- After their plan to kill Gus fails, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) must act fast if they are to avoid being killed in revenge. So as Jesse struggles to keep from being implicated in the poisoning of his girlfriend’s son, Walt hatches a desperate scheme that depends on the one person who hates Gus more than anyone else alive.

Season Four - Episode Thirteen: "Face Off"
Episode Description:
As Jesse faces police scrutiny for his comments to Andrea, Walt desperately plots to gain the upper-hand within his season-long game of wits with meth kingpin Gus.
Episode Overview:
As Walt tracks him down in the hospital waiting room to ask how their plan to kill Gus could have gone awry, Jesse is surprised when two detectives arrive to ask about the poison that is threatening the life of Andrea’s son Brock. Leaving Jesse to talk his way out of the sticky situation, Walt heads to Saul’s office where he finds his secretary Francesca frantically shredding anything that could link her boss to the drug ring. With Francesca demanding money in exchange for contacting Saul, Walt then heads home where he finds a pair of Gus’ hit men waiting. After using an elderly neighbor to distract them, he sneaks inside and recovers some cash from the crawl space hiding spot. Meanwhile, after calling Saul to intervene in the interrogation, Jesse decides to use what he knows about the feud with Tio Salamanca to draw Gus into a trap.
Because he hates Gus even more than he does Walt or Jesse, Tio agrees to help. Though the old man actually refuses say anything of value to the DEA, all Walt needs is for Gus to know that a meeting has taken place between Tio and Hank. So, unaware of what Walt has in store for him, Gus sends a henchman to make sure that Tio’s nursing home room isn’t under surveillance. Meanwhile, after learning that Brock is going to make it, Jesse is surprised to find that he’s been cleared of any suspicion in the poisoning. But before he can get back to the hospital room with the good news, he’s kidnapped by Gus’ thug and taken back to the lab where he’s forced continue working.
Once he’s been assured that the coast is clear, Gus heads inside the nursing home with plans to kill Tio. But before Gus and his sidekick can give him a lethal injection, Tio triggers a bomb that Walt rigged to his wheelchair, blowing the three of them to kingdom come. With Gus out of the way, all that’s left for Walt to do is destroy the superlab. Making his way inside, he dispatches the guards and, with Jesse’s help, turns the laundry into an inferno that destroys any evidence of their involvement in the drug ring. Finally, as Jesse heads off to reunite with Andrea, a victorious Walt is left to reunite with his family as he ponders his future.

Despite all the terrible things Walt did to Jesse, it was always great to see them work together in perfect sync
Those were the best parts, even more satisfying because they were few and far between, so when they worked like that I was quite happy to see them not arguing
I always love the parts of Walter and Jesse working together in crime, those parts have to be ruined because Walter tortures and manipulates Jesse. The more I watch the show, the more I notice bits of Season 1 where he is manipulative and selfish. I mean he even said "I am awake", hinting he wanted to create a buisness in meth.

Walt was a hell of a lot more than just a high school chemistry teacher, he was a genius. And Jesse was a lot more than just a junkie.

After season 4 with Werner you can see why Mike was so pissed about Walt doing this.
Yea, killing Werner did seem to affect him on a very emotional level, one thing I like about better call saul is Mike seems a lot more human in it and Zeigler was a perfect examply
I think Mike was more upset about his boss being murdered. In season 5 Mike almost killed Walt but stopped because Jesse would move out of the way. If he was mad about the lab then he wouldn’t have a problem with shooting Jesse.

This scene is so cathartic. All the danger and frustration of the season, the peril, it stops suddenly when Gus dies. Walter rushes to Jesse, and they escape the lab, burning it down behind them. The music, the lack of words, the seriousness on their faces. This scene feels so good
Face Off is the perfect episode. It climaxes the season by literally blowing up a villain that was untouchable to that point, the points you made about this satisfying scene where they clean up the remains of the mess, the touching father son moment with Walt and Jesse after this, and the seeds of evil planted through Walter's proud delivery of the line 'I won.' to Skyler followed by that panning close up shot of the Lily Of the Valley plant at the end, indicating that the villain of the next series is actually the protagonist...
Mind blowing episode from a mind blowing show.
When I watched this show on Netflix a few years after it ended, I binged it up to this episode and then took a break. I knew how Season 5 went and how that's where it all went downhill for Walt & Jesse, but that break after Season 4 ends is the closest thing this show could have had to a "happy ending". Walt's life is no longer in danger, him and Jesse don't hate each other's guts at the moment, they could have just stopped there and walked away.
@@Fbiguy Yeah the last four episodes of season 4 really did feel like a finale. If this was the final episode, I would have been perfectly satisfied. It did a lot a good finale should do. And apparently, the actual final set of episodes is even better! Can't wait.

@@daves9355 it just gives a lot more context to the lore and the story. Better Call Saul does make you look at Breaking Bad in a more inclusive perspective which is why this universe is so great.

@EmiCubed [GD] I’m not so sure Howard and Lalo don’t get found. This is just a guess, but remember Hank finds the security cameras which leads to Walter building the magnet to erase the drive on Gus’ laptop. Now, what if, and we don’t see this in BB, the writers in BCS have the laundry demolished in the course of the DEA further investigating the Walter White case and in so doing they tear up the concrete floor and that turns up the 2 bodies? Just a guess. There are other things I think remain to be re-explored/tied up like Tuco and Crazy 8, so… we’ll see.
I’d like to think that spark is right above where Lalo and Howard were put.

This lab took two years (at least) to build, was only functioning at max productivity for 6-8 months (ish), and was probably destroyed in about 4 hours or less. The amount of work that went into the lab is crazy. And Walt had to destroy it like he did everything else

For a while, I was reluctant to watch Breaking Bad. Just from the few clips I had seen, It didn't seem interesting to me. A few years later, I grow up. Learn a lot of new things. I decide to give Breaking Bad a watch. Needless to say, ever since I saw this show the first time, no other show has ever even come close (except for Better Call Saul naturally, but those 2 shows basically go hand in hand) to being anywhere near as good as Breaking Bad. This is the greatest TV show I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Vince Gilligan is a literal master. Can't wait for El Camino to come out.
