Not sure why they were there to begin with...no interaction with this Legend. How sad. I would have been up there dancing to his beautiful Blues Rock Voice!
I’m writing this in 2024. Is Frankie Miller still living? I know his career was cut short many years ago because of a brain hemorrhage. I’m in love with this man. I would love to meet him before he leaves this Earth.
I saw Frankie Miller open up for Bob Seger in 1986. He was great. I went out and bought everything I could find of his albums. I have most of the classic years..
I've always thought, if not for Frankie Miller, there would be no Bob Seger. I've loved them both my entire life and at the age of 70, it's been a long life.

RIP Chrissy Stewart who is the monster bass player in this and subsequent lineups of the Frankie Miller Band. Also played with Eire Apparent, Spooky Tooth, Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance as well as playing as a session-man on a stack of albums both in UK and USA. I met him a few times and he was a lovely guy, always happy to chat about music. The Belfast Telegraph reports that he passed away in mid-May 2020
Love Frankie’s pawky humour in the first minutes during the deafening silence! We Scots appreciate it but thinking the audience in Cologne weren’t English speakers at all… let alone understanding Frankie’s subtle digs!! Frankie is the bomb. 🏴🏴🏴🎤🎵
I can’t believe I’ve found this. He’s in the top end of my top 5. Full concert, excellent date ( at his prime) and hilarious patter with the saps in the audience!!! Best video I’ve found in years
Saw Frankie and full house band in 1976 London , he and they were superb..crowd was rockin'. Ray Minhinnit a real top player. Frankie can often be found at gigs by Quireboys..he was at their record launch in May this year and also at the fundraiser for Steve Simpson at the Half Moon Putney. Great memories of this brilliant voice 👏 👌
l thought there was no one there until l saw the audience. It was like a minutes silence for the whole concert. They were so privileged to see Frankie & his fantastic band. Completely different to the reaction Frankie or any singer or band would receive in Scotland🤗🥳👌
i will drink for that, too...if the GREAT rod stewart said that...anyway, frankie miller is one of the "heartest " singers...a very open and friendly artist, a good and dear friend to rory gallagher...and to me...
Every time I watch this, the audience makes me feel so embarrassed. Frankie is playing his heart out and they are so unresponsive. What a bloody shame! I'd give anything to have been there.

Germans are a completely different audience than we are used too, that doesn't mean they don't appreciate fantastic artists like Frankie, very strange though, it is as If he is alone!. Wonderful show though, they didn't know how lucky they were
The keyboard player, Jim Hall was a friend of mine, sadly he was murdered in Thailand where he was having a bar built. He was 57, and died Christmas eve 2005. Lovely to see this excellent footage, despite the subdued audience.
Imagine being lucky enough to have been there! I’d have been giving it Woo Hoo 💃🏽 His voice gives you goosebumps .. Tough crowd lol .. Frankie one of the best ♥️♥️♥️
Hurray!!! I had this concert on videotape, recorded it myself from the German television broadcast. Unfortunately the tape was swallowed and brused by the videorecorder so part of the concert was lost. So happy to find it back! The dead audience was common in those days at German Live music tv shows: the producers just let in a couple of hundred random young folks (not particular fans of the act that was recorded) who were ordered to be quiet, to behave and to applause when a song was finished.
I've still got it on video tape and 7 years ago I uploaded "The Rock" from that video recording. Then I found out that there was a Rockpalast 2 disc DVD available, with this concert and a live 1982 Loreley and a 1979 Wiesbaden live concert. It was pretty cheap at the time on Amazon in the UK, but seems unavailable at the moment. As for the audience yeah the audience is a bit embarrassing and all the early shows were like that ... I remember Ian Dury trying to coax a dead crowd and it was quite funny.
true harry, out of respect the audience kept silent.ordered too. hear frankie say anybody out there? full house tonight? and in those days the germans did not speak english very well.
It seems a damn shame that such a talented musician as this man would have to play for an audience that's been asked to keep quiet (what??) and who also may not understand English very well. Mr. Miller was certainly a good sport about it though. His voice is just heavenly!
Frankie was brilliant in that and so was the Scottish comedian Hector Nicol who played his grandfather, that classic line at the very end when we see there is no difference from the old boy to the new, nothing ever never changes
My favourite all time rock n blues soul singer last time seen him was at Ayr Simon Kirk's drumming Brian Robertson guitar went to gig at barrowlands tribute to the music of Frankie Scotland's finest
How odd that audience were! Frankie...they were lucky to get the chance to see you in person...I didn't. Very weird not to even answer...weirdos! Ignorant fools...Frankie's voice was incredible...a one off genius xx
Like tryna draw blood outta stone tryna get a word outta his audience. But fair play to Frankie for cutting through the unwelcoming silence. Love how he laughs it off with a bit of Craic and what a show. Legendary 😊
European audiences are appreciative in a quiet, polite way, the Japanese even more so. They prefer to listen silently with intent and interest. They're not there to go wild and crazy. Frankie misinterprets their quietness. He must have been used to more drunken bawdiness. And too many performers (and many more tourist travelers) tend to take for granted that everybody around the world speaks fluent English. They should realize that they themselves do not speak a second language, and not expect others to do so. Fine vocal performance from Frankie. What a sandpaper voice, ideal for blues and rock. He could have replaced Rod Stewart easily when he left The Faces, or Paul Rogers in Bad Company.
The German and many European countries are much more reserved on their response, yet are some of the biggest fans. I learned this touring there, but it’s a different experience, as in Scotland and Ireland half the crowd would have been on stage!!!! I think it goes back to the real classical days, when it was required to be silent.
Just thank god somebody made these films. Or would just a crying shame. All he did,,,,,,and now he s been left with almost nothing. Frankie you are a legend.
