I’m used to recording gaming videos and a part of me wants to branch out and try to step out of my comfort zone, truth be told - I really have horrible social anxiety, it takes me a little while for me to feel comfortable to speak with someone, along with being an introvert, extremely shy/quiet. And the idea of speaking to even one person gets my anxiety on a whole new level. But when I first started out recording, I was really bad lol, but reason was that I focused to much on the negative aspects and never rewarded myself to doing something beyond my comfort zone. After many videos later, I managed to change myself, but then I became interested in streaming and to be honest, just by thinking about it really gets my heart accelerating, I really want to try but at the same time, fear is keeping me back. This really helped me out, Boogie! This somehow gave me a little bit of a boost of courage to try streaming and hope I don’t embarrass myself xd

Id say the most important thing here is audience engagement. You want to build an audience, so when you have it; even if it's only 10 people, take care of it. Most of the time streaming can be frustrating when starting up but believe me, if there's a right time to stream it is now!

Boogie, thank you. I'm saving up money for a decent setup. Video games are my passion. I watch so many streamers and face-palm at the lack of skill and entertainment from most streamers. I know I can do a much better job than most. I've always thought about diving in to Twitch since I watched Kripparrian and Krippi get world-first hardcore inferno Diablo kill live. The idea of Twitch just blew my mind. It's such a silly idea, but it works and it FEELS SO GOOD! Hanging out with friends in Discord on raid nights is fun and all, but damn, Twitch is a dream come true. My only concern is that I may neglect my girlfriend to the point of straining my relationship with her, but I've been telling her that I want to do this, and I've showed her how it all works, and I think we're on the same page and now it's time to save up money and take the first step. 😊

The "engaging the audience" thing..I can NOT agree more! This is the number 1 best way to go about things. Take it from me. I got 10 followers from 2 streams. TWO STREAM!. And literally started my life as a streamer LAST WEEKEND (9/3-9/4, and posting this on 9/12)! Not many people can say they pulled in 10 followers in a week. But it only happened because I make sure to have a popout window on chat so that I can clearly see what's being posted so I can try to talk to as many of them as possible.

One of the things with streaming that always end up getting me down, is my time schedule. I also like to fine-tune things on TH-cam and the live-ness of Twitch is difficult for my perfectionism.
I'm only ever available from 12am-6am EST. It feels like I'm walking into an empty room, haha. People in the US are dead asleep and the UK'smen are just waking up.
I really want to pick up a following, though. I'll try to do it and pick up some friends, haha. I really do appreciate the tips.

For first timers, I would recommend NOT streaming at the highest quality possible, even if they can easily achieve it. A huge amount of viewers have bad internet and can barely watch 720p (2800 bitrate/buffer) and higher. I would recommend first timers run 720p streams at 2000 bitrate/buffer or lower it to 480p standard. Draws in and keeps people around if there is no pause buffering every few seconds to those with bad internet when viewing.

For anyone who's wondering, the Blue Yeti is a great _starter_ microphone. It's a simple USB mic that works and sounds great for a hundred bucks. But it's not really recommended for much more than casual use. Great for streaming, vlogging, etc. But if you plan on doing professional recording for voice over work/voice acting or anything music related, it may not be the quality you want it to be.

How to get started on TwitchTV. Don't........they're playback of non-partnered streams is from one server which is lack luster so your viewers suffer. Support for non-partnered streams is nonexistent and not to mention there's upwards of 30 to 60 seconds of delay between the streamer and his viewers making it difficult to interact with your audience live.
I highly recommend to everyone getting into streaming to check out beam.pro, streamup, or hitbox. Those sites are newer, support is superb and the latency between streamer and viewers is minimal. Yes those sites currently lack as many total viewers as twitch but time and persistence will change that.
Hit me up with any questions.
and by the way, my small business (UbuTech, LLC) helps streamers setup their streams all the time. whether it's for external capture of the xbox one or ps4 OR you pc, i can assist with the setup easily. I use video conferencing and remote administration to accomplish this for people. I have testimonials if anyone is curious.

Hey man, first time I've heard or seen you, found this video searching about Twitch set up. I watched a few similar videos but yours is by far the best! Everyone else seems so over the top - they're so loud, basically yelling the entire time, as if they're feigning excitement and I couldn't watch. You speak very well, very easy to listen to, you're not attacking the viewers.
So thank you for this video! I've subscribed and will now check out your other work and definitely yourTwitch too! Thanks again.

I can never understand the desire to watch others play games. Yeah I watch a few videos on how the game plays and watch a few review videos to see if I should spend my money on buying the game and that's it. It seems like a waste of time to me. Why watch someone else while you can play yourself?

Well for one thing, there's an audience for everything, especially on the internet. Second is because it's a fun way to find people to talk and communities to join. It's... kind of like an internet transition of being in a room with someone and watching em play a game while yabbering away. But to each their own.

You can make graphics, overlays and even do addons with it. It is the most customizable streaming application. It does take a little bit of learning, but It only took me about an hour to get the hang of it.

Great vid but I still got some really important concerns. At the moment I'm on Nutrition Assistance which basically gives me 50 bucks a week to eat off of, which is just barely enough with prices these days. So is there a way I could stream off Twitch without profit first to see how many viewers & subs I got? That way I could calculate approximately how much I would for sure be making before I canceled my State Aid as I can't have any form of income while on it.

