- Francis Hawkings is a seasoned sailor who began his maritime adventures in Scotland.
In this video, Francis shares his experiences aboard `Plainsong`, his Tradewind 35, which has taken him to Tahiti, Pitcairn, Easter Island, Cape Horn, Patagonia, and, most recently, Japan.
A true gentleman of the sea, Francis’s tales are a treasure for serious sailors and anyone captivated by life on the ocean. He is the author of the Pacific Crossing Guide 4th Edition, published by Bloomsbury Publishing.

That was most enjoyable, and a massive thanks for posting it very much appreciated. I’m 67 and wondering if I have the guts to go solo sailing again. I vowed never to do it again, that was back in 2001 when I was much younger :) Even though I had the best time of my life. I’m constantly looking for that perfect sailboat to take me far away from the maddening crowd…
