My mother became a Type1 at age 50 and lived until she was 95. She said the reason she had so many wrinkles was because she took better care of her feet than her face! Thanks for the road trip ideas for food. Will try them out if we ever get out of lockdown!
OH! Wow! Your mother sounds like quite the amazing woman - to be diagnosed that late in life and live such a long life!! I bet she was a beauty too - I love wrinkles - it shows a life roadmap! Something to cherish! Glad you liked the road trip suggestions - I hope that helps you! Also veggies, hard boiled eggs, nuts and seeds, and any of those low carb snacks (can you tell I need to snack a lot when I'm on my road trips 🤣) Big love to you and thank you so so much for your question, as always and ever, you're the best!!

Wow!!! That's amazing, and inspiring. I was diagnosed type one last November AR 51. It's been a crazy year. Just found this channel a few days ago. I have honestly got better coping information here than from my doctor.
I was diagnosed with T 1D at 55 years old, seven months ago and I am not sure how I would have made it thought without your videos and diabetic Danica videos. That being said thank you for all the help you have giving from my pump choice to food choices. But I am learning the most is not to be ashamed by my condition, I had no ideal how many people, my self included thought of diabetes as a fat problem, I had no idea it was a auto immune disease. When I first had high blood sugar I though just exercise lose weight and all will be well, that was not the case, and I felt like I failed myself I could not get my super super high A1C under control then I was hit over the head with T1D well it’s been a hard 7 months but I am coming to grips with it a large part do to you. Thanks
Hii Andrea Love you my doll ,My daughter is also T1D She was diagnosed at the age of 3 yrs Now she is 7 yrs old ,Sometimes I feel very sad bcz this disease is critical as well as depressing Her HbA1c is always less than 6 now I always watch your videos for motivation God bless you my doll
You are just so lovely about the HbA1c numbers. I’m 40 years plus T1D and am suffering extreme burnout right now, and my numbers are really hard to take right now. Thank you again x
I want to say a huge thank you to you. I’ve been diabetic for the last 22 years. You made me decide to switch to something else than fingerpricking. I tried Freestyle Libre 2 since October last year but it’s a cost and finally, the hospital called me yesterday that they ordered a Dexcom G6 for me it’s already there. It will be perfect and I’ll have my glucose results on my watch. I won’t need to pay anymore for that. I’m so excited ! I’ll collect it tomorrow. I wouldn’t be here without your videos.
Oh. My. Goodness!! I am SO excited for you!!! Your words also mean the absolute world to me - I must say that too. I really hope the Dexcom is everything you want and need it to be and more - it's been SUCH a game changer in my life, I wish the same for you. I just can't quite express just how happy I am for you my friend!!! Let me know how it goes!!!
You my dear , are so ADORABLE and so PRETTY. I really love your channel. It’s so helpful for me to help my little nephew who has Type 1 Diabetes. Thank you!!
Hi all... I was diagnosed as TID at 56. I have not had a high A1C since I was dagnosed, but it is everyday a challenge. Stay strong and know that your body will do want it wants. Being kind to ourselves helps. My big meal is supper.
Hi Andrea! I'm a high schooler and I was just diagnosed with T1D 3 weeks ago. Since then, I've watched all of your videos and they have helped me so much! Thank you so much for everything you do and helping me feel less alone. You're such an amazing and inspiring person, please continue doing what you do! Also, when I left the hospital my doctors didn't mention anything about subtracting fiber content from carb content when bolusing, but as I've done my own research I've seen a lot of people talk about it. Do you always subtract all fiber from your carb count, or only half of the fiber count (I've seen people say both)? Thank you so much!
This is great information. Just found your channel a few days ago. Will be watching more videos and am subscribed. Being I was diagnosed Nov 30th last year diabetic. After 2 days in ICU, found out it was type one. TH-cam diabetic channels have been so much help. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
You’re such a warm, and encouraging person, I love your videos! I’m due to start on mealtime insulin next week, (have only been on basal for for the past few years), and am very nervous of miscalculating and ending up low, I guess it will just be a case of trial and error for a while! 😬
Thank you so much Sarah! I totally understand your nervousness but I just really want you to know that you'll be okay! It will be trial and error I'm sure, but soon enough you'll get to grips with it and you'll be great!! Keep low treatments to hand, just in case and for your peace of mind too. You are not alone - you've got this my lovely friend!! 💙
I was happy to hear how you deal with pizza. And pre-bolus 15 minutes before and the 50%-50% works quite well for me. Where the carbs are in pizza is the crust so thin crust is my go to choice. Being you are in the US for however long would it be possible for you to get the Control IQ feature added to your Tandem pump? If you love, love, love, basal IQ you will need to add a few more of those loves when you get Control IQ.
