It's been commonly theorized to the point that everyone assumes so that Windfall was once Kakariko Village before Hyrule flooded. Reasons being how close it is to Dragon Roost Island which is seen as Death Mountain, the windmill and the theme of Windfall is a sped up (I think remixed if I remember right) version of Kakariko's theme. Always made sense to me because of these reasons. Later on the Encyclopedia would confirm Windfall Island is Kakariko Village (though it also says Zora's Domain is Dragon Roost Island).

I would have assumed that kakariko would be by fire isle or dragon roost or it would be the kakriko from a different game. It just looks good connected to windfall like that
@@firionkaiser8291 Zora's Domain I can kind of see since the Rito came from the Zoras. (I think the Gods changed them so they wouldn't swim to Hyrule) Zora's Domain was right next to death mountain in OoT, but it certainly wasn't on the mountain. Wonder if it was a mistranslation

Though the map used for this project and my novel for instance, though not canon, we know Zora's Domain did exist thanks to Laruto. I always assumed the domain wasn't high enough so they fled to Death Mountain where the Gorons live. It may be mistranslation though the book also stated that Death Mountain is Fire Island in Wind Waker (Fire Mountain in the map used in the unflooded hyrule map). Of course this is all fan interpretation so it's debatable.

I was not expecting something so complex, this is straight genius😊 Outset Island and Windfall Island captivated me the most and I love how you used the idea that Windfall was once apart of Kakariko Village💕

I've always thought about what the temples looked like under the water since it's implied in the games that they are on the peaks of mountains. This is a super cool project!
Seeing this makes me realize that WW definitely should've had larger islands. It could've also really used Great Fish Isle being intact with a dungeon, both for game pacing reasons and to have another hub area (like Castle Town and Kakariko in OoT and TP).
@@-liomus-8197 It's an even bigger shame since the Great Fish dungeon probably would've been the Water one, and with how water works in Wind Waker it would've been the first instance of a 2d-style water dungeon in a 3d Zelda game.
The guy who created the map this overworld to be is actually based on admitted that he took some inspirations from BotW when he made it so you'll see why it does resemble BotW. He's a really chill guy, he even let me use his map as a basis for my Hero of the Flood novel that I've been working on since 2018. I think he does Zelda theories now.
I love the idea of Kakariko being under windfall... My only gripe is that it's so close to the surface of the ocean. I would imagine it should be closer in depth to Hyrule Castle is. And based on the cut scene of Link traveling to the castle for the first time, it seems much deeper.
the tower of the gods is above hyrule castle but doesn't touch the surface, clearly windwaker got it wrong as well. I always thought that the ocean in WW was just a barrier anyway and not as deep as indicated by the floating under the water cutscene.
I had the same thought, but sometimes the grapple hook will find ground within a second of using it so I get the impression that the Great Sea isn't very deep.
@@HzizsVynryn well it needs to be pretty deep at least in most of it in order for large vessels like the pirate ship to even be able to traverse it without running aground. The fact there's as many "mountain peaks" in Hyrule that would make wind wakers topography possible implies that the gods also threw a metric fuck ton of plate tectonic movement/earthquakes at them as well, because most of these locales are far removed from their original locations or at much too high an elevation. The sunken Hyrule theory would've been proven long ago even by just casual divers and swimmers in this scenario. Also, we even get a cutscene showing just how far beneath the surface most of Hyrule is.
Imagine if someone made this model into a full fledged rom hack for WW. New Quests, story, animations, dungeons, puzzles, etc. I'd play the heck out of that.
Seeing my favorite game of all time transformed like this is so amazing. Kakariko under windfall is SO sick (though it makes death mountain being dragon roost impossible but I digress). I'm loving this project and I'd love to be able to one day play a romhack using these versions of the islands. Keep up the great work!!
Hadn't heard of this project before, and guessed from the title that this would be a Boundary Break type video. Pleasantly surprised! This looks awesome and I am excited to see more developments.

I clicked on this thinking it was just going to be something relatively simple, like just deleting the water so you can see what little is actually beneath it in-game. This is so cool!
I imagine that some parts of the old Hyrule must have been a bit more visible after all that space of Hyrule castle and Ganon’s fortress got flooded. Like, that definitely would’ve lowered the sea level at least a little.

As someone who has WWHD as their favorite game of all time, I absolutely love what you've done here! I've always wondered how islands like Greatfish Isle look like before the flood. Angular Isles in particular because it's where the Great Fairies and Salvage Corps. were born despite being incredibly small

Kakariko is a mountain village so it makes sense to not be too deep.

I always assumed the gods terraformed the land to have high enough peaks to sustain human civilization during the flood

It still can. Wind Waker’s map is bigger than OoTs so it makes sense that things are different.
First I saw the water going down, then I saw the land coming up. Optical illusions are great.
