@@AlohaCoastJoinery it’s me again! 😂 can I ask how you suggest me overcoming my small boards getting snipe at the ends? I’ve only used it twice so far for my cutting boards and I can’t avoid this problem with the machine, just wanted to see if you had any solutions ? Many thanks.
@@1ThatChapCharlie hi Charles, always happy to help. The best way is to make a jig to avoid this. I am making one soon but will throw up a video to give the idea. The idea is if you have a larger flat surface under your work and ideally with a front and back at the same height as your work, then the snipe will occur on those scrap pieces and not your workpiece. Let me find an example...... other than that I have found that stepping down the depth very slightly each time causes much less snipe which is easier to sand out completely.
I don't have a table saw, but I'm looking at the Zipper again for things like chopping boards. What else could give a square cut edge? Could you not joint that edge on the Zipper, now that you have a reference edge? Out of interest, which table saw do you have here?
First of all. Thank you making a review on this maschine. I don't understand why you don't us the planer to plan a 90 degree angle onto your woods small side? Your Jig for the table saw is unneeded if you get the fence of the planer at 90 degree. With the planer you can come of with a block of wood with two parallel big sides and a 90 degree angle on one small side that will fit the fence of the table saw to straighten and parallel the second small side.
Good Video as always, Bought my zipper on the back of your first video about it, and i’m impressed with it (although it cost me more than I had hoped as I had to get better dust collection, much better dust collection.) dam noisy though only tool I wear ear defenders for (although I expect I should wear them more)
I really think we should all get used to wearing masks abs muffs the whole time. Hard in the summer when it’s so hot though. Glad you like it. Mine is now on a flip top bench as you might have seen. Space saving and works well. I’m making a second one but ran out of wood!
Good comments, thanks for sharing. I've been eyeing up the zipper machines recently (particularly the HB305, only machine I've seen with such a high capacity that isn't several thousand pounds!) which is how I've ended up at this video. It's not really my place to say this, but please do be careful not to let yourself get distracted when filming and forget about safety. Not just the eye protection, I noticed a couple other things as well: - Most importantly, when you go to joint the second edge on the table saw after removing your jig (around 9 min 25) you move the rip fence and it doesn't look like you locked it back down, looks like the fence drifts by a good 5-10mm as you're making the cut. Obviously this will affect the accuracy of the cut but is also a pretty major safety risk! - A more minor one, when you go to joint the ends of the board with the cross-cut sled (10 min 40) it doesn't seem like you turned your dust extractor on and your weren't wearing a dust mask. Not gonna kill you tomorrow but it's certainly not going to be doing your lungs any favours long term! As I say, I know it's not my place, and I don't mean to criticise, I would just hate to see someone get hurt or risk their health because they are trying to make informative videos for folks like me. All the best :)
Thank so much for taking the time to comment. You are more than welcome to comment or anything at anytime and your comments are duly noted. Worth noting that since wearing my mask my mysterious cough has disappeared! Cheers!
I'm thinking of getting one of these but one of criticisms of these lower end planer/thicknesser is that the table for the planer doesn't go up and down level and that the fence is not very rigid. What is your view?
Really good video thanks, I’ve been looking for a planer thicknesser for a while and looking at the slightly larger model. Do you think it’s better quality than the Erbauer and Titan brands? They all look of similar design but the zipper seems bit better quality from your review.
It would be unfair of me to comment on the others. I did my homework on the others while looking for mine. I believe my choice was a better choice but only as much as you can without comparing side by side. Others have done that. I think the one that is similar to mine is the Triton (not Titan) I think that one is similar to the Zipper. I’m sponsored by absolutely no one so although my opinion maybe incorrect, I believe my opinion to be correct. Those other brands I’m sure so a good job but I’m happy with my choice. Of course if you have the budget and you are going for then12 inch then Dewalt may well be the best choice for example. Hope that helps David and thanks so much for subscribing and watching.
@@AlohaCoastJoinery thanks for the reply, it was the 254mm version I was looking at. I wouldn’t use it a lot but will have another think before deciding.
Thanks for this great video. All my questions has been answered. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Germany
You are very welcome Torsten. Greetings from Cyprus!
i bought the same one as you about 3 wks ago , and so far its great.
Totally - it’s a great machine for the money
Glad you like it
Did you see yesterday’s upload?

How do you change between the two modes? How long does it take? Jointer/thicknesser
Hi Alex,
It’s one blade, so up top or underneath depending on mode.
@@AlohaCoastJoinery Sorry I meant, how long does it take? are there bolts etc to move? I'm thinking of jointing then thicknessing pieces.
It’s instant, just take the fence off to use the blade underneath. No time wasting.
So how do you use the planner, only my thicknesser blade turns
there is only one blade,

How would you square the table? Mine is off by a 1/4 inch
do you still have it ? it.s in good shape? thanks
I do. Its been in storage and is now out and ready to go to work. Look out for the return video March 2024.

It depends what you are using it for and the frequency of use. It could be sturdier but I have had no issues.

That’s the same as mine I believe. You can buy it blindly unless you prefer spending more than double :)
I just got this one today... it's not working :( It just won't run...
