Never heard of Sue before but honestly--David looks so happy here and his singing is amazing. He looks like the kind of star he always wanted to be. Has been sexy his whole life. I love this video and wish there were more of him playing his heart out like this. He will be missed.

I know the entire Story about Sue and David. She was the very best thing that ever happened for him, in his life, as far as women, or wives, he was with Sue almost 30 years. They were married 23/24 years. Sue filed the divorce, David didn’t want it. They raised their Som together! Both were wonderful parents to their Son Beau, he owned both of their hearts! i wish people would talk what they know instead of thinks the assume. Susan was not David’s type period!! He said she felt to much like a sister to him. Susan was in love with, David during the show, but David was never in love with Susan. He did love her, but not in that way. He Married Kay in 1976, they divorced 6 years later, he married Meryl Tanz, in 1984, he only lived with her 18 months, he had a child a daughter by Sherry Williams in 1986. He would not marry Sherry! He was married on paper to Meryl less than 4 years. He got with Sue in London, he tired to marry her in the 70’s, but Sue married someone else. After her divorce, she did get with David, their divorce was final in March of 2016. Sue was at the hospital with him, she was at his bedside when he passed away, David never took Sue’s name off of his will! Sue was the love of David’s life! He wasn’t high singing this song, goes to show none of you attended his concerts, or knew him!!

She is the mother of his son, they were married 23/24 years, but was really together around 30 years. They raised their son, Beau together. Sue was the very best thing that ever happened for David Cassidy, he knew it also. Sue divorced, David, their divorce was final the year before he passed away. All these women was jealous over Sue, because she’s the one that got him, and was with him the longest! Sue is a wonderful person, as was David. They raised a mighty fine son together that was 26 years old when David passed away. People hate him too, and it’s such a shame because Beau is a very talented, extremely handsome young man, that turned out great! He’s still extremely close to his mother, Sue Cassidy!
I still enjoy his music and it brings be back to a different era. I loved the seventies and the best music came from that era. I really like the gutair he is playing. He always played the best guitars and was always a great guitar player. He definitely was not like any other teen idol, he was a musician first. I really like the stuff he recorded himself and wrote some really good songs too. I think it's a really good time to quit talking about his personal life and just be glad we can still enjoy all the great music he recorded. He was a really classy guy and would never say anything bad about anybody.

He was a great musician and wanted to play rock and roll and instead got stuck being a teen idol. He always wanted to break out of that image. He recorded some really rocking songs that most people never had a chance to hear. I wish this thread was about his music and not his personal life because, he was such a talented musician and a hard worker. Because we are all human and we all have these brutal lessons in life that we learn. I'm sure, after three decades, it was not easy for her to leave, despite the turmoil in their relationship. Love is non selective in terms of a check list, and it transcends beyond this realm. Our hearts grow attached to someone even in the most dysfunctional of relationships. It's easy to fantasize that if I were his wife, how "I" would have NEVER abandoned him in his greatest time of need. But in reality, I believe that we go through the experiences that we are meant to have, and we may not have anything to say about it. The fact remains, that David Cassidy loved this woman, and he shared the majority of his adult life with her; and she shared three decades of her life, with him. They have a son, Beau Cassidy❤️
David said himself in an interview they had been not living as man and wife for over ten years before the divorce. He said they didn’t divorce because he had to much to loose. In the end she took it all and left him pretty much penniless. And some of you people say she loved him. What a joke!

Sharon, I don't think we will ever know exactly why he drank so much (and you've got to drink A LOT to destroy your liver like he did); but I do have some personal insight into something that may have been a BIG contributing factor. My dear Mother, who has dementia and was never a big drinker, developed a problem with alcohol in the early years of her dementia. I would find her sloshed - completely drunk- with a mug and a bottle of my Dad's scotch next to her. It was odd because she didn't drink hard alcohol; hated scotch; and when she did drink, it was an occasional glass of wine. Also, at dinner when wine was served, she would chug glass after glass - not remembering that she had already had one glass. Not having any short-term memory makes you do weird things, like forgetting how many glasses of wine you drank. Finally, we had to remove all alcohol from the house. Back to David now. When David announced he had dementia, Danny Bonaduce said it was like an 'aha moment'. Danny said it all made sense because 'who waits until they are 60 yrs old to start getting DUIs'. Given the experience with my Mother, I see it is possible that David would have a drink, forget he had had a refill, pour another one, forgot he had had a couple, pour another one and all of a sudden, he was inebriated. The real shame is that there was nobody that truly loved him enough to protect him from this behaviour when he was in cognitive decline. His wife and/or girlfriend seemed to be more concerned about what they could get from him and not about helping him with the side effects of dementia - one of which is an uncharacteristic increase in alcohol consumption.
I enjoy watching this video, it shows their love for each other. Sue elevates David's creativity. The huge body of work David created throughout his life, is incredible. The story of Love and suffering. David's story.
She turned out to NOT, be the love of his life! No way. Poor David. He told Dr. Phil, that they two, had all kinds of problems, and he was ultimately unhappy and miserable. His own words. She left him, when he needed someone the most, and he had a new woman, after the divorce. Also know how they were living separate lives in the house, for a long time, like friends, really, separate sides of the house, totally apart, like 2 apartments. this is the truth. Several of my friends worked very closely with David for years. So very sad he never got with, or found his true soulmate. I unabashedly am gonna say, I wish it could have been me.

