    been using this for seven months or so. Love it. Very versatile for the kind of music I make. Love how easy it was to just dive into it and start working since the design is very intuitive. Good review!

    hey bro. I just wanted to let you know that I´ve been a huge fan of your channel for quite some time now. and you´ve just inspired me to buy the bass station 2. I think it´s the best analog synth in my price range.
    keep up the reviews and the good work :) greetings from germany

    Depends on what you're looking for MT is nice as well, I like how flexible the Bass station 2 is though. I'm partial to the MT just because it's very simple in what it does, where this is not just bass but also leads and fx.@Mr Petty

    Great review and demo. I had this synth for a few months but recently had to get rid of it as well as a few other things for financial reasons. IMO its the best out of the current entry level analog monos. I liked the Minibrute a lot too, but the patch storage on this and sequencer just give it the clear advantage. It's a great time to be into hardware for sure tho

    • @SoundsAndGear
      @SoundsAndGear  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I feel ya, I wish it was built a bit more sturdy, those wheels bother me lol. But sound wise I really dig it, definitely a good piece to have and very flexible in sound.

  • @mattsynth
    @mattsynth 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Now that is what I would call a modern day full featured analog synth. Plenty of OSC, midi, sequencer and the best of all patch storage. I will have to look into this one. Nice demo, thanks.

      No problem, thanks for watching. There's plenty of options around for synths all depends on your flavor preferences, it's definitely a cool synth :)

    I had the original bass station keyboard, and the bass station rack, and just got the new bass station 2 today.. its great. Can do all the old ones could and a lot more, and it just had a price drop in shops here in Europe so was almost same price as a micro brute. For me i guess it just has a very familiar sound that i really like. I always liked the original more then the SH-101, but felt like the SH-101 had more features, but now with this version 2 with all the extra features its a perfect little mono synth in my taste.

      @johnnyparker2128 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      DjRybeTV Well, finding sounds in NI is faster now with the Komplete software and keyboard. I was so impressed with the integration between the software, keyboard, and Maschine Studio that I sold my Bass Station II.

      Johnny Parker Glad you like it, I'm the opposite, felt like it wasn't integrated enough. Now the new Akai keyboards seems to be a little better in terms of browsing for sounds from plugins.

    @itsinmynamechap metal would have been great, even more keys and bring some of the functions to their own knobs. However for the price it's definitely nice, I don't mind the paint/color personally.

    Thanks for that great review with sound previews! I have a question about todays synth market. at 9:13 you mentioned about having to pickup the value of the knobs by tweaking after setting a patch. Im so glad you brought it up! Is there a synth (analog, modeling, digital, any kind with patches built-in) in the market that has lights around knobs(like apc40mk2:) that instantly sets the values of that patch?

    did you just record all those parts individually onto a time tracking into software on your computer free hand. anime hentia tracks being played back from your computer software or do this thing have a sequence on it ? hope I don't sound stupid Rodgers been using hardware I might be a little out of date I got all hardware equipment. so if anyone can help me out On this was done please do. thank you!

    • @SoundsAndGear
      @SoundsAndGear  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recorded the audio into the Maschine software running on my computer, the Novation doesn't have an audio sequencer.

