"The lightest component is the one that doesn't exist." Great line.
That comment reminded me of Elon Musk saying something similar regarding the development of Starship. He said something along the lines of, "The best part is no part."
Colin Chapman said something very similar, "Simplify, then add lightness.".
Less is more
@@anydaynow01 Chapman was such a legend for that line, "add lightness" is such a funny oxymoronic statement.
I loved itw when he said......"it's Sunday morning and the wife and kids are still asleep"...yeah BABY!
Then go home an take family to church😊
If the best part of your Sunday is when your wife and kids are asleep then you need to rethink your marriage. Why marry someone when you don't enjoy being around them? I'll never understand boomers in that regard.
Who's married? It's a joke snowflake.@@Auto_Peasant
@@Auto_PeasantI love my wife and kids and I can relate. It’s not about avoiding them, it’s that so much of your time is devoted to the family you love and care for it’s nice to have some guilt free personal time without having to sacrifice family time.
@@Auto_Peasanteverybody need somebody, but sometime need a me time too.
We are beyond fortunate to still have Jay
And he’s looking good since that facelift!
Wipe your mouth and clean your needs !
Now he just needs to stop lighting himself on fire.
He's got the Life Cycle Impulse like a BMW
@@dimetime35c Or letting Reynolds roll him 3 or 4 times in the passenger seat.
Jay: "it doesn't get more exciting than that"
True.
Ian Briggs was a great guest, and what a great car. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed your time in the Mono R Jay, it suits you 😉
Fantastic bit of engineering. Amazing creation...
Seeing Jay have a good time is an absolute win!
Mad respect to the Briggs & their BAC Mono.
This is one of the moments when this show just shines, shines, shines.
I bought one of the old models 3 years ago expecting just to do the odd track day. I did 11,000 miles in it. Just bought another (later) one. Sublime machine, there's nothing like it! Currently looking at overtime jobs to pay for a Mono 'r' LOL! (Unlike you lucky people in the USA we have to wait for the Winter to finish before we can get back on track. Not long now...)
Nice weather in saudi
username checks out
Most of the USA isn't California or Florida 😂
"Unlike you lucky people in the USA"
Uhh... you know it snows in like half of the US right? My corvette has been in storage for the past 6 months, lol.
@@androiduberalles fair point, sorry being a bit parochial there 😁
Congrats Ian, you have come across SO well in this vid. I especially like how you thanked Jay when he complimented "the English". You also showed him great respect, and your enthusiasm towards "the automotive world" is self evident.
I typically strongly dislike videos with manufacturer reps, but he came across really well. He felt more like an enthusiast/ fan rather than a sales guy.
I haven't seen Jay this excited in a car since the "Hemi Under Glass" rolled over.😂😂😂😂
😹😹😹😹😹✨
I've heavily admired the BAC Mono ever since I saw it gracing the pages of EVO way back well over 12 years ago when they were first producing them... An absolutely beautiful work of engineering and art - they should be mightily proud of what they've created and still create ! LOVE the Union Jack-themed R... Cheers, from a huge fan in western Canada !
Verbal irony aside, the genius of the BAC Mono products/brand and Mr. Briggs is all about humility.
This is one of my 5 fav dream cars. Thanks to Jay for showcasing these.
It's just great having Jay Leno's Garage, thanks Jay!👍
I'm a huge fan of quirky British cars. There have been so many uniquely British gems and the BAC Mono is certainly one of them.
The Brits are the kings of Motorsports....
i've never seen jay's teeth in like forever meaning he had fun
never seen him smile like that when driving.
That smile usually means, "Sold!"
And did I pick up a little foreshadowing when he twice said, "And if your wife doesn't want you on a motorcycle...." I'm sure Mrs, Leno would like to see Jay limit his bike riding these days, especially after he was nearly garroted on one of his side hacks.
I wonder what paint scheme he's getting.
American flag theme with Blue Jean blue where dark blue normally is?.?.
Insane feat of engineering. Impressive car
Too expensive this Back-Mono that is why i 'm happy with my Go-Kart fitted with a Hayabusa motor + gearbox + brakes and exhaust it's a missile.. 💯🦽🏍💥💫💨
@@poplaurentiu4148 I’d love to build a little hayabusa powered track car someday. wish I could afford a Mono but gotta be realistic lol
I have had a Mono for 8 years now with over 10K miles and love driving it.
Nothing like a single seater!
10 million. That must be a recorded for BAC. wow
@@phillipalder9045that's an average of 142.69 MPH for 8 years straight
@phillipalder9045 M also stands for thousands too
I may have made some bits of your car
@@phillipalder9045not just BAC.
Jay you get the best cars to make videos with. Love your channel and you!
Man, Briggs has come a long way since he separated from Stratton.
Thought the same thing.
The ultimate go-cart!
If your spouse won't let you spend $20k on a motorcycle, just spend $300k on one of these.
