The thing is, Walt is actually right in his assumptions. Gus was trying to drive a wedge between them and he knew that he could do that by getting Jesse to feel important, something he had never felt when he was with Walt. But the way he tries to explain it comes across as sooooooooo arrogant and patronising that it's essentially just playing into Gus' hands, something Gus knew he could exploit as well. I mean, when Walt tries to pass off Jesse's supposed achievement as being 'all about me', he's really not going to win him over.

This is actually a great scene. It shows both Walt's genius and ego on a 3 minute run. His genius shows through the fact he was able to figure out the robbery was a setup, without even having been there. His ego, though, shines through the fact that Walt thinks the whole situation has anything to do with him, while in reality Gus was only trying to boost Jesse's confidence so that he would be able to help with the Cartel crisis.

After Walt tells him it's all about him, he's going through several emotions and he's so good that every single one is showing off perfectly subtle one after the other while his facial muscles move so slightly. It's incredible how he can portray three different emotions while standing still and not talking. And the transition between them requires accurate and precise contraction of very few face muscles, it's art.

But it also utilises Jesse’s own insecurities, “maybe I’m not such a loser after all”, saving Mike made him feel useful which increased his self worth and reduce his dependency on Walter as a father figure of sorts.
