Today's episode is Part 2 of my day thrifting in Longview, WA! I shop 3 more stores in Longview and couldn’t resist shopping another Goodwill on my way home. That is a very beautiful desk. Would it be teak? Mid-century teak is really highly sought-after in Ontario. Comes at a very high price tag too!
I upgrade and I think my friends think I am crazy. But it is so fun to flip things and get something nicer. I have finally found a few forever pieces though.

That copper fabric stamp is Indonesian, Laura, used for a technique called Batik, using wax and paint.

Exactly. To furnish your home from big box stores is not authentic. To furnish a home takes a lot of time and effort to make it reflect who you are. Your true self.

Amen on the target comment. I went to interior design school and felt like I was the only one who felt how you described. I "self design" my own home, didn't care to stay in the industry and work in furniture stores. Interior design (and thrifting) is an art form in my mind....total self expression.
My personal style is blended and that's what makes it so fun. My clothing style is very much a blend of both you and Selena, romantic boho so I thoroughly have enjoyed all your channels❤

Hey Laura, I love what you said at the end of today’s episode about loving to go into people’s home and seeing their unique style not what is trending. I live in a 1914-1917 farmhouse that belonged to my great grandparents, however I have discovered I don’t want it to look like a TJ Max farmhouse style. Although my house was built in the early 1900’s it has never not been lived in therefore it has seen every trend imaginable. I like your idea of mixing styles. I want to see a little of my great grandma and a little of my grandma (aka Granny) along with my own style. You definitely inspire me.

I just love so many different things and I don't like my home to be a target store, as that's not me. I love everyone, so naturally I love pieces from every style. The painted flowers on the furniture are plumeria and it's a Hawiian themed piece.

Your desk is a fabulous find! I grew up in “mid-century” so I chuckle each time I hear that phrase. My mother was a perfectionist at sewing curtains and pinch pleated drapes, painting and wallpapering thus our 1920s home was beautifully decorated. I moved away in 1965 and my best friend all through school loved our home so much that she and her husband bought it! Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s I lived in Portland when few people were “antiquing” and prices were very low. Even back then it was a fun place to shop but you definitely have a wealth of thrifts and antique stores to hunt.

Can’t agree more, I love my eclectic thrifted decor. I love watching visitors checking out all my unique finds. Sold my very first thrifted item too the other day - a $20 brass candelabra for $50 nothing too mind blowing but it was fun to make some money from doing something I love.

In Norteast Ohio our Goodwill stores seem to be just used items with no great value. I love your videos and the great treasures you discover. I will try searching more thrift stores. Can’t wait to see your newly purchased house. Your sunny disposition is wonderful.

Hey Laura, your desk is beautiful and I love how you took your time and waited till you got exactly what you wanted. Thrifting does take time and in the end you are rewarded with something that reflects who you are and who you want the world to see you as. Thanks for continually reinforcing this.

Those lucite salad servers were bomb! Totally agree on mixing styles and periods. My personal style has changed a lot over the years but right now I'd describe it as '80s feminine modernist'. There's a lot of earth tones and natural materials contrasted with pastels, geometric glass and sculptural crystals. 99% of it is thrifted, roadside or DIY.
the metal stamp you found is an Indonesian batik "cap" from Java. It's a stamp that you dip into hot wax and then stamp the textile. Batik is a wax resist technique for hand dyeing patterns onto fabric.

I love how you say mix your styles together. I have always decorated that way. I have antiques, modern, handmade art, fake plants because my cats love to eat plants and no carpet so we can change the area rugs. I even have a vintage Murphy bed that looks like a dresser. 🌻 from Las Vegas, NV

I say I'm not mid century but I love wooden critters & have a large collection of them😁, brass anything...I have several of those claw bells, pottery, clean lines on furniture, my everyday silverware is Mar Crest Atomic Starburst.....🤔...lol....I think my TRUE style identity has been identified 🤣

My wedding bouquet had cala lollies in it! LOVE them!
I don't have a spot but Florence is great. Make sure you hit the St. Vinny's there & Goodwill. Check out the antique stores on the highway. They're often in that sweet spot between thrift and true antique pricing! Here in North Bend the Hospice thrift store is super cheap, often has good stuff. In Coos Bay there is Leaf's Treehouse that is 2 floors and often reasonably priced. Have fun!! Looking forward to the coastal videos.

You would be so depressed at my Goodwills At least I can live through you
I live in Ohio (eastern suburbs of Cleveland) and it's the same situation here. In fact, I went to a local garage sale a couple years ago that advertised jewelry. When I went, they had many tables full plus stacks of totes....all jewelry. I asked if they had a shop. The woman replied that she works at Goodwill and her boss told her to sell the jewelry at her garage sale. I was so angry when I left because I used donate to Goodwill. If my donation is going in her pocket or her bosses pocket, that's theft. I no longer donate to any of the thrift stores. Now I only donate to churches or somebody I know.

We got two in our town and both are boring. I want to mover to Oregon where the stores look like these.
Mine too, they're stock is basically nothing all the time no matter what time of day, or day you go.
My two local Goodwills depress me too!
The 3rd weekend of every month there is a flea market in Svenson Oregon.
Have to share a story with you. After one of your videos, I called the store and purchased two items from their shop. One of the items turned out to be much larger than I expected and I ended up paying more in shipping than what the items cost! I learned a valuable lesson!

Your first painted cabinet had some blue and gold cups and dishes sitting on it. A few years ago I was able to buy my daughter a whole set of that for her birthday. It’s called luster ware. I still have it here. She says she has no where to put it. Now I have to find her a cabinet to hold it! Kids, you have to love them!
