I think my biggest retcon problem was that at the end of the series it was Tahu that had to don the golden armor and distract Makuta Teridax and not...you know....THE TOA OF LIGHT WHO WAS CREATED SPECIFICALLY TO BEAT HIM! In fact I feel like Takanuva was really shafted altogether after the Mask of Light movie/storyline and that they really built up this Toa of Light who was destined to beat Makuta...just to have him kinda beat him in a football game and then go travel through other universes to keep him busy. Hell he even had a set in Stars that wasnt his original colors even though it was said that he should have reverted back to white and gold, and that the legendary armor that would give a toa immense power to stop the rahkshi wasnt for him....but for Tahu, who had to be reverted back to a normal Toa just to use it. It would have been SO MUCH cooler to have the Toa of Light teaming up with Mata Nui himself to beat Makuta, but no he just kinda hung out and grabbed a piece of the armor for Tahu and then...idk sat next to his crab or all the other non-relevent Toa while Tahu did all the work. That and this may not be a "retcon" but I wasnt a big fan of everything getting basically the same body type starting with Ignition. Two piece body, 3 piece arms and legs with all the same armor on it. The early toa and even the villains like the Bohrok and the Rahkshi all had similar bodies but they looked intricate and had cool design choices. And oh my god I got so tired of the gimmick weapons that they kept making up to give everything a "play feature". Literally everything in 2005 had a spinner, from the toa to the rahaga to the visorak to even the titans and then basically everything had to have a gun or some kind of launcher up until 2008 instead of having cool or interesting weapon designs. Mahri Kongu didnt even have interesting weapons, just two guns! And the worst offenders were the Toa Nuva when they got the Mistika and Phantoka sets. There was like little to no attempt to even make them seem like the original toa nuva we knew and loved. Gali and Onua just had little add-ons to their guns it was so frustrating!
Oh yeah, hard agree on how Takanuva was shafted so egregiously. If it helps, he was apparently supposed to play a pivotal role in the conflict between the Great Beings and the former MU inhabitants.
I agree with the first point. But honestly, I really don't think pre-piraka builds were all that great. The clone set situation was actually worse in those early days. The mata and metru torso pieces are also basically just 1 or 2 big pieces as well (not counting the gear function stuff), but they are way more restrictive in what you can do with them. Sure, they have a gear function, but that took away most of arm posability. Ironically, G2 pretty much gave us the perfect marriage between gear function and articulation. Unfortunately, it tanked. In one thing I agree with the second point tho. The piraka/inika build really sucked for the mistika sets. Like, I still liked the makutas' insectoid look, but the toa were truly awful.
Takanuva was planned to play a much bigger role going foreword, even after the toy line was cancelled it was going to continue as a story serial with Greg helming it, sadly Lego changed their mind later on leaving a lot of stuff in the air. Greg has confirmed though that Takanuva was going to play a pivotal role in the coming story, since it was slowly leading to a "war" with the great beings and Velika. Takanuva's destiny was going to have something to do with that story line..."sigh" what could have been.
The makuta species name had to do with the bigger picture. Makuta symbolizing a tumor in the great spirit's body. I personally think that they switched from brown to orange for marketing reasons. Brighter colours appeal more to children. 2005 was very important to the story, the arc was written either way, whether it was being filmed or not. Roodaka was a key component in Makuta's master plan. And i agree with that movie being the best one in the trilogy.
Fun fact: Most of the time the team who was designing the toys did not know the characters that they were making or how they were going to be used in the story.
I still think some form of romance exists in the Matoran Universe - obviously there’s no physical component, and they may not even experience romantic attraction in the same way that we define it, but I still think that at least some Matoran Universe inhabitants could experience those feelings and formed relationships that weren’t purely platonic. I’m glad romance never really played a role in the story, but I think it was silly and unnecessary for Greg to try to retcon that… especially since he alluded to romance several times in the novels HE wrote. I think that Greg should've said something like "matoran are unable to reproduce (biological? physical?)" instead dumbing it down to "love is not canon (emotional)" I know Templar and Miramax had more creativity when telling the story with their stuff, but it's my headcanon that matoran can still feel romantic attraction.
From what I heard the Makuta can not be resurrected by the Red Star because of them being made out of a certain material in the story. But yeah the no love thing is a retcon that I did not like either.
A tip to prevent retcons in your story: foreshadow later events earlier in your story, complete it 100% before publishing, don't deviate from your original vision and don't make unnesessary sequels. That is unless you're a company and all you care about is making money.
The red star actually only revives species made of protodermis it cant revive the characters that are disintegrated,obliterate,absorbed or heavily damage beyonf repair and character died of head injuries so nikila,all of makuta cept miserix are dead forever
Actually in the novels (which predate the movies and comics) of the metru nui arc, Matau and Onewa are generally jerks to Vakama. Half the time it was over a mistake Vakama made in judgement (some not his fault, others to say he messed up is an understatement). If you think what Matau said blowing up at Vakama after the mutation incident was bad what he said to him in the novel was worse. I will say Matau's anger was genuinely warranted considering the full context of how they ended up in that situation that movies straight up cuts out.
At 3:22 my headcannon is that there's a God named Makuta. And Taridax was was a follower of the species's namesake. Kinda like the Transformers with Unicron and Primus

