- This is my 3rd Dash Cam from the Nextbase lineup. This model is the first to offer 4K, Super Slow Motion, What 3 Words and more. I go into most features while sharing examples of how they are used.
The 4K footage looks outstanding, however my rendering software found the codec troublesome while making the TH-cam video, so I had to reduce the quality in the footage a little. I think it is still representative of how it should look, but technically is better that what you are seeing in the footage.

ReisTV, I haven’t tried the BlackVue product to compare. They seem to do the same job, but the blackvue is much smaller and the Nextbase has image stabilization. I wish I could help you and your out with more info. Price is lower on the Nextbase too, so there is that.
I saw this on the Just truckin channel and I thought they did a great advertising piece for your product,I’m thinking about getting one soon,We as truck drivers out here need all the help we can get when things unfortunately goes wrong and also just to capture great footage of all of the different places we travel.
I hear ya, I had a short stint truck driving too. There is a lot of mayhem out there. So far this dash cam has been solid for me.
Good review! What do you think about its 1080P video quality? My 622GW's 1080P is terrible (I see pixel blocks on all of the edges) but I don't know whether it is a common or mine's particular issue.
Thank you! I don’t think what you are experiencing is normal for any resolution. Having used 3 Nextbase camera’s now, even with the 622 set at 1080p, I haven’t seen that issue. Are you using a card with a fast enough write rate? I have seen issues with video recording equipment where a memory card is fast for pulling info off, but too slow writing to the card. This leads to problems with footage. It may not be what is happening to you, but just a thought.
@@Donslife Thank you for the advice. Yes, I'm using a decent fast memory card (actually, 622GW rejects slower card) and no issue when use 4K or 1440P, only 1080P is unbelievably crap. Even the license plate on the car right in front of me blur. FW v5.9 issue? I'll talk to Nextbase.

Hi Fred, I didn’t make a video showing parking mode. Basically the camera senses vibration and ‘wakes’ up and starts recording. The hope is that whatever set it off will be captured for review. Sorry I didn’t make a video replicating that.
Have been running in 4K and not overly happy with picture quality but will try now 120fps setting you mentioned.
I have a 622 and for 4k its not that good, its not sharp at all, and i have a red tint that is on the clips somtimes , I have a Vantrue and its 4k is a lot sharper even if its far to bright in colour. I am thinking a lot of theres on youtube are getting dash cams from nextbase etc for free to just get there scores up.
You should have night footage as well, one of the main selling points of a dashcam

Does this one easily unclip to remove the camera overnight? I have the 312gw and the camera can be removed on its own leaving all mounts and wiring where they are.
Yes 100% removable from the magnetic clip. Makes it super clean and easy

Yes the whole bracket stays behind, either the suction mount or the adhesive mount don’t leave the vehicle

Good review 👍🏻 but do you know if you plug in the rear camera does it downscale from 4K ? That was the problem with the 512gw I own at the moment
I did some research and found an article that mentions the entire model range up to the 622, but it only mentions the 422/522 have this limitation. The article doesn’t state one way or the other for the 622. I will be purchasing the rear camera attachment in the near future and I will update this comment.

Hey Just bought one and the bluetooth keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. which interrupts the music that im playing it also it beeps every now and then. Help ☹
Do you use the bluetooth feature regularly? Is it the vehicles bluetooth or your phone’s Bluetooth that it is reconnecting to! I don’t know exactly what’s going on either way. Not sure if you did a firmware update or not. You could contact Nextbase for support as well.
Is the app compatible with android? And how is the recording when the car is off? Is there a swivel on in the mount( to adjust the camera angle).
I am really looking for something that works well at night when my car is parked...
Hi Chris! The app is available for android. The camera has a built in battery that will record when the power supply is turned off and it detects the vehicle being bumped. There is a swivel on the mount to allow some adjustments for some better angles. Hope this helps!

I saw on another YT review in regards to Parking Mode of the 622gw that it takes 6 seconds for the camera to record after detecting a bump. Can you confirm this? 6 seconds is excessively long and will likely never catch the culprit.
I think my 522 and 622 are more like 2-3 seconds when woken up.

