- RS 8 Oscar Tybring ligger i skrivende stund på land på Isegran og lengter etter omfattende restaurering. Denne filmen ble laget av The Oscar Tybring Society i USA for å seile Oscar Tybring hjem til Norge fra California i forbindelse med Redningsselskapets 100-årsjubileum i 1991.
My husband and I sailed on the Oscar for a year and a half in the early 70's. Capt. and owner was Jim Kling. What a wonderful boat. I learned so much on this boat. Most of all a love for the sea.

"The Oscar" was my home as a young man for a couple of years in the 60's. She is personally responsible for my love of sailing and traditional vessels. An amazing boat with an amazing history.
Glad she made it home and I hope she last's forever.
At the moment she is lying in bad condition on land. She is standing at "Isegran" in Fredrikstad/Norway, protected from further deterioration - but at the moment she is in no condition to get back in the water.
Per Abich Thank you for your reply though it makes me sad. I have many good memories of her. Are there plans to preserve her? Is it a matter of funding?
Steve Smith As far as I know she is owned by the owner of a wooden boat shipyard - I guess they have the intend to fix her, but I am not sure about the funding and/or time to do it.
Steve Smith Hello, Dr. Frank Hester was my step father, he's the narrator and previous owner from the 1970s through Expedition USA to Norway 1991. Do you know where she is today, I lived on her while in restoration before crossing the bigger seas, to bring her home... was married on her and lost my brother to the sea, while living in Mexico on The Oscar.
Yes, she is laid up on land in Fredrikstad /Norway. She is badly in need of restoration. At the moment only the further decay has been stopped
I lived aboard RS 8 Oscar Tybring one winter at Aker Brygge in Oslo, Norway. She was still afloat, but needed someone to 'man the pumps' (check that they were working) and keep an eye on her for the owners. This was just before she was towed to Isegran, Fredrikstad and laid up - round about 2008 ? She had no rigging and was in poor shape, but what a history in that hull ! I remember early morning coffee & biscuits standing in the hatch as daylight broke.
Thank you for posting this video. The redningskoite are magnificent sailing craft and this one is a fitting tribute to a great man. I can only hope she will be kept sailing. Takk!