Yes - pizza bolus buddies! I did indeed get the Control IQ feature!!! OH MY GOODNESS I AM IN LOVE INDEED!!! Love x100000!!! It's quite simply a GAME CHANGER!!!
Hi, Andrea! Thanks for your video, it's super interesting! I was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago but I am still trying to figure out how to best manage my diabetes. So the q&a was super helpful!
Thankyou Andrea, Aways good to see your encouraging video's. Especially helping those who are just starting on this journey, I had a very difficult first year .My GP knew very about type 1, and in my first 2weeks before seeing my specialist , he just said just don't have any sugar, and I just kept going to work. And thank you for showing the glucose levels on screen in mmol/L as well, as the other numbers make no sense to me. Hope you are feeling much better after your vaccine. 🙏❤
"How do you bolus for Pizza?" This should be on a T-shirt!!! Always a crap shoot for me, I usually bolus too much. Maybe when I do that, I eat less pizza... and around and around I go. Great idea on the "extened Bolus" I will try... Thanks for so many good gems that you give out, often not as the main subject of your video. Your experience, mistakes, trials, and win's have helped me so much. Keep up the great work.
Yes!! The Pizza Crapshoot! It's a classic! 😂 Thank you so so much for your kind words! It's comments like yours that truly inspire me to make more content - I really thank you so much for taking the time to type this kindness out!!! Wishing you wonderful week ahead - and perhaps, dare I say it - the perfect pizza bolus?! OH! IF ONLY!!!
Enjoy your vids. I’m T1 and have been in an extended honey moon phase, have been regulating BG with diet no insulin for five years. I just started my basil insulin and will soon be bolusing. Your content has really helped my transition into all this. Thanks from a fellow actor!
Oh you are so so welcome! And thank you for all your kind words! I wish you all the very very best in your transition and hope you're able to make it all go relatively smoothly (as smoothly as diabetes will allow, of course!) Joy and lucky and happiness - from your fellow diabuddy and actor indeed!
This content is very useful Andrea. I found the answers to many questions I was curious about in this video. Thank you so so much. Happy, healthy days to you... See you.
I was just recently diagnosed and it’s been super hard! I literally don’t know another T1 diabetic. My mom was type 2, and lots of friends that are T2. But I honestly lost it this past week. I’m so tired of trying to figure out my numbers and lower my numbers and then adjusting and readjusting. Trips to the dr every two weeks. I had a meltdown. It’s been rough.
I’m also diagnosed at 34 last December after having my second child 😫 I feel like I cannot cope and I feel like giving up. This is so not me! I cannot cope I feel like this is a bad dream 😔
Oh my friend, Mona, I am so so so so so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine having to look after kids when I was first diagnosed!! Please know you are not alone and things will get easier. I'm sure this is all extremely overwhelming right now and there's nothing I can say to take it all away (though I wish I could). I do have a video on my channel about burnout, which could maybe be helpful. But just know, things will get better and you're right at the beginning of everything and this is THE ABSOLUTE HARDEST time. What you're feeling is completely normal and things will get better!! 💙💙💙
I'm at about 6 months in, on my diagnosis, and understand how you might feel (but I'm not a woman, and see there's special challenges, especially while having young children). Give yourself permission to feel sad, overwhelmed, or whatever. It took me 3 1/2 months to find a "diabetic team"- an accessible endocrinologist, nutritionist, and certified diabetic trainer. I hope you have those resources. I don't have any great words of wisdom for you, but know you're not alone! There's days when I feel overwhelmed and full of anxiety, especially when I'm spiking very high, or trending very low. I highly recommend meditation apps that focus on breathing exercises. This has alleviated my anxiety. My kids are "almost grown," so I don't have the stress of caring for young children, so can only imagine your challenges. Hang in there.
Hi Andrea! Thanks again for the Q&A! I finally started on the t-slim x2 with control IQ and I love it. Just had my first site change yesterday. Go Blue!!
