Silverlea Marktime (Mac) - 5 year old, 13.2/14.1hh, mine since July 2011.
So this is maybe one of the most meaningful videos I've ever made. Me and Mac have a long story. When I got him, I couldn't even touch him. He was terrified and panicked all the time. I couldn't tie him up cause if I did he'd just hear until he was loose.
I could hardly get the saddle on him, and mounting him was a own chapter. When I got up after about 10 minutes he'd run out or rear. He was just so scared of everything.
I tried jumping him. And I could not even get him to walk over a pole lying on the ground. I couldn't ride him out in traffic, cause if I did he'd just rear up and spook.
It took me 7 months to pick up his feets. He just refused to let me lift them. It took me a month or two to saddle him up without him panicking. It took me 6 months to get him over tiny poles/fences. It took me 8 months to earn his trust.
After 4 months he started rearing up more often. I couldnt get him more than 3 steps forward before he started rearing and he just went higher and higher. He was kind of heardbound but mostly it was the fact that he was scared.
But I refused to give up on him, no matter how hard things was. Cause they was so damn hard. My own horse wouldn't let me come near him. He refused to trust me.
But I knew he had potential. I knew if we just got through this .. We'd be amazing.
And we did get through it. Hes finally trusting me. Hes a dream to handle. And to jump. He's simply enough the pony of my dreams .. But he haven't always been. You gotta take what you have and make it what you want it.
Look at us now. We're competing in 90 cm/3'0 and doing great. He's the most willing and lovely pony you'll ever come across. Because I didn't give up on him. And god only knows how thankful I am for that.

Look at that pony, he is the perfect example of people who will give problem horses a second shot! I have so much respect for people like you! Keep on the good work!
It's a known fact that the most difficult horses have the most to offer than any other. Wonderful turn around :)
Wow just wow this will show people that a horse is more than "just a horse" but that its a companion! :D
LOVED this video!! I have a similar project - an 11ish yo OTTB who was found in a mud pit last year. His old rider did well on him but he was just a rescue to her. He's not. After half a year of joyrides, he came to me. We're finally jumping over 2' and finally balanced. I love him & I ain't ever gonna give up on him. ;)
I admire you so much. I brought my pony when he was 5months old sick with pneumonia and strangles. He was going to be sold for slaughter until we bought him. After 5 years now he is an amazing jumping pony. I really look up to you for never giving up!
I just think he's adorable! Good job with him, brought tears to my eyes seeing as I have so many project horses.

I was so stunned to see his progress, I litterally pulled my head closer to my computer screen at 0:57 cause I couldn't believe it. You've got yourself a great horse, don't give up on yourself or on your horse. Your a wonderufl rider and dont let anybody tell you different
amazing i cried seeing him improve, i can honestly tell you, what you have done is incredible the horse too scared to jump turned out to love it all he need is someone to beleive in him, and you did you showed him no matter what happened hes got a new start, a chance to love, and heck even had some fun, never give up because the improvement with this little guy is incredible, hes 100% more happy hes like a different pony i really do love him and your just incredible :)

My pony had the exact same problem,nobody could get on him without him bolting its horrible.now after I gained trust he's a superstar you should be so proud of your achievement,great pony!

So inspirational! You are an amazing rider and you have no doubt saved that horse's life because most people wouldn't have been able to handle him. I wonder about his background and how he ended up so afraid of everything.

He is still a work in progress, but he has come a long way. It is a great feeling knowing that you could help a horse, your team mate come out of such a horrible state of mind, and have them actually enjoy the thing they were scared of the most. Not only that, but it proves that dedication is key!
the ones that put you through the most hell are the ones you'll love the most in the end, the bond that is forged in the fires of hell makes the strongest most powerful trust. keep it going.

Wow! I have a horse that used to be just like yours! (a young traumatized thoroughbred from the tracks) It's not easy, it takes time and a lot of patience.. but gosh it's so worth it!
This is very inspiring. BTW I love your horse. He looks very careful- which of course is a great thing when in jumpers (Nervous horses can turn out to be the best ones) :)

dedicated work and patience, he jumps nearly every jump with loads of confidence. Now, the only thing people really say about him is "he looks like he is having a great time!" He absolutely loves jumping now, and makes a fabulous jumper at that.
This video was just amazing, I love that I could relate to it. Honestly, I actually teared up watching it, but I know how amazing it feels to accomplish such a thing..

you have just inspired me just like......LOADS. Once a month my 13.2 new forest bomb's off with me (yes it doesn't sound bad but it really knocks my confidence) I have already put her in a jointed pelham bit and a martingale, her crazy little brain just turns once a month!

i looove this, i'm basically having the same issue with my horse. He used to have absolutely no confidence in himself, he would get aggressive when asked to do something he was not sure about, he would run out of nearly every jump and afterwards would make a huge fuss, bolting bucking and rearing when i brought him back in the direction of the jump. A lot of people disowned him, and thought he'd never change, that his issues were "genetic" and unfixable. But after a lot of hard,

Yes,sometimes it's hard.I bought my actually pony in November,she was 6,she was too strong and sometimes dangerous,she was scared by everything.She's a perfect jumper but five months ago we were a disaster,I didn't stop her,but now we're a great team,with hard work everything is possible. :D

This video is so inspiring! I feel like i can really relate to it, and it gives me confidence that what im doing holding on and perserveering will eventually work out in the end and i'll be able to look back and say the same as you. You two are amaaazing together, his jump is woah! You've done wonders with him, and i don't think he be doing aswell as he is now if you hadn't given up on him, as i think it takes a certain someone to see potential thats hidden behind fear/danger

wow u are a great rider, a rider is not only what how high he can jimp or how good he is in this its also how far he's gone with a horse u are a true rider u didint give up on him and u should be proud of yourself cause what ure horse is now is beautiful a nd i ca nsee u guys have a really strong bond and that's count. I ca nsee the potential that he has the jumping videos what i can assess from them when he jumps he jumps higher then the obstacle itslef he wants to jump higher he has potential
when owning a project horse its not teaching it how to do things, its just teaching it to be calm and to trust you, then any thing can be done.... : )

Well as he was a very unexperienced 4/5 year old when I got him .. I had to teach him alot too. Like to be in an outline, to jump, to hack without other horses, to gallop in the right stride ++