    • @D-O-Double-G
      @D-O-Double-G 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      okay thank you my player.
      look I do R&B and hip hop my studio consist of, MPC 2000 XL I have the effects board all the memory ,but I don't have the 8out or a flashcard Drive I use to zip steel usb port, Triton classic with the moss synthesizer bored in it and all the memory, a Korg ms2000 synthesizer, Roland XP 30 , Dr 660 for when I need a crazy little sounds I go in there and whip it up and then sample it, I track everything to a Roland VS 1680 and roland DS 90 digital monitor , MKG 3000 B condenser microphone, Behringer to pre amp, danger patch bay, Behringer headphone monitors Bay and a little cheap onyx or something turntable. I been one track at a time. I know you thinking his whole studio is outdated but I bought everything brand new when it first came out and that was about over $15,000 back then. all the equipment has been more than well never smoke around never went a night uncovered unless it was put back in its original box. which I have just pulled everything out of its original box in the last year or so, it was packed away for some years for matters which I could not control ,which also got me behind time in technology. all the equipment I got I know fluently and it is still full and making beats with them, every piece still look like brand new without a scratch on it so I can't see selling them for a couple of pennies. MPC 2000xl may not be the MPC 5000, but together with the triton I could get just about everything done that bet a 5000 can do and neither one of them ever had a crash issue , plus the Triton sampler is a monster I use that when I want to use mute group on samples to cut each other off and I can trigger it all with the MPC 2000xl. the Roland VS 1680 was okay for is generation, I know I have to switch to a computer for editing purposes. I'm going to be spending about $5000 on a Macbook, machine studio or mpc Renaissance, and some software. but I also want to be able to record my hardware on track with in the software to WITH AND without using MIDI. like I do with the Roland VS 1680. so I'm sorry about how long THIS WAS but I wanted to explain everything clearly to yo! if you have any input that can help me with my upgrade it would be highly appreciated thank you...

      @SoundsAndGear  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D-O-Double-G I feel you fam, I had a similar setup! Maschine and the Ren are both more like samplers than DAWs, so they don't work like the Roland, you'd want something more like Studio One, Ableton Live, etc, as they handle audio in a more linear fashion, which is how it seems you want to record. That said, I record a lot of external audio and I use Maschine, I just treat them as samples on a pad and trigger them in my sequence.

    Im new to synths, not sure whether to go for the mininova or bass satation, I want to use it live and it to be programmable to get ideas down, any thoughts?

    • @SoundsAndGear
      @SoundsAndGear  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zak Jones Both are programmable, bass station is mono, mininova is poly, bass station is analog and mininova is digital. Both are nice, mininova has mini keys also. Mininova has some built in performance controls with the pad triggers and such, so just depends on the sound and how much variety you want. If you want to play bass, leads as well as pads and other poly sounds, then checkout the mininova.

    • @davidholmes3776
      @davidholmes3776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Anthony Hernandez I'd go with the mininova as a first synth over the bass station.
      Mininova's feature set is pretty incredible for the price (and that vocoder!!) and it sounds great!
      Only reason I've elected for the BS2 is that sonically it'll be a good fit with my other gear (Maschine, Circuit, ER-1) and the mininova synth engine is very similar to a piece I already have (Circuit)

    • @davidholmes3776
      @davidholmes3776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Anthony Hernandez I'll warn you that hardware is a slippery slope financially though... One synth is never enough... And I can't even look at drum machines without nearly going through divorce court!
      I'm lusting after a Roland R8 at the moment - wife'll kill me!

    • @davidholmes3776
      @davidholmes3776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Anthony Hernandez You should consider a groovebox man. I bought myself a Novation Circuit for Christmas and it's a lot of fun; 2 synths and a 4-part drum machine in one little box!
      Or the Korg Electribe-II if you want more depth...
      Or try pick up an old Yamaha AN200 for cheap.

    I thought of a bass station but never heard one sound coming off it that I would consider to use somewhere. I just don't like the sound of it, which is sad regarding the amount of features you get for the money.

    • @SoundsAndGear
      @SoundsAndGear  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      justwitti It's not sad, there's no problem if you don't like it, definitely not for everyone. As with anything, it's all about the sound you want. Don't feel bad for not digging it man, there's lots of synths that I don't get with sound wise. Thanks for the comment!

      SoundsAndGear.com Also note that BS2 has 2 DCO's and the Brutes have 1 VCO. Both have sub oscillators. Also dat steiner-parker filter, brute factor, metalizer and supersaw. Best advice I can give is to do your research, they're certainly different beasts, both sound great but it's really up to your personal taste and needs.
