06:04 Hm it seems easier to play that sax lick starting on the root, minor 3rd maj 3rd blues notes and switch to B string 5 fret, return to root then minor 3rd + major rd and end on root. Less movement and all I need to do is to roll my index finger. Or I can do half bend on fret 7 on G string + whole bend and return to root, end with minor rd+maj 3rd+root again. That is cooler sound and you already got three finger lined up to push those bends.
albert collins is interesting as he plays organ licks, chris poland, the early megadeth guitarist plays, jan hammer licks! i love the sound of guitar licks but other instruments are great for ideas too, i even recommend playing them to a degree too, the clues in the name, you play at it, my last thing was working out chords on a violin and finger picking it, creating a style on a junk shop violin, i helped my guitar too.. i would write delta blues riffs on it too
This is really good advice, In fact from watching interviews with some incredible guitar players like BB King he stated many times that he took a lot of his phrasing and soloing licks from the great blues horn players of the 30's and 40's big bands of the era such as Count Bassey etc. Eric Johnson said in a few videos and interviews that he got his playing style of his spread triads and way of playing arpeggios and solos from piano and David Gilmour said he tried to make his lead guitar parts sound like a singer as much as possible so his phrasing and lead style he got from listening to singers he grew up listening to such as bob dylan, leadbelly and BB King.
After I was roughly comfortable improvising througjt the pentatonic, I started adding notes from the natural scale. It seemed that Samaria had some tendency to include/expand into the natural scale while mostly sticking within the pentatonic scale.
I hate to be "that" guy, especially given that I really learn a lot from your videos and I love your teaching style, but ... (and I'm surprised that I don't immediately see that anyone else has pointed this out) there is no "d" in Sanborn ... Regardless of that, of course, yet another great lesson. Thank you, as always.
Thanks Blue! I was a bit stuck in my pentatonic shapes. So cool to use this in a backing track. But now a stupid question... do I play this on a backing track in A or Am?
Played it in a backing track in A. Sounds good. Before the hammer on the minor 3th, I first start hit the 5th and a hammer on the F (from the Aeolian scale). Sounds nice.
Thanks! Should be a backing track in A major or a blues in A... in other words the lick can be used on an A or A7. As soon as you have a major 3rd it's got to be major 😀
if you aren't stealing, you aren't trying. every guitarist, even the best, have stolen riffs and licks from someone. in fact, it's probably the highest compliment a guitarist could get, to have their licks stolen.
Sounds really cool as well if you bend from the blue note to the fifth before going back to the root. (if you're not careful here Blue you're going to end up teaching me a bit of music theory 😂)

Very cool, Blue Clear and concise.
Thank you kindly!
Santana, many moons ago, spoke extensively about being influenced by Horn Players...Miles Davis, and John Coltrane.
Great example thanks!
im from richmond, im so happy to find a channel that represents our citys music scene
Thank you! Welcome to the channel. Lots more coming here
Good one. It's nice to know that we can mix other notes in with the pentatonic scale.
Thank you!!
Very cool, Sax Licks work great on Guitar
Thanks for watching!

Isn't that what I say just after, at 06:30? Maybe you mean something different.
Very cool! I love the Little Wing video with Clapton and Sheryl Crowe, where Clapton and Sanborn play off each other in the solo parts.
Oh interesting I haven't seen that. I'll check it out, thanks!

'whipping boy' by ben harper uses that chromatic line.. good lesson, thanks, i am going to gig this lick on the 30th in our blues band!
Nice! Good examples thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks for the extra support!
Yeah, great idea, I like it.
Thanks QBRX!!
Fun idea. Like Nick Drake and his singing.
Right at the end really reminds me of taking care of business. Love listening broader and getting other ideas.
Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Cool Blue!
Thanks Scooby Doo!
That is a cool Strat
Thanks. It's custom made for me by a local.
Brilliant Blue!!! Very good idea!
Thank you José!!!
Nice concept! Thanks! 👍🏻
Thanks again for watching
That´s a really cool idea! It reminds me on Joe Walsh again. He often uses these chromatic runs.🎸
Yeah, I can hear some Joe Walsh in that for sure.
This is great stuff. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks for watching 😎
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
You rule, great idea to use saxophone riffs as sources for cool licks!
Thank you!

Great examples! Thanks for posting that.
Steal away! Excellent concept
Thanks for watching!

That's a good idea too. Thanks for posting
The hammer on I believe is called a slurred note. I once played the clarinet very poorly
Cool thanks!

you're definitely takin care of business sir.
Thank you!
You wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a handbag, you wouldn't steal a television... but a lick... yeah, definitely 😀
Haha well said
Flea from the RHCP cops trumpet licks for his fill all the time.
Ah interesting example thank you!

Good point, it is a compliment
...and they all get it from the drummer 🥁🎸
Could steal their rhythm I suppose 😄
I steal cuz I don't know any of my own. I also have that T-shirt
Nice!
Stealing is just wrong. I hope David Sanborn doesn't mind if I borrow this one for awhile.
Haha nice!
Well alrighty then, consider it stolen... 😉
Haha 😀

Good idea that would be a cool sound 😎
