First question to ask is 'do you really need an oscilloscope?'. I have done tens of thousands of repairs over 30 years and rarely use my scope except for analog audio checking. In my repairs (mostly old arcade games) a logic probe and multimeter is enough, together with powered desoldering tool and TTL logic, RAM and ROM chip tester. For clock checking I use a dedicated handheld frequency counter. To check reset present or digital data activity a simple logic probe can do it but be sure to use the type with piezo speaker because the noise it makes is also useful to determine the problem. Analog audio coming out of opamps can also be heard with logic probe piezo speaker. For analog audio before opamp, checking with logic probe is not possible as it only shows a constant high so to see the active audio waveform a scope is needed. It depends on the situation. A shop doing a lot of varied repairs can benefit from having a scope... providing they know how to use it and how to decipher what the screen shows. Amateur person at home with broken TV should just buy another new TV and move on... or bring it to Mr Haseeb to fix it :-)

Great video on this subject Sir! I only have a Leader LBO-523, 35 Mhz analog scope, but I look to add a digital scope to my equipment. I've watched MANY scope videos and I still learned a lot from this video and it will aid in my decision in the future when I add to my collection. I've got an old (1940's) 2.5 inch crt I would like to build a VERY basic XY scope to use with a home made curve tracer. I love to start my day with an extra large (extra strong) coffee and your videos. Best regards!

Salam, we generally use oscilloscopes to check voltage/time waveforms. A have bought a siglent oscilloscope that shows in the menu AMPS and you also mentionned it in the video. How does an oscilloscope deal with amps ? Thanks.

Thank you for your information, I am currently looking to purchase an oscilloscope for my workshop to repair special voltage ATX power supplies (for the ultrasound machine) and other cards that have logic circuitry. What do you advise me?
    Thank you very much

Keep the scope power supply ISOLATED from the same ground as the ATX power supply. Lots of videos on this subject and Haseeb and W2AEW cover this in great detail in other videos. Good luck!

Sir, I have SIGLENT SDS1102CML+ DSO. It requires self calibration at each 15 to 20 minutes of operation. How to fix this, please suggest.
