A very nice breakdown of the Slash Les Paul Special II. I have mixed vibes on Slash's tone but it fits the 'dirty' rock style. I also like the tuner that is built into the binding around the bridge pickup. 👍
Thanks! I find myself picking this guitar up over the Harley Benton EX-84 at the moment. Nice to have different guitars for different moods 😅. I even felt brave enough to pick up my 7 string yesterday... Might do a review on that.
I had this guitar! It was a GREAT guitar. I recommend getting it setup. Its a flat top les paul. Not a "copy". Remember Epiphone is the only one allowed to put Les Paul on thier guitars. The pickups are awesome and crunchy.
Got mine brand new at guitar center when they first came out for $230... Its strange that the price for these has gone up significantly even though it's a "low end" guitar.
in canada in 2023 its 475 (not on sale) it was gibson montth at my shop i got it for 299 so more a less 240-350$ but its worth every penney such a beautiful guitar and it withstands heavyyyy playing i shred megadeth on this baby and it not only holds up but looks back at me like "thats all u got"?? hahaha
Switched to to keystone tuners Added a golden Les Trem Added a diagonal cream coloured stripe decal Looks like a beast for Jazz / Rock now So much fun modding this guitar, it's cheap but feels so good
@Nuttin But Music According to Epiphone, it's a AAA flame maple veneer. So, a very thin piece of maple on top of the body (the body is made of okoume wood).
I have one of these and it really is excellent value for money, looks great and sounds killer. I'd also consider a Harley benton as their price/value for money is also great. The tuner on the pick-up ring has stopped working and I've no idea where to get a replacement. Any of you have any ideas?
I have one that I bought when they first came out. It had a good sound, but for Christmas, my son bought me two Dimarzio super distortions. Well I knew where I was putting them. So they are in my Eoi now. I am in the process of a few other things I wanna do. Of course, locking tuners and thinking of putting on a Bigsby style bridge on it. Get that classic look on it.
Nice and comfy, never had issues on this one re the higher frets. Bolt on neck is good really, it's easy to work on as can be dettached to clean/work on frets etc if desired without risk of damaging the body area. I did a video which shows the difference when cleaning the fretboard here which you might find useful: th-cam.com/video/FBvFXsE0UHk/w-d-xo.html
very good Im gonna get one around 150€ here in france from second hand and I find it completes my set with my first EMG 81/ 85 upgraded guitar , so I can leave her to Drop D or C while I play Standard tuning on this Epiphone guitar only . thanks for reviewing that one
Hello I'm looking for my first electric guitar And les paul special II with player pack is just about my budget But I can stretch my budget a Lil more So can you tell me sir special II vs satin E1 vs Epiphone VE Which one will be the best ? Thanks
The Special II is a good beginner guitar. This 'Slash' version of the Special II is generally more expensive. I've not tested a VE or E1, but from what I understand they are very similar apart from the finish and the year of production. The important thing is that any guitar plays well, especially if you are just starting, so I would ask the shop or a guitar tech to set it up for you. It's easy to be put off playing if the string height is too high for example. I've done a separate review of the Special II here: th-cam.com/video/SyXrmIGuGi8/w-d-xo.html
I’m ordering this but I’m concerned as I heard the amp wasn’t good. So I was thinking of getting a separate amp. This would be my first guitar and curious to your thoughts ?
Definitely a nice first guitar! It's even good once you've been playing for a while. It's fun to play. The amp is not terrible from what I've heard, but I wish I had had some FX on my amp when I started playing. A bit of reverb for example can make an amp sound so much better. I reviewed a few of what I consider some of the best beginner cheap amps here: th-cam.com/video/4lVjKN-noow/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P4MxZT6D7jax2qU3
@@appetiteforguitar I’m definitely checking that video out now! Thank you again that’s very comforting to know I felt like the kit is so good for the price. Sorry to bombard you with questions but I’m a taller guy 6’5 and decently big hands do you think it would be issue with the comfort?
No worries, I'm happy to help. I wish someone had helped me more when I started... I could have saved years of messing about! I'm 6ft 5 too. The guitar is fine. The body surface is actually slightly bigger than my Gibson. I tried getting it in my Gibson case and it's a little too big to fit. The depth is thinner than my Gibson though, so it's relatively light, so good for standing up with. The pickups roar on this guitar if paired with the right amp. I rate it highly. Even against my Gibson. It's just a fun, inspiring guitar to play. You can see and hear me play it here too: th-cam.com/video/QOiPLqVa-cQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ipbBguFZcKfSUqcj
They are both really close in specs including having a bolt on neck. The LT has a slightly sleeker looking join at the neck. The overall finish is what sets them apart most - the Slash amber is quite loud looking. The LT finishes are a bit more subtle... Whichever you choose, they should hopefully both be fun to play. In my experience, I have had a great time playing this Slash model.
