  • Nigeria is host to the largest seafood market in Africa. with close proximity to Cameroun, France, and other countries, seafood is easily imported into Nigeria.
In today's video, we take a trip to the Oron, a sea fish market located in Akwa Ibom State, where Nigerians buy fish, crayfish, and other seafood in bulk for sale in other parts of the country such as Abuja and Lagos.
You can follow the Uyo series to learn more about Uyo and Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

It's great to see the source of crayfish etc. Here in the UK food stuffs are now expensive. A family member brought us ground crayfish from Nigeria half of it was sand, so terrible.
    Great video, thanks

Akwa Ibom State is very blessed with aquatic resources as you can see. There are numerous large fishing settlement in the state, which include: Esin ufod in Oron, Uta Ewa in Ikot Abasi, Ayadeghe in Itu, Ishiet in Uruan, Ukpenekang in Ibeno, Iko in Eastern Obolo, Atabong in Eket, Ibaka in Mbo, etc. Apart from this big crayfish market in Oron, you can find similar ones in Ibeno, Ikot Abasi, etc.

Correction: Not every crayfish u see here come from Cameroon. There're fishing settlements in Akwa Ibom like Ute, Effiat, Okposo, Mbughu Uyenge, Ute Bramah and more. They all engage in fish and crayfish catching. I lived and fished in Cameroon and all these other islands.

Crayfish can also purchased at the Creek road market in Town near Borokiri Port Harcourt. There you will get varieties of native crayfish from Nembe in Bayelsa State. The Oron crayfish in my home State is one of the best. We are blessed in the Niger Delta just that successive governments have not been able to harness the potentials in aquatic business.

He is taking advantage of the women sellers . I as a Black American Man would have paid her three time the value of the Crawfish.

lol, you don’t live in Nigeria so don’t assume he is taking advantage of her. Sellers also take advantage of buyers and over here we price down a lot not because we are ripping them off but because most sellers raise the prices depending on how you look.
      This is negotiation
The first price you hear is not always the real price
Also, this is why we chuckle when we see foreigners in our markets paying exorbitant amounts for something that is not worth that price. If you ever go to Nigerian market, make sure you go with someone who knows the area well. This is not a charity case, it’s business