Hi dose the 622GW have motion sensor if hard wired or do you have to touch the car to activate it
It has a vibration sensor built in and works with or without a charging/power cable as long as the internal battery is holding a charge. It can easily last a week on a charge as long as it doesn’t have to record too many events solely on battery power.

Is this something you can simply forget about when you drive and it does it automatically? It seems insane that you have to set extreme weather mode? Hi There! Many questions, here are some answers : Froze once in the heat of the summer. Performed a reset, formatted the card (NEXTBASE BRAND) and no problem since. Continuous recording depends on SD card size. I use a 32GB and drive 1-3 hours per day and it records over a week, maybe more depending on stops and g-shock triggers to record when parked. The recordings will overwrite the oldest files as long as you haven't locked them, or the camera hasn't chose to lock them due to an event (g-shock sensor). The cloud is not automatic, which in my opinion is fine otherwise I would chew through my data plan quickly and that would get expensive. This Camera is also 2+ years old now and I would suspect the next versions will have more improvements. I hope this helps.

👋🏼 You need to be in range and the camera powered up. It uses a wifi hot spot created/broadcast by the camera for your connection

I received this model as a gift. The Bluetooth on my model os currently off. How do I turn it on?
From Nextbase : Open the MyNextbase connect app on your phone (iPhone or Android) and select the "Dash Cam" button at the bottom of the screen and tap "Connect Dash Cam". Wait for your Dash Cam model to appear on the screen, the serial number should match the number on the base of your Dash Cam. Tap on this box to connect.
Does it use the same power lead as older models?
I already have a nextbase hard wired so can I just plug in the new body?

Does it auto recording. Like it turn on without push any button?
Hi Nazkar, Yes it does! When the circuit turns on from the ignition (if hardwired) or the 12volt adapter turns on, so does the camera. It starts recording immediately. If you have parking mode turned on, it will start recording too using battery power and will shut off on its own or if the battery runs out. (Manual states 10-15mins on a full charge)

It is all App based, so whatever your using (tablet or phone) you can access the dash cam to do everything you’ve mentioned. You have to connect to the wifi network broadcast by the dash cam. It is short range and requires the camera to be powered on. Therefore you have to be in or close to the vehicle

Just bought mine from Best Buy for $316.49 + free installation. Does this have an internal battery to record during parking mode? Or will I need to hardwire to constant power?
It has an internal battery that will last 10-15 of recording. The battery can last several days if it isn’t triggered too often in parking mode
How sensitive is the motion sensor while parked
The G sensor (Shock sensor) seems pretty good. I think it would sense a bumper tap or rub from another vehicle for sure. Hard rain set mine off
When the engine is turned on, the camera turns on but after 3 seconds it stops recording time, what is it?
I haven’t had that issue with any of my cameras (422,522 or 622) but I would try the following:
- Remove the memory card and see if it has the same problem. If it doesn’t, it might be the card.
- Try a different charging cable or power source, maybe the voltage is lower than needed. I wonder of it is getting power at all, or is it turning on with a small amount of battery power and then shutting off immediately to conserve power? Sometime the 12v (cigarette) lighter adapters don’t make proper contact in some outlets.
- Make sure your settings are correct. I have read that the cameras will turn off automatically if there is no motion detected (in some cases). Mine will shot off automatically too but probably after 20-30 seconds of no motion (estimate).
- make sure your firmware is up to date
You might have to contact Nextbase if the problem persists.

Thinking of purchasing the next base 622, but would like to know the following if anybody can help. Assuming the Dashcam is connected to WiFi, could I veiw live footage away from the car, for instance, if car parked on a car park and I’m elsewhere?
Unfortunately you can only view live footage while connected to the dash cam’s wifi signal. Also downloading footage can take awhile over wifi so keep that in mind too

Some. The Garmin needs to be connected to a reliable wifi connection and have a constant powered connected.
The Garmin Dash Cam must be connected to an active Wi-Fi connection.
Examples include home Wi-Fi, work Wi-Fi, or in-vehicle Wi-Fi.
Live streaming generally requires a reliable 1 Mbps upload data rate.
Live View may not work with a poor internet connection or hot spot.