When Pohatu wondered about Takanuvas shadow transformation, Takanuva replies that Pohatu also looked quite unrecognizable with orange. My theory for Pohatu's color change is that kids either just don't like brown or they associate it with poop, so it doesn't sell as well. Could be a similar reason with Subterra Bakugan. But tbh i kind of like orange Pohatu.
I also think Web of Shadows was best. Honestly it has good charasteristic of Vakama. He went through good character developement and those doubts and then understanding entire purpose of Toa.

The Red Star doesn't work like that. Firstly it can only revive a being that's body and mind are intact. As such characters like Matoro can not be revived since both his body and mind were used up by the Ignika. It has also been confirmed that Makuta Can't be revived by the Red Star. Neither can Rahi and a good number of other species. The Red star was in story made to revive beings that are essential to the function of the G.S.R. such as Matoran and Toa, since the Matoran are what keep the Robot alive and the Toa protect the Matoran. It has also been made clear that due to damage caused by the Great Cataclysm aka Mata Nui crashing into Aqua Magna that the Star has lost it's teleportation function, so the Kestora on the star can revive beings but they are unable to return them to the G.S.R. It also serves the purpose of a type of Gravitational launch platform, tethering to the G.S.R and flinging it into space to allow it to exit a planets atmosphere. As for the love thing, I do think that they can feel love but it's different to what we consider love. There would really be no need for beings that don't reproduce to need to feel that sort of connection. So I do think that they feel something similar to love but not 100% love as humans feel it. As for asking Greg to confirm something...Yeah sadly that's probably not going to happen anymore since he hasn't worked for Lego since July 2022. So unfortunately the official info we have is as much as we are going to get.

I’m not a fan of love being canon, Hewkii looks like a vulnerable goofball like a lower class steltian and macku is manipulating him, but I’m glad during the reign of shadows serials their character growth made them not feeling in love each other hewkii cares too much of his duties as a warrior and macku cares too much of helping others and assembling the chroniclers company even if kopeke is the current chronicler. As for the red star resurrecting the dead, lhikan is alive up there and if we get a story where ahkmou gets his vengeance on the toa, he might have a reason to invade the red star and bring Lhikan to the six Turaga and destroy the star after that, I would have liked to see the Turaga’s reaction to see Lhikan alive cuz his death forced Vakama’s hand to kill Teridax out of hatred, that’s why they prophesied the Toa to defeat him by murder to even with Lhikan’s and now it was all for nothing

Because this "-a" ending seemed feminine to me, not masculine etc. (I am Polish, and in Polish, feminine nouns and adjectives usually end with "-a". Conversely, if a Polish noun or adjective ends with "-a", it is most likely feminine. OK, there are exceptions , but)." is a better name for this particular character than "Makuta". Why?
