I am about to do this upgrade on my 88 GTA as well. Did you have any problems running 4 ohm speakers instead of the original 10 ohm? Huge thanks for the video.
No I didn't have any issues, CNET has an interesting article on this. It seems to me that the only time people run into issues is at a very loud volume. Since my headunit is the original and audio quality is not the best, I never get into that range anyways. www.cnet.com/tech/home-entertainment/how-to-stop-worrying-about-speaker-impedance/
@@RamblinGarage Great and thanks for the link. I came to almost the same conclusion. Had there been a lot of issues one would certainly also find a lot more threads online in forums about the problems. I just replaced the front speakers in my Trans Am, sounds great.
Is it necessary to pull the dash out to do the front speakers? I’ve got a short to ground on my RR speaker and I already need to gut the interior to get it out
How are you able to put 4 ohm speakers in a radio that was designed for 10 ohms? Wouldn't that kill your amps
I also have a 1989 T/A GTA were the rear speakers an option back then ? I have never heard audio from the back unless the speakers are gone.
I don't think they were an option, at least not on the higher trims. I would pull the covers and see what you are or aren't working with haha
Looks like mine have those 6x9s I guess I never noticed since the one on driver side doesn’t even work haha! Time to upgrade these original speakers
@@HustleHusky haha nice! Perfect time for an upgrade!

Yeah, you could maybe remove the speaker covers, but you risk breaking them in the process.
@@RamblinGarage bolt in or just clips?
The dash has screws holding it in, I show all the locations in the video.
Anyone know where to find the covers that go over the rear speakers?
Have you tried Hawks? I would start there.
You can also find the rear speaker covers at most of the automotive carpet sites, stock interiors etc.
Did you use the 72-1002 for the front speakers or just the rears?
I needed them for both, you can see at 2:55 that the factory speaker has the goofy harness.
I miss our 85 T/A
It's about to be a really good time to buy another! Prices are dipping a tad and then I assume they will continue moving up!
Where did you get the steering wheel
Thats a factory 89 GTA steering wheel.
@@RamblinGaragewere you able to wire the new radio system to the volume buttons and stuff on the wheel?
😊 how much is the car 🚗 4$$
