If you think Roswall is a badass villan only for the anime, then you would be amazed by the level of villan of him cuz the extra info that you can know by reading the novel. SPOILER: This was not explained very well in the anime but in the novel it is made clear that Roswaal achieved the immortality that Echidna always dreamed of by leaving offspring only for Roswaal's soul to take the bodies of his offspring and thus selfishly end the lives of his own children in order to continue with his insane idea of reviving Echidna for the hundreds of years it takes to revive her. Currently Roswaal in the anime is in the body of possibly a great-great-grandson. Furthermore, Roswaal is purposely very selective with whom he leaves offspring because he wants to have the best genes most suited to controlling magic in order to have the most efficient and powerful body possible. Roswaal is not only crazy, in fact, his current body is the selective genetic peak that he made. He achieved what Echidna never could, the living image of when a student surpasses the master.