Thank you so much Rex, for watching and commenting!! I'm so glad you are loving your Tslim x2 with Control iQ!!!! Isn't it just THE BEST?!? I'm just working on my review video for it now - hopefully will have this out this Sunday - though you don't need a review video - your in it, and can probably tell me some stuff about it!! I hope your first site change went well! Go Blue! Though my fiancee would kill me for saying that so I should probably say Go Green! 😂
Another great video! Thanks for sharing again! As type 1 diabetics we are more likely to have other autoimmune diseases, many people avoid certains "trigger" foods. Personally I don't feel well eating dairy products. What do you think? Do you have any food sensitivities?
OMG I have such a sensitive tum! I can't eat too much veg or my stomach basically explodes, I don't do dairy, because again, explosion, no gluten for me because of celiac, and to top it all off I have an under active thyroid as well! Living the autoimmune dream 😂!!
Hello Andrea 🤗 I’m doing my Best to eat a little less animal Fat, these days. January (2021). I asked my Endo Dr & if Animal Fat can spike my BG? He told me ‘No, animal fat will not spike your BG’ (Current not feeling a strong connection to my Endo currently🤔. I’ve had T1D for close to 37 years this Summer 2021.Spaghetti Squash has been my New PastaYummy🍽 Thank you for doing these Helpful Videos❤️
It was on a Michelle Lord video where she linked your 5 Tips for Surviving the Holidays video that I discovered you 😁 Still waiting for a diagnosis story storytime & a ”Timeline & Review of t:slimx2” 😁😁😁
Can you make a video on how you do the different bolos for your pump. I have one and didn’t know you could do that. Also any other good ideas about the pump.
Since making this video I'm on the Tslim pump and it does a lot of things automatically with being linked to the Dexcom G6, so I'm not sure I'd be the best person to make a video on the topic you've suggested, but let me do a little more looking into it all and try to come up with something because I think it's a great idea, I just want to make sure I'm doing the best thing possible especially from my own experience in what I do on a day to day basis, if that makes sense! Basically - I'll try my best, sorry I'm so talkative!!! Gah!!! Thank you so much for the suggestion!!! 💙💙💙
I too am on the tslim pump and love it but I feel I'm not using all the features it offers. Was hoping you could help those of us who are just getting it use it more effective and show us the ropes of it. Thank you for your videos they have been really helpful in the day and life of this T2D.
The Diabetes M APP allows me to do Extended bolus's and you can program in multiple insulin sensitivities and insulin to carb ratios. It's like having a pump without the pump.
I don’t necessarily think mentioning HbA1c goals and ranges is a bad thing. I feel that HbA1c is an important measure to identify your blood sugar range and control. Before my strict approach regarding carbohydrates my HbA1c range between 6-7% a “good range” per the medical authorities. The thing was I always felt tired and sick. Non diabetics adults that are healthy never range above 5%. The scary thing was that after 20 years of diabetes I started to feel the complications. My eGFR was dropping lower and lower and had eye problems. After changing my diet and approach I been under 5.0% for about 3 years now. My eGFR is back at 100 and my eyes healed. I think HbA1c is an important metric for not success but overall wellness and longevity. All diabetics ranges should be the same as non diabetic
Wow - thank you so much for sharing your experience here!! I'm SO glad to hear of your success in reversing health complications and for achieving such excellent control - WOW! Absolutely amazing!!! I'd love to know what you do to achieve such tight control - I'd never be able to achieve that I feel like!!!
@@ShesDiabetic The 4 key components to achieve that type of control are: 1. Low carbohydrate diet, by that I mean no more than 12g a day and only carbs from fibrous sources as vegetables, seeds and nuts. No bread or fruit allowed. 2. Usage of true physiological insulin levels if you are not overweight or obese (insulin resistant) your true basal requirement follows this formula 0.2u per kilogram of weight. I weight 82 kg my proposed insulin requirement is 82 (0.2u) = 16.4u, I take 17 units. Continuing with insulin all my meals are covered with R insulin (regular or crystalline insulin) depending on where you live. 3. Consistency I try to eat around the same time and the same portions (protein and carbs). Example my dinner is 8oz of protein (chicken) plus a large side salad (12g of carb) that needs 6u of R insulin. I would eat for the next day I may eat 8oz of steak plus 12g of CHO from asparagus and cauliflower. 4. Micro hyperglycemic corrections if I go over 100 mg/dl I would take 0.5u of Fiasp, half a unit for every 35 I am over. In that note the highest I been in 2 years was 201 mg/dl and due to illness, with this kind of food is really really hard to go super high!