@@lizzieball3795 Hi, I dated John Denver, for over 2 years, so I really know all about this stuff. Dealt with his alcohol problems, and it was tough. David was a couple, with Sue, from 1991-2016, but for 16 of those years, the relationship had ended, and they just shared separate parts of the house. That's 25 years, minus 16, = 9 years as a couple. I'm not counting, since they met, but the time since they had gotten married. One of my dearest friends, worked with, loved, and adored David, since 1970, and he knew him, and everything going on. He's a very famous musician, too He worked with John Denver, too, and I dated John. So, I know what I know. I know what happened, I know how hurt and disheartened David was, when he didn't love her anymore, and was totally devastated AND unhappy. Thanks so much.

My ex boyfriend/best friend partner, lived together for 13 yrs(he was a talented singer and writer, musicianbut not famous)partially because of his addiction issues, we lived as housemates but best friends. When he passed away due to a cocaine overdose I completely lost my will to live. I took him for granted and I didn't realize how much I loved him until he was dead. So I appreciate you sharing your experience and I understand that their relationship may not have been as close as I had imagined despite sharing their lives for three decades. Take care. Not awkward just realistic, David was prettier than all this exes, I can't speak for the second one because I only saw a pic of her on their wedding day and it was not clear. He was probably much prettier than most of the women he dated or "sowed" with but David was just externally beautiful and naturally endowed with good looks.

I heard rumors that Beau may not even be David's son. Looking at him he does not resemble any of the Cassidy traits. He looks more like his mother. Which brings me to recall a girl who claim that David was her father (not Kate). To no avail, she went thru Beau. He was willing to help her but someone stopped him from submitting DNA. IF Sue stopped him, that in itself is very telling.

I read they divorced when his life was going downhill. But maybe she just got fed up. They were married 25 years, who knows what he put her through, or vice versa. However it is sad, but I did read she was at the hospital, it is possible they stayed friends.
Life with an alcoholic is hell. Yes its a disease, but when an alcoholic refuses treatment, they will go downhill and take whoever along with them. The problem was that he did not realize he needed her, he needed his alcohol, that is the core of the disease, not dealing with the emotional issue. So alcohol becomes the drug to deal with the symptons but not the disease itself. I loved David Cassidy. I have had an alcoholic in my life, that I love deeply, but that love becomes enabling, and eventually it destroys everyone around the alcoholic.
you are so right but sue saved david and got him to go to counseling three times a week for 1.5 hours a session...and then when she had beau he said that healed him every day, working through the demons he had with his late father, jack cassidy...she is a very successful song writer and they did a lot of songs together in the 1990 album "lyin' to myself" but then enigma records went bankrupt and she had their son in 1991 and they got married 2 months later...i think when his mom got sick in 2002 he went back to the bottle!

The feeling I get w/ David Cassidy was that he never really was satisfied with who he reinvented himself as after The Partridge Family. I felt like he wanted to be edgier than his bubblegum pop persona but could never really shed that image after the Partridge Family ended. While he clearly was talented, very handsome, & a great actor, I found his music too pop syrupy sweet for me. Regardless, he died too young & needlessly...may he RIP!
This performance is good but it is David's IT factor and stage presence that makes it work, they were trying to make beautiful music together but only David made the music beautiful in terms of the guitar, shaking his hips and his beauty, and them eyes, his energy and smile. I don't know her and I did not know David but I have said this before, I just don't see the connection and I know they were together for a real long time but I just don't see/feel it.
Angel Pie she was married before. She had a quick fling with David 10 years prior to her other marriage. When her marriage ended , she contacted David again and thats when they hooked up and were married.

