You’d be venturing into Jupiter/moog one/oberheim OXA legendary historic category if they did it right. Tons of voices, more modulation and customization options… the vocoder with a life of its own… maybe add in a few euro rack spots, but without making it feel like another semi modular.
There’s no way they’re not having this conversation.

It’s nice to ditch a DAW and go hardware only, but mixing and mastering a song is likely going to be done in one eventually, plus there are tons of great features and benefits in Ableton, so I’ve gone the Hybrid route and couldn’t be happier.

Probably a mix of tactile feel of using controls rather than a M&K, and just being easier to click on and start playing immediately rather than starting computer, opening software, setting up the VSTs, etc etc.
Just depends on preferences, even "old tech" like Mechanical watches manage to stick around even with Digital watches and smart watches all over.
I also personally find my computer too distracting as there are too many things I might end up doing instead of making sounds/music, whereas I grab my Microfreak and a recorder and just go jam for a bit away from the computer without issue

Cool video David! Your channel exploded like the frog 🐸itself 😉- Kudos!
Some things to add for your viewers and perhaps yourself:
The ability to change the routing for the delay and reverb are a very nice option with send/insert for those two. Be sure - if you find some time - to have a look at the keyboard source parameter as this is one of the most powerful features of this synth and can save up some LFO's for other purposes f.e. (Keyb+Src) - Easy accessible via sound+edit + a strike of a key. You now can have random/voice/s-curve as signals to change for example the tuning. A very nice options to create more analog sounds for example.

I wish they made it somehow easy to marry the two mini and micro freak, even the plugin having a micro option if you want to go micro on the computer. I am going to get the plugin version, but I play it along with the microfreak I already own, layering them both. I almost feel like they are so similar but so different technically, its like the minifreak doesnt want anything to do with the microfreak. I feel like they have brushed the microfreak aside and it makes me a bit sad, but I guess their focus is to sell minifreaks now. On a side note, I also own a Polybrute, and having a plugin version to control your hardware is the best thing ever. It is tempting to get the minifreak just for this reason (but also I wish they did for the microfreak).

I'm literally about 2 weeks into discovering synthesis/ers but wondering in theory could you string a couple more LFOs together in such a way to make the pitch modulation just ever so slightly variable and randomised in terms of frequency and amplitude? I'm looking for my first synth live looping. I want to be able to hold long pads and manually sweep through filters. I've thought about the freak family, but I've also considered something from the brute line. One seems to offer simplicity and the other flexibility. I don't want to be limited to a one trick pony, but I'm a novice and I'm intimidated by the menus. I'd love to get some thoughts from anyone willing to offer them?

I saw today there is a demo for the virtual minifreak, see if you can get that to run it should be similar to the hardware. Easy to get into but even the microfreak is an iceberg of a synthesizer.

@@Jimmyknapp2 Thanks for the heads up. My fear is that I would get a sound I like and then never be able to find it again because I touched something that jacked up the whole synth.

The preset sounds like an early 1970s TV logo, PBS P-head for example.

Do you think it’s worth getting the hardware if you have the vst? I mean I do prefer hardware in general

the struggle is real! In theory, the used prices of Microfreaks should go down now that the Minifreak is out?