Hi! Nice video!! I’m pretty undecided between this and a ST-70 by Harley Benton. Though they are very different guitars as for a first time on an electric don’t know which one to pick. Any advise? Thanks
Thanks very much! Yes, they are quite different guitars. If you are just starting out I wouldn't overthink it too much - as long as you get a good guitar that is well made that is the key thing. There are lots of variables which can mean a cheap guitar plays terribly and will put you off. Both the Slash Epi here and the ST-70 are good guitars and should set you up for success in learning... in time if you carry on you'll likely end up like a lot of guitar players (me included!) who have various guitars depending on your mood. Now, having said that if you are on the fence about the two guitars, here are a few key things to consider: 1. Tone - the ST-70 is a 'Stratocaster' style guitar which means it is well suited to giving you Hendrix/Gilmour etc tones, whereas the Epi is good for heavy rock and metal (Slash/Zakk Wylde etc). The big difference is the pickups - the ST-70 has single coils whereas the Epi has humbuckers. This essentially means you can put a lot of gain on the Epi and you will get minimal background hum. You can expect some noise on the ST-70 if you want to play with a lot of gain. 2. Tremolo bar - the St-70 has one, the Epi doesn't, but again depending on the style you play it might not make any difference. If you're just starting out, a tremolo bar should be the last of your worries! It's an extra that many guitarists do without 3. Scale length - the ST-70 is 25.5 inches and the Epi is about 24.75 inches. A shorter scale length does mean the Epi is a bit easier to do string bends... So, that's just some of the key differences just by the nature of the type of guitar. I think if you're starting out you will hopefully enjoy either guitar. Any more queries on them, I'm happy to try and help. Keep rockin' :).
@@appetiteforguitar Thank you so much for this reply. I'll be getting for now the ST, but as you said we end up by getting a few extra ones "for the mood" ;) As the ST also has one humbucker it should be nice to find the diference to play the same guitar on it, and also on a single coil... Besides the sound on them both, the beauty... damn this EPI is beautiful :) Thank you so much. I'll be around! Rock on!!
In 6:48 you say that tuners are die-cast. I think they are covered. So no casted metal in them...normal gear and pot metal gearbox cup over them... no nut on the other side.
I think they're made by a company called Kmise from memory. I fit strap locks on all my guitars just to be on the safe side. These ones work well in my experience, I got them off amazon.
Tuner is handy for beginners. Ima returning players after 10 years. This is perfect for me. I had a gibson before and this is just as good. But my gibson washt thousands of pounds. Each to their own but this is a great guitar for the price
I got the pack … just love everything … the weight, the top, the zebras, the sound, the neck, the feel … except … I had to redo the electronic isolation, shorting all the time … and I couldn’t get the high strings in tone … because I received it, and only noticed when I changed the strings months later, that 1 of the neck screws was broken, it was holding on 3 screws … and thus my neck was kind of crooked … which caused the major intonation problem … Great guitar … but sh!t Chinese assembly … but I’m so attached to it … that I refused to send it back … and repaired it myself … 4 new stainless wood screws … new EVH strings … oiled the fretboard … and now I just can’t put it down … the intonation is now perfect … pity for the cr@ppy Chinese assembly !!!
The E1 is good for sure. I tried it the other day. The stand out was the slightly chunkier neck which was a surprise (a good one for me, I always prefer bigger necks). It's on my list to get one for review. Keep rockin'
They say its a good deal but i dont think it is there around 600 in canada and just the guitar is around 400. If it was 400 for all of it itd be ok. At the end of the day its a cheap guitar and amp with slash afd colors
Yeah that sounds pricey. Worth it if you can find a good deal, but $600 is really pushing it abit too far... It is a good guitar, but there are lots of options for that kind of money. I just got myself the full fat Anaconda burst Slash Epi to test and that wasn't much more money overall where I live (exc an amp). I always enjoy hunting for second hand bargains so that's an option.
The 'outfit' pack for $459 includes everything but the amp. The pickups seem to be better than the ones in the standard LP Special II for $279. Between those and the accessories it's not a bad buy, but if you're just after a guitar, buying used would likely be better, depending on what's available around you. I recently picked up a 2013 Epi LP Standard Plain Top for $449, for example. If you need everything in the package though, the Squier, Kramer, and other Epi packages are less expensive for sure.
If it can be found cheap it can be great - the pickups are surprisingly awesome on this thing + it's easy and fun to play. There are much much worse guitars out there...
