  • After Chris Davis suggested that Eric Shanteau go train with Eddie Reese, he went from an IM swimmer to a Breaststroke swimmer. At the age of 23 he changed his focus.
    Eric Shanteau worked with Brendan Hansen and Eddie Reese on two stroke changes in particular that really made all the difference. Shanteau went on to qualify for the Olympics in the 200 Breast (2008) and the 100 Breast (2012).
    Notice how Eric did not say it was easy...

    Breaststroke has reached the point where two people can swim the same event and look like they’re not even in the same sport

    Not exactly, Brett. Today the KICK is narrow and fast, not the out-sweep. I actually had this same head position debate with Staciana Stitts a couple years ago: it used to be pretty common to think you had to keep your head in line the whole time. Regarding dead spot, there are certain breaststrokers without it, but their peak velocities are lower. These breastrokers typically have a higher tempo and more fluid undulation.
