Inspired by the poem "Roll The Pumpkin" written about me by my late father Allen Afterman, when I was very very young - this intense percussion composition touches the helpless stream/scream of a man trying to face the absolute and uncompromising silence of death.
Recorded at Shoham studios by Shahar Kaufman.

I've been listening to more videos like this again of late. It takes me back to the days when I played daf and riqq for a bellydance troupe. I'd have the daf rested on my lap, doing the bass tones, then I'd switch to the riq to do the lighter parts.Boy do I miss it. I hope that one of the troupes that are still around finally take me on. They've been talking on and off about that. It's such beatufuil msuic, and I feel like I was born to it. When I first got a riq in my hand, I thougth "this is my instrument!" Egyptian and middle eastern percussion in general is something I just adore :)

This is absolutely incredible. I was thinking of taking up these instruments before and when I saw this, I was instantly hooked. One question...what is that low, booming drum keeping time? That's one of my favorite parts of this.
