then combined with the clip editing window, PT is just falling hard to the wayside. The only thing I've found missing from S1 is the ability to mixdown a WAV and mp3 simultaneously. NBD tho.
Very nice to see that S1 can do that, as that was one amazing feature re clip gain and PT, just the quick highlight and grab up or down. I still don't think Cubase or Logic can do it like this.
That was really cool what you did with that loop. A couple quick questions...where did that loop come from? I've been looking for some like it? Aside from the cool trick of then being able to effect 1 loop and copy it that way, what is the advantage to doing Clip Gain adjustments vs. just normal Volume automation which is how I've always done things like that?
Thanks Joe really helpful info as usual. I do have a question, I do all my Midi in my Motif XS8. Just my preference, all the sounds work for me. Why will Studio One not let me use it as a DAW or Midi controller. I'm new to the CPU studios lol. I ask because I see a MO8 looks like beside you. Thanks
pardon my language but nothing else is gunna come close to my excitement FUCK YES! I make drum and bass and editing is a big part of the process of curation and this made my life heaven... absolute heaven
Hey, thanks for video. What about “freehand” on clip gain envelopes as well as snap to zero crossing? Should we care abt it and how does it work, any clicks and crackles occure during clip gain automating? Btw, reqesting “pitch bend” option for audio for years now, still nothing..((( really wishing for that envelope to adjust dynamic pitch movement, or speeding up etc any creative pitch manipulations and sound design...
I love clip gain. However, I have found that once an audio track is sliced up (for whatever reason, perhaps before clip gain was available) then doing clip gain seems to be a hit or miss affair. Wazzup wit dat?
Nice...VERY nice. This will be super for reigning in uneven bass guitar tracks (and many other things, as illustrated). Naturally, one should listen to a track, start to finish, and THEN go to town with this tool. In other words, while we shouldn't mix with our eyes, it's now easier to PARTLY mix with eyes. Makes sense?
Hi, Presonus, it seems that when the clip has a Melodyne ARA on, the clip gain curve does not work. What is expected is the content in the melodyne will be updated after the clip gain is adjusted.
Dear Jo, better to implement that Clip gain im the vocal workflow after doing the gain staging, and before starting with vocal editing, right? Thx a lot in advance😊
But how do I copy those things from one track to another? Select the points and copy, copies the file with gain envelope, not just the gain envelope to be pasted on another file.
Anyone having issues with clip gain? The session I was mixing and had a few tracks with clip gain automation started to get slow and I couldn't scroll effectively. Ended up rendering all tracks withs clip gain and session went back to normal.
What if you duplicate this event a bunch of times and you want to create an effect just on one of them? As it is now, it's not possible, you'd have to bounce the events you want to modify, or those that you don't want to modify (which are the fewest).
Is there a way to have the mixer fader work as a pre fader. Like before the plugins on that channel? I do know of input controls, but i don't use them as i can't automate it. AM i stuck using mix tools at the top of each channel mixer as a pre fader?
Does the new clip gain cancel the old clip gain...or now I will have two kinda clip gains. One main region clip gain and the new clip gain. Or as soon as you start the clip gain you cancel the old model. My question, would they both exist followed by each other, or we get one or the other ?
I remember the days when Presonus said "You´ll never have to pay for an update" I´ve been using Studio One since version 2 but since I can´t spend 150 bucks I guess I´ll have to stay in 4.6. Thanks
From watching the reviews on SO5 I don’t really see a good reason to upgrade, and some people were saying that they felt robbed after buying the $150 upgrade. Hopefully SO6 will be worth it in the future.
Hi Joe, thanks for your awesome tutorials. There's one thing though, if your using the gain envelopes on let's say vocals, then you'd have to do it before you're going to edit within Melodyne, because if you already edited the vocal events in Melodyne, then the gain envelope option is gone. Also, I've noticed that if you have layers on a vocal track, then you have to comp first and then merge it into one event and even copy paste that new event into a new track, because otherwise Melodyne goes crazy and detects polyphonic and you'll hear double vocals from left over vocal takes / layers. So that's really annoying, is there any solution for this? Or is the only way to comp one event out of the layers and copy paste it to a new track all together? Thanks for your help!
Joe, if i drag a favorite song into studio one,(mp3) what is fastest , most accurate way to determine the tempo? Besides tapping on the "tempo" with my mouse, which i find to be quite inaccurate.
@Vocal Gravy Yeah, I'm Old School I guess. I grew up listening to music like Genesis Trick Of The Tail and Journey "Look in the future". Unfortunately, our ears get used to hearing things the modern way where you don't have to reach over and turn up or down the volume in the car. Blessings!
And there it is. I totally missed this video. Wish i would seen two weeks ago. What a useful tool this will be for me!

Thanks Joe! And thanks to Presonus for making these wonderful tools affordable for those who make music for fun and not for a living.