@@pickledrick5158 wow! The tips you mentioned are impressive. Is it okay to use regular + fiasp in the same day? I asked my endo for this combo but he said NO but i gp high over 400mg/dl or 300
@Science__2024nerd The endo likely assumes you would be eating high carbohydrate foods in which case he/she will be 100% correct. I probably wouldn't use it or mix it. Say I take 3 units of R for steak, plus 2 units of Fiasp for a potato. That would likely cause you to either go high or low. Don't ever mix insulins either, one shot for R and one shot for Fiasp. The insulin combines and now you have something that acts like R but may have properties of Fiasp. It may last 5 hours in your blood while acting unusually fast. I use them on the same day, sometimes R for meals and Fiasp for corrections. If you can catch a 120 or 140 quickly before it gets higher it's much better for you overall.
You can be careful and test it yourself. Eat small meals and dose for it. If you make a mistake it would be a small mistake and you can fix it. Once you get familiar with how your body works increase the meal size and dose. Definitely try to undershoot your dose by 75% say take 3 units instead of the normal 4 and see what happens. That way you can limit lows while not going crazy high.
I’m not a Dexcom advocate and personally use the Libre but I’m switching from MDI to the Tandem pump so I’m also switching to the Dexcom. Sounds like Abbott is working with Tandem so the Libre 2 will work with Tandem. Excited for Dexcom 7 and Libre 3 which will be half the size of the current ones.
Hi Andrea... it's me! Your friendly neighborhood retired cop :--) I just got my first t:slmi X2 and find this doggone on button driving me mad. The silver button on the side that you use to turn it on/off, quick bolus etc. It seems like 90% of the time I have to push it a 2nd, 3rd or 14th time. Grrrrrr. Do you find that button to be difficult too? Any6 tips? (plz have a tip, plz plz plz - I'm going nuts) - Keep on keeping on girlfriend! Jim
Are you going to do a tslim control iq review? I would be very interested as I’ve been using mine for about a month now and have some very interesting results!
Yes, I absolutely am! I'll have my review video of the pump out this Sunday (all things going well!) and then a separate Control iQ review soon thereafter! It's a VERY interesting (and in my mind impressive!) system!!
@@ShesDiabetic fantastic, can’t wait! 😀 I went from a Medtronic 640g with a pretty poop sensor that was never accurate to a wonderful and always accurate Dexcom G6! I like the system but myself and some other patients that I know of at the hospital have been having a few problems with the control IQ algorithm being a bit too aggressive, so looking forward to your thoughts!
Haha! No pizza bolus for me. I have celiac disease and GF pizza just doesn’t do it!! I’ve always been particular about my feet. I lotion twice a day and am never barefoot.
I'm celiac as well! It's honestly been so long since I've had regular pizza I now idealize the gluten free kind!! Scary! haha! Lotion on teh feet - yes!! I do that on my shins too because they get a little dry from time to time! Thank you for remind me and all of us here Alice!! 💙🙏🏻
@@ShesDiabetic I don't have Celiac's, but there are several suspicions that Hashimoto's (which I do have) is also influenced by gluten in some people, so I try to minimize it as well. And, I don't really recall much of a difference in taste between gluten free bread and regular bread. May be a local thing though. How's GF pizza?
@@ShesDiabetic just found your channel. You are lovely. freschetta had a really good gluten free pizza, it’s not healthy but it’s gluten free. Papa johns has an amazingggg one
I just stop eating pizza it’s to hard. I did find a pizza on Amazon that is a cauliflower crust pizza three carbs. Waiting on it to come in the mail. I have made a cauliflower pizza as well it’s just a lot of work to put together. Let the saga continues😄
OH the pizza saga is so so so real - isn't it!!! Please let me know how your cauliflower pizza tastes/does to your levels! We shall wait with bated breath!!! 🍕 🙏🏻
Can't wait for your tslim review. You were saying you used basal iq but it sounded more like you are using control iq. My son would like to try control iq but is afraid to since you can not reverse and go back to basal if you don't like control. He is afraid it will bolus when he was trying to go higher in order to exercise or something. Plus he hates alarms and doesn't want more reasons for it to alarm.
Target average A1C for Type 1 diabetes is below 7%, just saying, no shame in that! Thanks for sharing your experience. I have to agree shoes are so important!