David was a good talent and played the guitar well as was for his singing. i think if he was manged better after the Partridge family and got better written songs handed to him he could of kept riding the wave of fame , instead of just being a foot note.
C'mon ladies, we ALL know none of us that felt worthy of being his wife could ever have been happy with his choice in marriage. It is enough for me that he chose her to build a life with. I think the fact that David Cassidy was such a divinely talented and special human, makes his last days more heartbreaking to come to terms with and find peace with. His ex-wife is an easy, natural target to turn toward when we are in need for someone to blame for how tragic his life came to end. I believe the blame lies in David's childhood; with his exposure to his dad's alcoholism, narcissism,competitiveness, emotional neglect. David was a victim of a dysfunctional childhood via his dad. I believe his ex-wife became just as much a victim of that dysfunction, as David was. I think people should consider having compassion for her, as she did devote 30+years to spending her life, with him.
Excuse me, but my friends worked with David, for years. We already went over this, but I'm going to repost on this comment... For starters, they broke up, David, and Shifrin, YEARS, yes, YEARS before the divorce, and lived in that big house, SEPARATE from each other. Yup, like 2 roommates in an apartment building, each on one separate side of the house. David was miserable, defeated, sad, and broken, and not in love with her, any more, and said he was having difficulties with her, and it made him hurt and broken. He only stayed for the little boy, but he knew that he had made another WRONG choice with women. that's why he was so overjoyed to see Susan Dey, at the this is Your Life Thing, where they couldn't stop hugging; she was still the only woman he could trust. He never met the Love of his life, and that makes me so brokenhearted for him, who gave millions upon millions, so much love, and inspiration.

But I have read that the last few years of the marriage they were not even living together, so I don't know. An interview with Katie’s(David’s daughter) mom, she more than clearly indicated a few instances when Sue was extremely jealous and controlling over David. It was said that she was the reason for the distance between father and son. 😢 I know too many of those women AND men. It’s disgusting.
I think it’s a good video - she sounds like Bonnie Raitt here. Not a fan of the clothes, but a lot were wearing that back in the late 80s. Give it a rest people - she stuck with him for a very long time and he seemed to be a complicated and troubled person.

I believe this is the woman that David truelly loved!! When he he could not claim his fame back he turned to alcohol which ruined his marriage and put a kibosh on his career totally!! But so happy in the end he realized his downfall, just heartbroken that it took his life!! He was such a talent and so handsome and wide-eyed in his younger years!!! Truelly will be missed!!

Most of you should read his book. He credits Sue for saving his life. He still thought Kay was a wonderful woman but they just weren't right for each other. He also thought Meryl was a psycho who he tried very hard not to ever think about. Give her a break. She lost someone that she was with for 30 years and that's got to be hard even if they weren't together anymore.

I just keep thinking that fate played a nasty trick on me and kept me from meeting him and developing a relationship with him but maybe it was good this way because it is an awfully hard life with a drinker. . I know the entire Story about Sue and David. She was the very best thing that ever happened for him, in his life, as far as women, or wives, he was with Sue almost 30 years. They were married 23/24 years. Sue filed the divorce, David didn’t want it. They raised their Som together! Both were wonderful parents to their Son Beau, he owned both of their hearts!
i wish people would talk what they know instead of thinks the assume. Susan was not David’s type period!! He said she felt to much like a sister to him. Susan was in love with, David during the show, but David was never in love with Susan. He did love her, but not in that way.
He Married Kay in 1976, they divorced 6 years later, he married Meryl Tanz, in 1984, he only lived with her 18 months, he had a child a daughter by Sherry Williams in 1986. He would not marry Sherry! He was married on paper to Meryl less than 4 years. He got with Sue in London, he tired to marry her in the 70’s, but Sue married someone else. After her divorce, she did get with David, their divorce was final in March of 2016. Sue was at the hospital with him, she was at his bedside when he passed away, David never took Sue’s name off of his will! Sue was the love of David’s life! He wasn’t high singing this song, goes to show none of you attended his concerts, or knew him!!

He always played the best guitars and was always a great guitar player. He definitely was not like any other teen idol, he was a musician first. I really like the stuff he recorded himself and wrote some really good songs too. I think it's a really good time to quit talking about his personal life and just be glad we can still enjoy all the great music he recorded. He was a really classy guy and would never say anything bad about anybody.