This is flipping amazing! Didn't know I was looking for this solution, but it's exactly what I need to get better control over my levels.😀
No kidding no more going for drives to listen to Mixdowns lol
Great! Now everyone go to answers.presonus and upvote the requests for Project page clip gain and automation and fades!
Thank you, Joe! I was just messing with this trying to understand which volume was coming before which.
Is there a way to delete multiple points please? I try to select the points by holding shift key, and then when I hit delete, it will delete the whole event. Thank you.
The best new feature in Studio One v5. Very nice.
THANK F ING GOD
Studio One 5 seriously coming through with this switch from PT

Outstanding!!!! My mixes will now take a bit longer, but they will be way f'n cleaner!

Does it still work if you play with the volume? What was your work around?
spent about an hour with no good result working on a click pop in a vocal track.
This is going to be a great tool, thank you!
Real cool insights there on the Clip Gain. Thank you

As always, a Very useful turorial. Thank you Joe.
Thanks Joe this really helped!
This is a very useful tool I wasn't aware of.
Hello! When will the trial version be available?
pardon my language but nothing else is gunna come close to my excitement
FUCK YES! I make drum and bass and editing is a big part of the process of curation and this made my life heaven... absolute heaven
1:09 - but you can merge them?

Excellent tutorial Joe!! Very useful, cheers.
Would be nice to have a pitch envelopes for audio clips some day as well

Latency compensated?
hi Joe this tutorial was useful, however it doesn't work on my final vocal layer 😭😭, but it does on individual layers 🥺, what do I have to do?
This is legitimately useful
Joe even with cursed follows selection turned off,it still follows the selection. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
Hi, Presonus, it seems that when the clip has a Melodyne ARA on, the clip gain curve does not work. What is expected is the content in the melodyne will be updated after the clip gain is adjusted.
after adjusting Clip Gain, when I do pitch correction in Melodyne, the Clip gain adjustments are gone...... WHAT AM I MISSING>.... Please help
After the duplication, is it possible to individually adjust each clip without it being copied to the other clips, without bouncing the track?
When I decrease the volume to lowest point it still make a sound, not muted completely!
Is there any solution?
Wow thanks Joe
That's one of the Cubase features I really want. Now if there was a way to change the ppq from 100 to something sane, like 120 ...
Great video! So helpful!!
Is it possible to assign it to a keyboard shortcut?
Dear Jo, better to implement that Clip gain im the vocal workflow after doing the gain staging, and before starting with vocal editing, right? Thx a lot in advance😊
It's up to you
When I choose the section to adjust the gain, it affects the entire rest of the file, not just the region by selected.
But how do I copy those things from one track to another? Select the points and copy, copies the file with gain envelope, not just the gain envelope to be pasted on another file.
Awesome new feature! Thanks so much.
Pure gold buddy!
Amazing! Thank you.

Somebody get joe a damn ceo spot 👏🏾

The new clip gain envelope is new. You can use either/or or both. - Joe Gilder
Amazing 🔥🔥
Excellent!
Thanks
✔✔✔✔✔
What about segment curves?
Great feature, great video.
Excellent tips... thanks
can you put vocalrider on clipgain envelops?
i know it is a plugin but is there a way for?
I remember the days when Presonus said "You´ll never have to pay for an update" I´ve been using Studio One since version 2 but since I can´t spend 150 bucks I guess I´ll have to stay in 4.6. Thanks

Did you ever get that sorted out?
Will those clip adjustments remain if i bounce them and save the stems?
No, if you bounce them then the adjustments are "printed" to the bounced track, just like anything else you bounce. - Joe Gilder
PreSonus Audio Electronics copy that, thank you!
Cool beans, thanks 😊
Joe, if i drag a favorite song into studio one,(mp3) what is fastest , most accurate way to determine the tempo? Besides tapping on the "tempo" with my mouse, which i find to be quite inaccurate.
My iPhone has a Metronome app. I just dial it in as the song plays. Very accurate, and free.
thank you thank you thank you thank you
this is next level shit, a mixers wet dream lol, the results you can achieve with this
Is this feature Pro only?
He's a Presonus employee!!! He OBVIOUSLY uses professional!!!!
Team Myre .......that was‘nt his question...🙄
I have Artist 5 and it's there, just as shown in this video.
Pity they cant pull volume to neg infinity. Great feature tho.
This will probably be the feature that makes me upgrade to 5.
Good stuff!
Great!!!
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Presonus got this right for sure.
Yes!!!
Please. Put. Gain. Envelope. In . the . Project . page.
Pease Joe, it's PREsonus not PERsonus
3:11 that i'm clipping on :))
One day, the really long intros will not be in style anymore.
What ever happened to dynamics? We lose the emotion in music by leveling everything. Don't you think?
@Vocal Gravy Yeah, I'm Old School I guess. I grew up listening to music like Genesis Trick Of The Tail and Journey "Look in the future".
Unfortunately, our ears get used to hearing things the modern way where you don't have to reach over and turn up or down the volume in the car. Blessings!
Great tool. No the gain envelope silly.
Normally your videos don't have this problem but the audio and video synch is horri-bad.
i had no problems with av-sync at all while watching this video...
