I've always felt like this song is the entirety of the essence of Finnish metal captured in one song. Like a magnum opus of not only Jari, but an entire people.
this is my favorite Wintersun song. Jari is a mad genius. a normal song would have around 150-200 instrument tracks, this song has over 1600. for years, Jari did not have a powerful enough computer to render and mix this song and so the Time 1 album was released around 9 years after the debut album, and the entire metal world is still waiting for Time 2.
I just found Wintersun. Feel paralysed in a positive whay when I hear them. Goosebumps. Tearing up. Joy. Pumped up. Full hearted. And more. Greetings from germany. 🤘🔥♥️ ps: Love your words at the end of every vid. Thanks
This band makes the kind of music that sticks with you for the rest of your life. I'd never heard anything like it the first time I experienced them and it ignited a spark I've kept going to this day. The world needs more music like this, so I put everything I had to give into this behemoth of a track, and I'm still proud of it 2 years later. If you have a craving for more extreme symphonic metal, hopefully you find this enjoyable! th-cam.com/video/rE7j4vEzSE4/w-d-xo.html PS: Teemu (the other guitarist) has another band called Smackbound, which is also very worth checking out!
Here's a secret: Watch the live version of *"The Way Of The Fire"* in Hollywood 2013. It's going to be on Time II (if it ever comes out) and even though it's not studio quality it has been my favorite Wintersun song for years already.
Thank you for this. Love what you had to say at the end. Wintersun really goes hard in this song but it also has these spaces where the composition has almost like a chance to breathe and it does it make it like a magical journey when you are listening to it. I'm so pleased you decided to listen to this band. There is SO much good music out there - hard to keep up lol. Big love to you also :)
Been a fan of Wintersun since the original release in 2004 and stuck with the band through it all. What makes me love Wintersun so much is how it somehow manage to reach into my most deepest emotions. It makes me so happy to see your reactions to this music that is so dear to me, and I truly hope you will listen to some of the songs from the first album. And I am expecting reactions to Time II when it comes out, which is just a few months away!
Hello, there I like what you said. Jari is a mastermind and deserves to be heard. His music takes me so long from the daily matters. I´m glad you´re here and react the way you do. Greets from Finland. Take care.
14:55 when I listen to this song in particular I feel like I'm soaring through the universe among the stars in incredible speeds. Also I agree with you that this so much more than just a music. Most bands make songs, but Wintersun is like music squared. Truly next level. Especially for this song, it's a full album worth of music condensed in one track, literally. If you look up the video "Sons of Winter and Stars Project Demonstraton" Parts 1 and 2, you'll see what I mean.
"watching a movie, reading a book", I was thinking "unrolling a reindeer skin and reading the rune-like characters scribed into it with a native-iron blade. ... or something similar. For me, the most stunning part is the drop into the Kai-less, acoustic-tinged, Jack Skeleton-styled near-acapella section in the middle. Ladies and Germs, boys and grills, that is how you write a change of pace.
I really like these vids of them in the studio. It gave me a whole new level of respect for Kai. And Jari's clean voice (well, with a bit of distortion) pierces right through my heart. Another freaking banger! The second half has that brothers in arms from long ago type of feel. I really like it! Yep, adding this one to my playlist as well.
Thank you for reacting to this master piece! For me this is song about breaking from winter to spring. I know the lyrics are not about it, but this is my springsong😊
Kai's drumming here is killer, he has a playthrough video on YT as well, Jukka on Bass is now in Nightwish with Kai, I cannot wait to hear what Tuomas writes for Jukka to play on the next album, Jari is the main writer in Wintersun and goes somewhat OTT with what he writes, Like most people I cannot wait to hear Time 2 but still no sign of it. The Forest Seasons is a great album to just play straight through when you are doing something that does not take much thought. Big Love
I saw them live many years ago, this was in munich(ger), i think. they act as special tour guests exclusive at that gig and on maybe 2 other locations. Other bands that played there were Arkona (ru) and Finntroll(fi). I never heard of arkona that time before, but they catched me realy fast, because i like black/ pagan/ folk metal. The song setup from finntroll didn't hook me up, because they played only cover songs there. I was a little sad about that because theire own music is realy great, especially live at smaller clubs. To Wintersun: in my opinion it's rare to catch them live. Experiencing their music live is magical, but something else that stayed with me: technical problems. The band had a small laptop at that time through which all the backing tracks were running, and it just wouldn't work properly. Fortunately, they were still able to play, and it was simply great. There was also an interruption once because a song fell out of rhythm. Jari, being a perfectionist, then had the song started over. In the room, there was a kind of feeling that everyone knew how damn hard these songs are to play and how much heart is in them. All the problems were accepted, and everyone soaked up the atmosphere as the songs began to take effect on you. All in all, a beautiful and interesting memory. Lastly, a question for all of you: do you know the feeling, when you listen to Wintersun for a while, that you become mentally drained? The sheer complexity and mass of notes that impact my brain feel like a hard workout. Very soothing, but completely exhausting.

Great reaction! I agree, their compositions, arrangements, musicianship, melodies are all amazing, top notch!
I made the mistake, or not mistake depending on how you look at it, of reading about their history and discovering all the crowdfunding and money they have gotten from fans without delivering what they have promised. Reading about it all was like reading about a pyramid scheme master swindling money from people and coming up with endless excuses for why the second part of the Time album can't be released. It just left a real sour taste in my mouth.
Music = excellent
Business model = borderline sociopathic
I know I might get some hate from this but I regret doing my research and I advise you don't dive into it like I did. It spoiled my view of the band, which is a shame.
I had no idea, They have such a following. Lets hope one day they can make up for the situation.
I’m not trying to start a fight buuuuuut ….we have your drummer and bassist Wintersun!☠️
Think anyone would notice if they swapped Emppu for just one song?

Wild right?
Fking love it!
Awesome song! Someone get Kai some water.
How do you even...
If Tuomas Holopainen is Metal Mozart then Jari must be Salieri
Also, the guitar god Teemu is overshadowed by Jari, here is small clip of him

At one point of my musical journey, I would of been considered an Elitist. This 'would of been' is sooooo wrooooong. fix it, dude.

You love Wintersun, I promise you'll love Wilderun - Means to Preserve, or The Garden of Fire. (they have a lot of newer songs but these two don't get enough credit)