I actually had to check if I am playing the video on low quality or not. The image quality of the dashcam doesn’t look impressive. Might be better off mounting an iPhone and using this as dashcam 🤦♂️
Maybe. I know the file used a weird compression scheme that the video editing software didn’t like.
I use to have a 4k Chinese dash cam, when a car is going so fast when you pause it, the car will be blurry but the number plate will be clear. The dash cam £60. I bought this 622GW gave me £60 cam away to a friend.
So according to you, 4k will not catch number plate when you pause at a on coming car???? What is a point of 4k on a dash cam (NEXTBASE) if it will only catch details on low resolution???

Which dash cam would you recommend as the best overall budget dash.
The 422GW is pretty good on a budget. Or the 522GW for a little more has better battery performance. Garmin has some budget dash cams that are decently rated too. For 4K, unfortunately I haven’t seen any ‘budget’ dash cams.

Yes I do for the price range and if you are good with 1440p resolution (which is pretty good for what a dash cam is used for).

What pixel is the camera on this ?
3840x2160 30fps (4K or 8 million pixels) - This is the highest setting. Turning on Image Stabilization and/or adding secondary cameras will drop the resolution.

Do you need the app ? Can yoy just use this device without it ?
You’ll need the app initially for updates and if you want to transfer footage wirelessly. You can use the camera without the app and get footage off of the Micro SD card. You change all the settings/preferences directly on the camera too.
When exactly do you talk about how to set up Slow Motion? You say at the end that you like the Slow Motion, but nothing online shows how to set that up, including you.
Super slow motion means that when you review to footage (recorded at 120fps) you’ll have 4 times as many frames to review per second. This will give you more details to review on your computer, phone or on the units display. The purpose is to have extra video frames captured to review an incident and hopefully see more important details.
Does this dash cam have motion detection?
Not this model
How long is the battery life
Nextbase states 10-15 minutes if fully charged. So that could be 10+ one minute recordings if your car was crashed into while parked. Mine works with the battery but I haven’t tested the lifespan

I have always found it strange how 1080 looks way worse than 4K viewing through youtube when I'm viewing it on a 1080 monitor.... Get your shit together youtube! Clearly to much compression on the 1080 stream causing it to look worse than it is.

@@scott-lc8xc tough to say since it would depend on many factors. How many incidents set it off to start recording. Length of recording presets. Ambient temperature. For me I have gone a couple weeks without driving the car and the battery was charged. If it was recording while on battery power continuously, I would estimate 20-30 mins.

@@banyhussain4223 the app has been okay on my iphone X and now iphone 11. I haven’t used the app on other sites phones as of right now. Downloading footage to my phone from the 522 was too slow. My 622 is faster but still could be faster. Popping the card out to connect to a computer is the option I choose. Still the app wasn’t freezing for me on my two iphones.
What is the max size SD card it can handle?
Nextbase states 128mb U3. I am using a Nextbase branded 32mb U3 and no problems and is good enough for daily driving. Road trips you may want a 64 or 128. Or even a few cards.

Too bad, mine has been solid. Froze once in direct sunlight on a crazy hot day. A reset and a format and it was fine. I am using the NextBase branded MicroSD too. I have heard of freezing with several models if a slow speed card is used

100% yes. A few options I think. One wide angle to see passengers, one zoom version to see out the back window and one with a long wire you can attach a cam to the exterior.
Parking mode??
Yes parking mode is when the camera turns on if it senses a shock or bump and starts recording.

@@amansingh1851 as soon as a hit is detected it will turn on and record hoping to get you footage of what happened. Perhaps a vehicle driving away or a persons face if breaking into the vehicle

Nextbase is a rebrand of cheap chineese brand, such as Tio-Tech/dod-tech, also Samoon, they never make any dash cams...
Interesting, I wasn’t aware of that. Rebranding electronics is so common.
why is the quality SO poor on all these cameras? - It is impossible to read the number plates, which imo makes it useless?

This camera causes interference on you radio FM (DAB) for Mercedes-Benz. The Nextbase installers are incompetent too; they damaged one of the A-Pillar trim covers when the front camera was uninstalled. AVOID
I think it’s an installation issue. I have installed 4 of these (3 different models) and haven’t had any FM interference
When parked ? If you go in house leave it in to record incase some 1 bumps you ? Wont work with no power, plus leave it in car will get nicked 🤣 then you wont be viewing anything
