Well if it broke after you reached the level, otherwise you can't open doors without constant forward acceleration.

@@Cosmalano Following a certain path while only being able to go straight forward requires a lot of precise angle calculations. Basically every move has to be caclulated with pixel percision in order for this to work
@@Cosmalano More than what youfreaker said, it's exploring the consequences that follow from a limited set of well defined operations. In this case, he's composing these operations into larger, more practical operations, eventually accomplishing an objective.

how you manage to do these is beyond my comprehension and i’ve been watching you since 2012
It's called a TAS, or Tool-Assisted Speedrun. It can do an input frame by frame, for optimal results. It'd be cool if pancake boi could do this himself tho
@@boomko1253 OP probably knows it's a TAS(otherwise, after watching for 7yrs that'd be a miracle if they *didn't*), it's likely they were talking about how pannen manages to find a way to actually pull this stuff off

@@hector-m-carrillo You can't grab anything in Bowser 1 (except Bowser of course). In fact, even if the main area was somehow still loaded in the Bowser fight, Bowser always appears in front of Mario. It is also currently impossible to bring anything into a level, and impossible to make objects change what they are, except a few edge cases with bombs.
Although maybe some extremely precise divegrinding and ledge grabs could get it in time...
I keep on wondering how the joystick input would look like

It's been a thing for a long while, Pannen just hasn't done anything new regarding No Joystick runs for a few years.

Probably not because you can't open doors usually, and so you can't do a lot of castle movement

Absolutely fantastic! I love all the creativity in this route. It's also so different from A-Button-Routes that it's pretty fresh. Like a big puzzle consisting of many small puzzles. Great job.

Everybody's commenting on the absurdity of the video's premise or the Bowser grab at the end, but what caught my attention was the punch which seemed to make Mario lock from one moving platform onto a different one at 4:09
Was that because Mario's punch direction lined up with the new platform better than the one he was already riding? Does it have to do with momentum? If this has been explained before, I'd be grateful to the person who points me to the explanation.
Punching moves you forward slightly, Mario's angle was such that the punch just moved him from one platform to the other.
This was beautiful, the suspense when you entered the Bowser fight was real. Congrats on this. You should upload this with commentary in the future.

I hope you make commentated videos again soon so I can listen to your exellent explanations of game mechanics while playing other games! I really enjoyed your Watch for falling rocks video, yes it was funny but also unironically awesome.

I was firmly convinced you'd stop the video as soon as you got into that pipe, because I honestly couldn't imagine just how you'd beat Bowser without swinging him around, but you really have done it! I couldn't help but burst out laughing when you suddenly appeared behind him blew him up! XD This is pretty much how that scene played out in my head:

Oo I would have thought of that too with him ending the video as soon as he got to the pipe... but then I saw about 45 seconds were left of the video and thought "No... he's not going to...". And sure enough... he even freaking beat Bowser without any joystick input. I couldn't help bursting out from laughter too. XDDDD That was SO AMAZING!

Every single one of those backflip-to-ground-pound-fence-clip makes me flinch like I'm watching a jumpscare compilation
I have to say these are way more entertaining than the A button challenges. Plus it's stuff you could even try yourself as I have a N64 controller with a broken off thumbstick laying around and it doesn't require 12 hours of speed building.
The backflipping bits remind me of that one nosleep story about the park ranger and the staircases because one of the last stories he shared was about seeing a mysterious shadow figure repeatedly and aggressively backflipping towards him. Now I’m thinking about being in the woods at night and encountering that exact thing, but it’s making mario’s “yaHOOO” sounds lol

Alright so this entire thing was already really impressive, but I did not expected the fight to be possible too. Amazing.
On this episode of pancake man does the thing, pancake man picks up his broken N64 Controller without a joystick, but gets inspired. He slowly backflips, jumps, punches, and yahoo's all the way to browser. He then takes it upon himself to beat the fight the devs intended to use the joystick WITHOUT said joystick.
You should win the Nobel Peace Prize for capturing our attention so consistently that we can't possibly leave mean youtube comments elsewhere. You have stopped thousands of flamewars, without a doubt.