I'm sure, after three decades, it was not easy for her to leave, despite the turmoil in their relationship. Love is non selective in terms of a check list, and it transcends beyond this realm. Our hearts grow attached to someone even in the most dysfunctional of relationships.
It's easy to fantasize that if I were his wife, how "I" would have NEVER abandoned him in his greatest time of need. But in reality, I believe that we go through the experiences that we are meant to have, and we may not have anything to say about it. The fact remains, that David Cassidy loved this woman, and he shared the majority of his adult life with her; and she shared three decades of her life, with him. They have a son, Beau Cassidy❤️
David said himself in an interview they had been not living as man and wife for over ten years before the divorce. He said they didn’t divorce because he had to much to loose. In the end she took it all and left him pretty much penniless. And some of you people say she loved him. What a joke!

Sharon, I don't think we will ever know exactly why he drank so much (and you've got to drink A LOT to destroy your liver like he did); but I do have some personal insight into something that may have been a BIG contributing factor.
My dear Mother, who has dementia and was never a big drinker, developed a problem with alcohol in the early years of her dementia. I would find her sloshed - completely drunk- with a mug and a bottle of my Dad's scotch next to her. It was odd because she didn't drink hard alcohol; hated scotch; and when she did drink, it was an occasional glass of wine. Also, at dinner when wine was served, she would chug glass after glass - not remembering that she had already had one glass. Not having any short-term memory makes you do weird things, like forgetting how many glasses of wine you drank. Finally, we had to remove all alcohol from the house.
Back to David now. When David announced he had dementia, Danny Bonaduce said it was like an 'aha moment'. Danny said it all made sense because 'who waits until they are 60 yrs old to start getting DUIs'. Given the experience with my Mother, I see it is possible that David would have a drink, forget he had had a refill, pour another one, forgot he had had a couple, pour another one and all of a sudden, he was inebriated.
The real shame is that there was nobody that truly loved him enough to protect him from this behaviour when he was in cognitive decline. His wife and/or girlfriend seemed to be more concerned about what they could get from him and not about helping him with the side effects of dementia - one of which is an uncharacteristic increase in alcohol consumption.

He told Dr. Phil, that they two, had all kinds of problems, and he was ultimately unhappy and miserable. His own words. She left him, when he needed someone the most, and he had a new woman, after the divorce. Also know how they were living separate lives in the house, for a long time, like friends, really, separate sides of the house, totally apart, like 2 apartments. this is the truth. Several of my friends worked very closely with David for years. So very sad he never got with, or found his true soulmate.

@@lizzieball3795 Hi, I dated John Denver, for over 2 years, so I really know all about this stuff. Dealt with his alcohol problems, and it was tough. David was a couple, with Sue, from 1991-2016, but for 16 of those years, the relationship had ended, and they just shared separate parts of the house. That's 25 years, minus 16, = 9 years as a couple. I'm not counting, since they met, but the time since they had gotten married. One of my dearest friends, worked with, loved, and adored David, since 1970, and he knew him, and everything going on. He's a very famous musician, too He worked with John Denver, too, and I dated John. So, I know what I know. I know what happened, I know how hurt and disheartened David was, when he didn't love her anymore, and was totally devastated AND unhappy. Thanks so much.

My ex boyfriend/best friend partner, lived together for 13 yrs(he was a talented singer and writer, musicianbut not famous)partially because of his addiction issues, we lived as housemates but best friends. When he passed away due to a cocaine overdose I completely lost my will to live. I took him for granted and I didn't realize how much I loved him until he was dead. So I appreciate you sharing your experience and I understand that their relationship may not have been as close as I had imagined despite sharing their lives for three decades. Take care. He was probably much prettier than most of the women he dated or "sowed" with but David was just externally beautiful and naturally endowed with good looks.

I heard rumors that Beau may not even be David's son. Looking at him he does not resemble any of the Cassidy traits. He looks more like his mother. Which brings me to recall a girl who claim that David was her father (not Kate). To no avail, she went thru Beau. He was willing to help her but someone stopped him from submitting DNA. IF Sue stopped him, that in itself is very telling.

