This was one of the more memorable Memorial Cup Final’s. London was insane that year, and Schremp looked every bit of that sure fire can’t miss top prospect. It’s too bad his defensive game didn’t mature. Might’ve been a decade too soon, I think he would’ve played in today’s NHL. Even Hunter looked solid. You watch back and Crosby really was a man on an island and it’s a remarkable feat that he willed that Oceanic team as far as he did. Pouliot and Desjardins sniffed the NHL, but the rest of that team was weak. You watch sports for the stories too, and if the Oceanic were a little more disciplined out of the gate that night this might’ve been a tighter game. They got away from a lot of the things that made them successful all season on that day. Scalzo was a turnover machine that night and he had a pretty decent tourney.
I moved from Toronto to London right before the start of the OHL playoffs in 2005 and I remember the electric atmosphere in the city before during and after the Memorial Cup
London had a massive advantage in this Memorial Cup being the host team. They knew all the angles and bounces of Budweiser Gardens (or the John Labatt Centre as it was known in 2005)