I think he's meaning the inherent risk rather than the money
@@4Kandlez
Probably, but then I don't have a joke to make. Haha
😂😂👍🏼
A second hand turbo busa with more power than this car probably can be bought for $10k. That bike weight about 1/3 of this car too.
Starting price is $200k but I’ll be honest I didn’t even know they’re that expensive now. I remember them being like $150
I feel like it's such an extreme and fast car that any road review doesn't even scratch the surface so there's not much jay can say about it.
Great car. Well done
Having owned a Sunbeam Tiger II I always thought about 2000 pounds was light with a fantasy of a Lotus 7 with a v8... There it is updated to current tech.
I always liked the Tiger.
So glad to see BAC making it in the real world, this is awesome. Who remembers how much Clarkson loved this on old Top Gear?
That looks like so much fun. Beautiful cars.
If this had a glass (of course whatever material) dome shield (jet fighter type) that slid forward/back to open/close it would make it at least a tad usable and would likely be a highlight feature, and likely make it MORE aerodynamic. It would fit perfectly to the roll bar enclosure. Wouldn't even have to be airtight and could be removable.
Second this! The lack of even a windscreen makes this a deal breaker. As someone who is shopping for an Ariel Atom, I can say I didn't get really interested until they added the windscreen. I can't be the only one who doesn't want to look like a knob head driving around town wearing a helmet. To the people who say that you don't HAVE to wear a helmet in a BAC, I would ask, have you ever been hit in the face by a large hard insect or a small rock while at speed?
Well, i own a Briggs too. Two even. They go Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and are amazing in cutting my Lawn O.O
For the company owner to follow behind Jay in the other car is cool. Shows that he's not just a suit trying to sell something
One of your best episodes Jay. Thank You
I always look torward to Jay Leno's Garage on Monday. Awesome offering this week!
Would love one of these and a Bowler Wildcat for the weekends
That body design is my absolute favorite. The white colored upper body one really shows the form and the dramatic graphics. Great quality and fantastic attention to details. Thanks to you both for showing these remarkable cars.
Thanks for bringing these by, Ian! Great show, Jay and Crew! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
I've never seen Jay more happy doing a test drive.
Absolutely wonderful episode. Ian Briggs is very knowledgeable and speaks quietly getting my attention. Jay you obviously enjoyed the car.
0:08 we need more of this Jay!
A brilliant piece of engineering, and it's nice to see Jay excited about a car like this.
I LOVE the gulf homage paint scheme on that…..it is very well done and honors the 917 / GT40 era VERY WELL!👍👍
There's a lady down the street from me who drives one of these all the time. She's had it for years and I bet it has 10s of thousands of miles by now.
For a car like this, that's a lot.
I can tell you absolutely love this dream machine....Jay at his best!
This car took you back to when you were a child formula driver, i recognized the expressions, thanks Jay, Monday morning treat...WOW!!!
Great video, greater guest and even greater car. I laughed out loud when i heard Ian say, they never sold a set of brake-discs. BAC created an absolut weapon, what an enthusiasts car. Can't wait to see the Mono / R go up the hill in this years Festival of speed in Goodwood.
You realize how good this show is, when you can purely enjoy the car and guest and have the feeling of sitting in the gharage and listening to them as a bystander.
Nice to see Jay out having so much fun. And him sharing that experience with us...
Liked, shared and added to playlist, You rock Jay!
We’ve all dreamt of a F1 car for the road, so pleased these brothers had the skill set, background and passion to bring it to fruition. It’s the perfect blend of engineering, design and quality. Most people get that balance wrong. One of few products that can be appreciated by any person whether they are car enthusiasts or not.
Well I may never own or drive one but I do have one in my Gran Turismo garage - one of the first cars I bought in the game. WHAT a machine. So glad stuff like this exists for the lucky few that can own one. Cheers!
best part of the week
Thanks Jay, You have shown me so much. Thank you for all the things you share with us.
You gotta love Jay, the essence of class
these cars are epic, pure perfection
Jay has some of THE BEST TOYS... and knows how to have fun.
I’ve never had a dream car… sure, there have been some that I thought would be nice to have. I NOW have one! Holy smokes! Beautiful! The perfectionist in me while watching this, was satisfied! When Jay giggled during the drive I laughed out loud! Incredible!
Wow...they packed so much into a 30 second show. Automotive innovation at its finest. Cheers! 🏁
So glad BAC are still making cars, these look frikkin epic !!
BEST PRESENTATION EVER ! Bravíssimo BAC !!!!! .................... and thks a lot JLG!!
Love these cars. Such unique vehicles
Thanks for the great video!
So fun to watch Jay really enjoy a car.
Jay just like you were driving a Monaco Race Car. 🏎️ Thanks for sharing!
💯👍👊
Impressive engineering and quality. Attention to detail and performance. Synergy of driver and machine
Boy that freeze frame really shows life. Man & machine becoming one. @23:05
One of my favorite videos on the channel.
I've never been more jealous of another person then right now!
Jay has earned it but I so want it!