I read they divorced when his life was going downhill. But maybe she just got fed up. They were married 25 years, who knows what he put her through, or vice versa. However it is sad, but I did read she was at the hospital, it is possible they stayed friends.
Life with an alcoholic is hell. Yes its a disease, but when an alcoholic refuses treatment, they will go downhill and take whoever along with them. The problem was that he did not realize he needed her, he needed his alcohol, that is the core of the disease, not dealing with the emotional issue. So alcohol becomes the drug to deal with the symptons but not the disease itself. I loved David Cassidy. I have had an alcoholic in my life, that I love deeply, but that love becomes enabling, and eventually it destroys everyone around the alcoholic.
you are so right but sue saved david and got him to go to counseling three times a week for 1.5 hours a session...and then when she had beau he said that healed him every day, working through the demons he had with his late father, jack cassidy...she is a very successful song writer and they did a lot of songs together in the 1990 album "lyin' to myself" but then enigma records went bankrupt and she had their son in 1991 and they got married 2 months later...i think when his mom got sick in 2002 he went back to the bottle!

The feeling I get w/ David Cassidy was that he never really was satisfied with who he reinvented himself as after The Partridge Family. I felt like he wanted to be edgier than his bubblegum pop persona but could never really shed that image after the Partridge Family ended. While he clearly was talented, very handsome, & a great actor, I found his music too pop syrupy sweet for me. Regardless, he died too young & needlessly...may he RIP!
This performance is good but it is David's IT factor and stage presence that makes it work, they were trying to make beautiful music together but only David made the music beautiful in terms of the guitar, shaking his hips and his beauty, and them eyes, his energy and smile. I don't know her and I did not know David but I have said this before, I just don't see the connection and I know they were together for a real long time but I just don't see/feel it.

His ex-wife is an easy, natural target to turn toward when we are in need for someone to blame for how tragic his life came to end. I believe the blame lies in David's childhood; with his exposure to his dad's alcoholism, narcissism,competitiveness, emotional neglect. David was a victim of a dysfunctional childhood via his dad. I believe his ex-wife became just as much a victim of that dysfunction, as David was.
I think people should consider having compassion for her, as she did devote 30+years to spending her life, with him.

For starters, they broke up, David, and Shifrin, YEARS, yes, YEARS before the divorce, and lived in that big house, SEPARATE from each other. Yup, like 2 roommates in an apartment building, each on one separate side of the house. David was miserable, defeated, sad, and broken, and not in love with her, any more, and said he was having difficulties with her, and it made him hurt and broken. He only stayed for the little boy, but he knew that he had made another WRONG choice with women. that's why he was so overjoyed to see Susan Dey, at the this is Your Life Thing, where they couldn't stop hugging; she was still the only woman he could trust. He never met the Love of his life, and that makes me so brokenhearted for him, who gave millions upon millions, so much love, and inspiration.

Poor David throughout his life he never found the woman who would love him.for him. The thought that he died lonely is sad. Exactly, I would not be shocked if Sue drove him back to drink & cheating perhaps due to nagging him to death.
I can't say what Sue did or did not do but David made his own choices. I guess if they both loved music, sang, wrote music and had a "miracle child", a son then perhaps it felt and looked so right. But I have read that the last few years of the marriage they were not even living together, so I don't know. But I do agree, if he liked a certain type of woman then perhaps he was not going to ever find a woman that could/would truly love him for him. Just a thought.

An interview with Katie’s(David’s daughter) mom, she more than clearly indicated a few instances when Sue was extremely jealous and controlling over David. It was said that she was the reason for the distance between father and son. 😢 I know too many of those women AND men. It’s disgusting.

No ~ Susan Dey would not have made a better wife! Sue Shefrin was perfect for him and keep things stable for him (for as long as she could). She really loved him and they were married for a long time. She wrote songs ( for a lot of famious singers)and David wrote songs so she understood the business. Susan Dey would not have been able to handle it. They made great friends, but not make life long companions. Read his book about his relationship with Susan Dey.

Kids would be singular. Less than a year before he died in an interview he said he had no real relationship with his daughter. She was raised by others and although he was her biological father he did not raise her. Now she rides on his coat tails that he is her dad even though she has her own established career. His only child he acknowledged was his son. His words.

I believe this is the woman that David truelly loved!! When he he could not claim his fame back he turned to alcohol which ruined his marriage and put a kibosh on his career totally!! But so happy in the end he realized his downfall, just heartbroken that it took his life!! He was such a talent and so handsome and wide-eyed in his younger years!!! Truelly will be missed!!

So, that's my take on it .I lost my father when I was in my early 20's and see that as 1 more thing in common with David. I also had my son in 91 . .same year as David's son was born! I just keep thinking that fate played a nasty trick on me and kept me from meeting him and developing a relationship with him but maybe it was good this way because it is an awfully hard life with a drinker. .
