    It's so enlightening to see all these artists like Soundgarden come out and show their appreciation for RUSH!.

      It's crazy how a lot of the guys in the big Seattle bands of the 90s actually did have appreciation for Rush. At the time I never considered that this could have been the case. It wouldn't even surprise me anymore to find out that Kurt Cobain had been a closet fan, half of his band was pretty clearly into them.

    I met Kim on Long Island in , I think it was 1989. We saw Soundgarden, Faith No More and Voivod. A place called Sundance. After the gig it was pouring rain. And we were walking home. I was with two girls. It was raining so hard. So one of them knocked on the tour bus. And said let us in. And they did. We just hung out for about 10 minutes and talked. It stopped raining. And then we split. Nothing special. Still a good memory.

    From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
    This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
    RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
    With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary

    Thanks for posting this. Geddy has had an interesting life, for sure.
    I actually grew up in Park Forest, Kim's hometown.

    I wonder if Steve Shutt was aware of Geddy's success with Rush. I automatically assumed all Canadians, even Montreal Canadiens, were hip to the whole Rush thing.

      He later said in the conversation that they're still friends- so yes, I assume he is aware of his friend's success lol

      It doesn’t surprise me that not ALL Canadians are necessarily riding the RUSH train. That’s like where I live here in WV… we have the Davidson Brothers, and everyone acts as if it’s a sin to not like their music or to NOT support them… but all they are is top 40 sellout country. They sound just like all the others, except their singer / acoustic guitarist does a solo live… a solo where he makes chicken noises. I shit you not
      Those guys are nobody, as far as national and worldwide level goes. But people here buy into the whole “biscuits and chicken grease” themed nonsense that is about as intelligent as a block wall. Yet, a band like RUSH would go WAYYY over their heads leaving these fans in the daze not knowing what they just listened to

    The book was a quick read, the only thing I really came away with that I didn't know was that Geddy needs an AA meeting. Love of money and resentments for everyone - even Neil for wanting to retire - what a mess!

    • @MyVideos-fm7ug
      @MyVideos-fm7ug ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh??? Seriously? He says in the book he needs to join AA? I wouldn’t be surprised, actually. And that’s not saying anything bad about him. A lot of people get themselves mixed up with the bottle. And you say “love of money”… does he say that he’s addicted to money as well?

      @LauraLynch-p4h ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't sense that at all. I was shocked at the partying they all did especially in the late 70s and early 80s. But I don't think he's money hungry or resentful.

    • @MyVideos-fm7ug
      @MyVideos-fm7ug ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LauraLynch-p4h the being money hungry seems a bit out of character. haha… yeah, Geddy has really come out of his shell lately when it comes to revealing his wild side 😆 you can tell he LOVES talking about it too, plus you can tell he’s embraced his inner stoner self 😆
      Of course, while his mother was around, I would guess he didn’t talk much about that for the simple fact of the awkwardness of her, who he obviously loved and had too much respect for… it was probably a case of the less she knows, the better. And I totally get that 😆
      Although, I did read that she attended RUSH concerts all the time and would usually be seated around the sound booth, and would gladly take the joint if someone passed one to her 😆 she had a little bit of a wild streak in her herself. And who could blame her considering her history? And