No matter how much equipment and how good the stream looks, it always come down to on how popular you are from before.
Like TH-cam or other social media.
I'm not big on either parts though I have pretty great equipment to stream with. The stream looks pretty awesome and of course, sounds great too! But I rearly get any viewers at all when streaming because of people haven't heard of me before.. and I've been streaming since JTV (Justin.tv. the days before Twitch).

The reason you get a ton of viewers on Twitch is because of your TH-cam following.

Step 1: Pick a unique type of stream to do. (If you have no original ideas, skip Step 2).
Step 2: Try streaming and realize it isn't going to pan out the way you hoped.
Step 3: Go out and try to get a realistic job.

The rage in the comments is unreal. Did it help him to have a following on TH-cam before he streamed? Of course. But the same goes with anything else out there. Most importantly: It does not disprove his helpful tips here. Practice and time are the main two things you need. Skill is helpful, personality is helpful, but even if all you did was stream gameplay footage without a mic or even replying back to viewers you could still grow if you played the right games long enough. To just say "well he's popular, of course he gets views!" is cheap. Stream for two hours a day, every other day. You'll get followers. Stream popular trending games and stream them often? You'll grow even faster. It's not rocket surgery, folks.

Good advice for people starting out! Nothing too complicated and definitely a common advice, for me personally I make sure to stream in the best quality I can at 60FPS. I use OBS because it's free and offers better everything within it.
I come across time and time again that you NEED to interact with your chat, I use the text chat to talk to them, at first I had people ask me why I don't use mic but now people just like my choice of not using voice

I use a Sennheiser MK-4 studio mics and Sennheiser HD477 headsets fed to and from a Mackie 802-VLZ3 Mixer. I do have a POS i5 PC for HDMI capture and twitch push, My main PC is a high end i7 with a 4-way titan black video system, Internet is fiber optic business grade. I can stream at 1080p all day but I purposely turn it down to 720p.
OBS is crap for recording, but great for twitch pushing for some games. Not all games allow a 3rd party streaming software also.
A camera is also optional, I don't use one yet because all the ones I have looked at were pure crap but it does not effect my audience numbers at all.
What you need is a good PC, not a laptop or a cheap wal-mart special, A respectable internet connection, A good video card (look to spend over $400 there), and possibly a decent PC and a good HDMI capture card in it. Your game play PC need AT LEAST 16Gb of high speed ram if you want to actually have a stream worth watching. I'm running 64 Gb in mine..

today i got 5 followers in 1 streaming section. Almost to 300 followers and i feel great for that. But you just have to keep going and enjoying what you do. Like boogie said, you have to have fun and love what you doing to be better.

Boogie! Thank you for this. I've only been streaming for two months but this is exactly what I love to hear. At the end of the day we all love to play games, and streaming what you like to play shouldn't change who you are when the camera is on, because like you said...someone will enjoy you for who YOU are. Thank you for continuing to be such a positive influence in the gaming community and motivating people like myself who are just starting to keep pushing, I wish you the best!

    To get big on twitch:
Find a game you are really good at, don't play anything except that. Stick to 1 game so that you are always in the same place, get a schedule so it's always at the same time. Shill the fuck out of that 1 game until you get partnered and then play whatever you want

The average person generally will never be known on twitch or TH-cam. Either attractive girls playing over saturated "epsports" titles, or people with obnoxious personalities yelling at fake twitch raids are the only ones that will get known. Or be popular from somewhere else and just move your audience around.

Awesome video dude! Helped a lot. I've just started myself and got myself an elgato 60HD pro, a blue yeti mic and a c920 webcam. I'm still working out the kinks and realising that I'll probably need an arm stand for my mic to get it as close to me as possible and stop all the background noise outside my room. Also, I did my first stream today and got 6 viewers, my only problem was I couldn't get my audio working

Thanks *****! Helpful tips to keep in mind for sure! i started getting things and equipment together about a month ago and my stream feels like it does well. anytime i have a viewer or 2 i seem to get a follower. I love the engaging advice....i think it's crazy important to acknowledge people asking questions and help them build the community around you. I have been following your streams for a few months now and the youtube channel several months more. Super like the way you approach gaming and wanting to make a smarter consumer gaming community. I very much want to echo that as well.....in times that companies seem to be taking advantage of our wallets, i want to see a smarter community of gamers asking for more out of the initial full game purchase rather than buying a 60 dollar game to look forward to paying more for DLC.
I'm betting you get this question all the time.....but wondered if you'd like to follow me sometime and see what my stream is cooking up. If you'd like (or anyone reading this for that matter) come buy and check out TheMortski on twitch and soon to be TH-cam channel. Thank you and keep up the awesome!

You are sort of an exception. Not that you aren't made for streaming on twitch BUT you already had a huge following on TH-cam. I just don't know that your advice is really relevant to the general population. You personally can walk on to any social media site and have a huge following already because of TH-cam. You definitely did earn your following, without a doubt, but when you went to twitch, its not the same as every average Joe getting famous on twitch. Its just the way it is. Not everyone can be a famous twitch personality or else there would be no one watching it.