Agree with the gun shot! Love it!
Jay has so much fun driving different vehicles everyday🤟
Great to see Jay enjoying the car so much.
Happy to see cars like that are still being made and sold. So many SUVs these days would love to see these rockets more
That was super fun. Love the design & concept. Great to see so many small bespoke sports car manufacturers able to survive & thrive: Czinger, Gordon Murray, BAC, etc. Great time to be a filthy rich car lover. I’ll have to befriend one.
I really wish the old school UK Top Gear still existed so the stig could take this around their race track, I’d love to see where this would place on their leaderboard
26:06 That, right there - that smile is what it's all about!
Very cool , would love to drive one and see how it feels . Thanks for sharing
Angry Bee's that go really fast!
Makes me proud to be British. That's hard to say these days
Yep
Which is just lame. I’ve got a lot of English blood in me.
Jay always delivering amazing content!
Jay always finds the right words to describe it. Thank you Jay.
Well done to BAC from the NW of England, just a few miles down the road from me. Jay LOVED IT! Wow. Not sure I'd ever be able to afford to try one. We need one on Auto Mundial.
Saw one a few years ago at a meet in DFW, super cool
Wild Machines for the ultimate experience. Thanks Jay. 😎👍😎
Turn it on and the wife and kids won't be asleep any more, but it's so fast, you'll be long gone before they get out of bed.
Your reactions while driving it Jay says it all. Clearly this is the bee's knees. I now know why, even over here in the UK, finding them is like looking for hen's teeth. Thanks again Jay!
I remember seeing Jeremy Clarkson's review of the original one on TH-cam. It's so great to see that they're still making cars. So many of these small car companies go under in a few years. I hope to be able to afford one some day. I wonder how this compares to an Ariel Atom or KTM X-Bow. Thank you.
Mr. Briggs' comments about the difference between plastic molding versus 3D printing totally check out, and it's good to hear it any manufacturing context.
Batch-size matters!
And, yes, this is a "luxury" product, but it's a perfect example of the type of component manufacturing that just gets more and more important as we "re-shore" industrial output.
(Think security implications. Not just weapons. A division gets a one-off batch of a thousand aerial drones that have a special hook to do who knows what.)
Mr. Briggs gave a great presentation. 👍
Handsome bloke with a great beard.
I think the last time Jay seemed this excited to be driving a vehicle he was sitting in a Porsche 918 Spyder. Amazing pieces of engineering and Ian Briggs was an awesome representative for his company, humble and he really knows his cars.
Thank you for sharing this view of a car that will undoubtedly go down in automotive history. Beautiful, technologically advanced, and street legal. Outstanding piece of kit...
Brilliant cars from a brilliant company. I live 2 miles from the factory and look out to see one all the time. Can’t think of anything else that compares at any price.
Jay, laughing out loud. Priceless... john
I did over 25K miles in a (nearly) 250bhp Caterham on both track and road, and when I sold it, it was with its original brake pads which looked barely worn. That weighed 520Kg (without the fat knacker behind the wheel).
It did go through tyres quite quickly but as Ian Briggs noted here, you have to choose different tyres to those sold for normal road cars because normal tyres are simply too hard - lightweight cars just can't get them warm enough. I ran my Caterham on Avon tyres which are specially designed for lightweight specials.
I love big American cars but I am proud of the British specialist car industry and the (relative) freedoms of our laws here that permit cars like the BAC Mono and Caterham to still exist.
This is next on my list to add to the stable. I'd even take an early model from 10 yr ago. They just look so cool and are bloody fast on the track!
This was a great show.
With out Jay Leno doing these Videos on Extreme Car's and such, I don't know where we would see anything like it around here in California?? Thanks Jay. Loved it. Now we are all trying to Loose weight to fit in one 😂😂....
Videos on extreme car's what?
When you buy one they tailor it to fit you exactly. I am 6' 6" tall, 290 lbs--Im not sure I'd fit in the envelope. That eliminates the concerns about how to pay for it.
Ya, not so sure that Wilt Chamberlin would Fit Either If he were still around?? 😂😳...
"O" I guess like the TESLA SEMI Truck, Motorcycles with Rocket Engines on em, Underground Tunnels for Vehicle's to Travel through, like the Video he did with Elon Musk and the Cyber Truck. You know, Stuff like that "EXTREME WHAT"!!!! Stuff.
Jay always have the coolest cars😎👍
What a fantastic, lovely guy Jay is ❤
such a quality product. These boys know what they're doing
TY Jay, awesome car for sure.
It's a go-kart -- very cool
Amazing little machines!
Jay as always great info on your video I did not even know these were in production? However I had this very idea but a 2 seater. One seater is great!
Jay I was thinking of coming by? And we could take a look @ my Audi A4.
I love coming out to my garage and seeing my motorcycle there. I can't imagine seeing one of these in my garage. I'd never be in the house ! (not in there that much as it is.)
We are beyond fortunate to have Jay after that review!
