Your unique art style and confidence in simplicity really helps me learn and if I ever got to be anywhere near as kind of a person as you, going out of your way to help beginners, I would be proud
I almost cried because of your mastery over drawing. Each line brings meaning to the drawing and defines it. You have shown that we dont really need to copy bit for bit of the drawing. This has been a valuable lesson for me. Thank you
Been struggling on how to draw the other eye. I've watched many tutorial out there; none of them worked. But when I started to follow your process (a simple way to draw eyes, i couldn't been more grateful. Thanks to your channel. I learned a lot.❤❤❤
I have no previous experience in learning any traditional art, Starting with digital drawing it has been very overwhelming with where to start and even getting basic construction lines and proportions correct. But this has been a blessing and so very comforting for me to keep practicing and improving! Thank you so very very much Chommang 🙏💙
Oh my goodness, I've been waiting for a video like this from you in a while as I'm struggling to draw realistic faces(due to procrastination and other things) and I feel frustrated that I wanted to give up. So thanh you, Chommang🙏
These face practice videos are helping me so much in my art journey!! I've been struggling with drawing faces for the longest time and with this video, I finally drew my first proper face! XD I'm so glad I found your channel!! Thank you for these!!
Yes it is. But I did learn to draw one of his other 3/4 profile sketches after a LOT of practice. I drew it over and over, each time critiquing what was wrong and how to fix it. Over about a week after about 140+ sketches, I know how to do it. More importantly I know WHY I am making the pencil marks. He is a GREAT TEACHER. I FEEL LIKE I AM IN ART SCHOOL, but a fun one!!!
For those who would practice after him , chop a part of your beginning circle longitudinally a little bit , cause if it's a perfect circle , the jaw becomes wide Good luck ❤
I measured his “circle” and it was an oval, 5x4.5cm, or 6x5cm. I was wondering why I wasn’t getting what he’s getting. If you chop a little vertically, you get more of the oval he had.
JUST FYI, I was having a problem with blocking this out, then realized Chommang “circle” was 5x4.5cm (my scale). So his circle was a bit of an oval to accommodate her particular head. I suppose this means he’s adjusting based on who he’s looking that, or is that proportion more common than uncommon??? Anyway, if you proceed with a perfect circle to block it out, you get a compressed face. The real hard part is the blocking and proportions of your initial LAYOUT. If you get that right you’ll get a “PRETTY GIRL”. Get it wrong and you get “FRANKENSTEIN”. It doesn’t take much with the human face. Small unnatural mistakes are quickly picked up by anyone looking at your sketch. Conclusion: Put serious effort & attention on this initial Loomis Layout because it governs everything and you’ll save time in the long run.
Your story is a good one, too. But I think it's good to follow the guidelines, but at some point I think I should go beyond them. I want you to use it(guidelines) only as a tool for your eye sensation. It doesn't matter if it's not an exact circle, it doesn't matter if it's a little wrong. Eventually, your eyes will be fixed to the proportions you like. I hope you practice with the idea that you are practicing to develop your eyes' senses through many drawings. :)
@@Chommang Thank you sir. I am trying to follow the guidelines and I try to re-create each of your sketches MANY times, sometimes over 100 times each. After each drawing I CRITIQUE “write down next to the sketch” what I did wrong & why it doesn’t look right. I’ve improved so much, and learned so much, especially about drawing 3/4 profile portraits. In just 2 months your videos have helped me create some beautiful drawings.
MATERIALS USED: Just realized he listed his pencils in the description this is fun! 🙂 1) Wood pencil 👉 B & 4H (Tombow MONO, 4H) 2) Mech Pencil #1 Brown 👉 Pentel 203, 0.3mm, HB? 3) Mech Pencil #2 Yellow 👉 I saw a Pentel 209, 0.9mm, 2B? (He mentioned a 0.7mm, but the Pentel Sharp 0.7 is a blue color) 4) Fabriano “Drawing” paper. A 6”x 6” (15x15cm). I cannot find square Fabiano paper anywhere. I can find 6”x9”.
Hi Chommang, May I ask what LEAD HARDNESS you used in the YELLOW 0.9 mechanical pencil and the BROWN 0.3 mechanical pencil? Thank you so much. I have been regularly “drawing with you”. It makes me happy. 💚
