My horse was barefoot for 3-4 years after she had laminitis. I didn't dare to shoe her again, but she got bruises under her hoofs because of the hard ground, and the boots (like shoes that you put on when you ride and so on) always leaked in when it was muddy, and it is always muddy in Sweden lol. But now she has had shoes on for almost 2 years! A tip for your barefoot horses and donkeys is to have a filer at home so you can file their hoofes and also Caspers if he gets a splinter or something, it is something that has worked so well for me, especially in the summer when her hoofes grow like crazy :)
