Congratulations, Pops and Grandma!! Your travel life will change, but it's so much fun to take grandkids places. You see things through new eyes. Making memories ❤
We had a Gen-y for several years on our Solitude. Our F450 had a bed camera that could see the hitch. Buy a magnet with an extension rod that has a yellow ball that sits on the hitch ball. Amazon has them. Sit the magnet ball marker on the truck bed ball Lower the ball on magnet flag so you can see it when backing into the hitch. Another tip get some wide red reflection tape and put in straight down on gen-y Hitch so you can see where the round hitch cap is. You should be able to pick it on your bed camera and or on side mirrors when backing up trying to get center. Good luck we loved our gen-y.
If you had a Ford you could do like JD on Big Truck Big RV channel did and mount a side camera in the bid of his F450 to align his Goosebox on the ball.
Thanks for taking us thru this process. We are staying with our MORryde pin and slide hitch for now but definitely see the benefit of reclaiming the bed of the truck by using a GenY. Also, congrats on the grand baby!
Our Gen-y was a tight fit it took three of us to get it on but wow it was worth it. I like the paint pen trick, thanks for it. I put it on our Alliance 382 RK and on all of our trips so far all has been good in the camper no open drawers we even left the glass tray in the microwave!
I had them install mine at the dealership. I also added the extra bolts as well. It tows great. Something else to consider with a short bed is an offset for your ball. Congratulations on the grand baby! I became PaPa and the wife is Grandma to two twin granddaughters 2 years ago and it is the biggest blessing. God bless y’all.
@@mikewadams1 I haven’t had an issue yet with the short bed. Over the years, I have pulled countless goosenecks and cattle trailers with this same setup. I will say I was a little surprised that it did move the camper forward as much as it did. I should be ok with it just gotta pay a little more attention to backing up. We are excited to brand baby #1! Jarrett
@@vincew9482 Thank you. So far, so good. We put about 1200 miles on ours the last few days, and there have been no issues! It also seems to ride a little better.
If your old, be careful so you don’t drop your 🥜 Great PSA 😂 You said the words ball and nuts too many times in this video 😅 The match mark you made with you paint pen needs to extend past the washers onto the frame. The washer can also move, so you want one side of the mark to be on a surface that doesn’t move, like the frame. BTW, we have the Gen-Y Executive Gooseneck on our RiverStone. We have about 4k miles towing with it. It’s fantastic. Lining up to hitch up gets much easier 👍🏻
Another great video. A safety note if you don't mind. Val (or anyone) should never stand between truck and trailer when backing in to hook up. I'm sure you can imagine what "could" happen if a foot slipped off the brake. Safety first. Congrats on on being grand parents !!!
I put a white stripe on the GenY gooseneck hitch so I could line up when backing up . Also put a magnetic flag on top of ball . I could use bed camera to see when I’m on top of flag . Loved the GenY hitch.
This was a great video, and no cuss words recorded!! You touched on it briefly, does Venture Sportrek approve the Gen-Y? I will be interested in your review of the Gen-Y, most complaints I see is exactly what you experienced, got to be exact in hitching up. Congrats on grand baby to both of you! We have #9 coming in March and we are Papaw and Gomie. Have Fun!! Stay Safe!!
@ SportTrek does approve the Gen Y. They were super close when we got our trailer but not out of the beta process. Getting hitched up really isn't that big of a deal; you just have to relearn your marks. Most of the new trucks have cameras for the bed, which would make it way easier. We just put 1200 miles on our hitch with no issues, and I do think it rides a touch better!
The easiest way to line your hitch when backing up is go buy one of those pool noodles and slide it on the ball, that way you can see it in your rear view mirror when backing up
@@dannycruikshank2833 I have the same for my hitch on the back of my truck. I grew up on a farm, and we always used B&W. I can't tell you how many loads of hay or tractors on a goose I've pulled with this same setup. Thanks for watching! Jarrett
I use an extendable magnet with bright green handle and set it just behind ball (on the cab side) and use it to line myself up with hitch. Once done it collapses small and can place out of the way easily and a lot cheaper than camera set up.
So as you know like I had messaged you , we had it installed when the Brinkley arrived at the dealership, which is Blue Compass Spartanburg SC. We have watched multiple videos and researched the Gen Y and it seemed like it was a good option, also to allow space in the back of the bed of the truck. We will share more as we begin to venture out. ⛺️ Merry Christmas 🎄
@@joegreen636 I'm not sure about lowering the pin weight. I do run airbags, and the truck doesn't squat at all. I have a wireless-controlled compressor, which makes it nice for adjusting the ride going down the road.

Your explanation of other fifth wheel hitches in not correct at all, including your explanation of big rigs. They all have some type of jaws that will clamp around the kingpin to hold it securely. I think your confusing the fifth wheel plate, which yes will "pop" up as you say but that's because it is articulated to allow movement of the trailer. Inside that plate is a set of jaws that grab the pin itself. B&W doesn't have some revolutionary design, they are all locking jaws