I wonder if there is any one after Diagnose in honymoon phase had increase in the weight? Bezause I had increasing in my weight around 7-8 kg 🥺 and I dont know how to lose them with diabets
Oh my oh my - this means so much!! But you know what I always say? If you've found me, that means your searching something out, you've taken the time, you've put in the effort, and therefore - it's you first - and if I come after well then I am very very very lucky!!! BUT YOU ARE 🥇!!!
If you are diabetic and still eating sugar carbs fruits and pizza you should be ashamed of yourself not only harming yourself but the Ones who loves you as well

Very nice Q ,A thanks for your time.🇺🇸
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!! 🇺🇸
I started at A1C of 11. Now it is 7.1. Tell him it will go down. It takes time
Another great video! Thanks for sharing again! As type 1 diabetics we are more likely to have other autoimmune diseases, many people avoid certains "trigger" foods. Personally I don't feel well eating dairy products. What do you think? Do you have any food sensitivities?
I have type 1, celiac disease and vitiligo. I feel like dairy has not been my friend lately 😕
@@alice_rabbit8345 Interesting combination. Hashimoto's seems to be the most common with T1D. Which order did they show up?
OMG I have such a sensitive tum! I can't eat too much veg or my stomach basically explodes, I don't do dairy, because again, explosion, no gluten for me because of celiac, and to top it all off I have an under active thyroid as well! Living the autoimmune dream 😂!!
Come sempre utile confrontarsi e soprattutto tu così simpatica e gentile. 👍👋
It was on a Michelle Lord video where she linked your 5 Tips for Surviving the Holidays video

i love this video sm!! how you split up the questions really helps us
Oh thank you thank you thank you!!! 🙏 🥰 💙
@@ShesDiabetic The 4 key components to achieve that type of control are:
Hi Andrea!Great video and very inspirational 💙(i wanted to ask how old were you when you are diagnosed with t1d?)
Andrea thankyou
You are so very welcome!!!
4:26………😱😱😱😱😱5 units is the most you’ve taken for a meal????
Dang
I think mine is 15
Just goes to show - we're all different!! Neither is better or worse, just different! :)
That will be really exciting indeed! I'm really up for all collaborations always because it gives us as diabetics more choice - win win win win win!!
My favorite lowcarb snack is a peanut butter sandwich
YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM!! You've now made me hungry!! 😋
You mentioned working on set, what do you do for a living? It sounds interesting
I'm an actor :)
She sings too
Target average A1C for Type 1 diabetes is below 7%, just saying, no shame in that! Thanks for sharing your experience.
I have to agree shoes are so important!
Yes and Yes!! No shame in that whatsoever!! Thank you so much for echoing these sentiments and thank you for watching! 💙🙏🏻
I wonder if there is any one after Diagnose in honymoon phase had increase in the weight? Bezause I had increasing in my weight around 7-8 kg 🥺 and I dont know how to lose them with diabets
My motivation is you
Oh my oh my - this means so much!! But you know what I always say? If you've found me, that means your searching something out, you've taken the time, you've put in the effort, and therefore - it's you first - and if I come after well then I am very very very lucky!!! BUT YOU ARE 🥇!!!
Do you wear a medical ID? I haven't seen one and if this has been discussed, I have missed it.
I do off and on - I have a bracelet from Poppy Medical - but I go off and on with regards to wearing it - I should probably be better about that!! 😬
According to my specialists, each slice of pizza has about 35 g., that has worked for me... Just FYI
Great info!! Very helpful to have indeed, thank you for sharing this with us here! 🙏🏻
@@ShesDiabetic I'm glad I could help, you have helped me a lot when I'm not doing very well!
the Vietnamese are masters of veggie wraps.
I do love a veggie wrap!
Double check your links, you did link to Michelle but not where you intended to.
I tried g7 my # were lol over I went back to g6
I'm so sorry to hear this - that sucks!! Did you contact Dexcom to tell this? I'm just so sorry that's the worst!!
Hello from PH
Speaking of your birthday, when is your birthday?
We love pizza!
I'm ashamed that you're not with me Drea.
good your vido hlap far hime thinks
You're so welcome!
An advice
Don't talk again about diabetics or anything related to diabetes .
If you are diabetic and still eating sugar carbs fruits and pizza you should be ashamed of yourself not only harming yourself but the Ones who loves you as well
May I ask…where do this feeling/thought come from?
