    What would be the point to life without music. This completely blew me away, I'm floating around on a pink cloud at the moment, without a care in the world.

    I heard this piece for the first time today on Classic FM. I was mesmerised, by the music and her playing. Everything disappeared for those few exquisite minutes. Absolute perfection.

      I agree with @aschkinable, this music is even better when performed as intended, with the human voice. I recommend Kiri Te Kanawa's or Renee Fleming's version here on youtube.

    Wonderful to see this exquisite piece live! For those who want to hear the violin more clearly above the orchestra, and without the cheesy BBC intro music, the version on the album Silver Violin is the answer to those problems (and to life's problems in general.) Somehow she turns one of the very greatest opera arias ever written into one of the greatest violin pieces ever performed.

      I admit to trying to get past the intro. Agreed. And, also, agreed on her amazing performance, as well.

    Nicola's playing of Bruch's Scottish Fantasy is remiminisent of the Fingals Cave by Mendelsohn. You feel the sway of the boat as you cross the sea to the Inner Isles. Her Homecoming LP is sublime

    Wonderful, I hadn't even heard of Korngold a month ago - ClassicFM really does stick to the old regulars. This is superb, thanks for posting. And I can't believe somebody did a 'thumbs down'! Do philistines roam around here doing that to all the wonderful things?

    • @brianiles3215
      @brianiles3215 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry,only just seen this ( I try to ration my favorites!) I think another explanation of thumbs down is snobbishness. Sort of: too lush to be taken seriously. Although I think the logical place for such an opinion might be neutral. But of course they can't express that by a symbol so they'd have to come out of the woodwork and own to a comment then! Lovely as this note for note instrumentation is though, I think this 'aria' is better expressed by the human voice.

      Korngold must be one of the most underrated composers. And no thanks to classical fm with their miserably short playlist.

      @@jimwolstencroft8441 I have been a hugh fan of Tine Thing Helseth for some time. She ignited a love of the trumpet as a solo instrument for me, and that is how I first heard Mariett's Lied. I love every instrumental and vocal version I have heard, but keep going back to Helseth's version. She has a very diverse repertoire - I encourage you all to explore it.

    Beautiful, this instrumental version, but doesn't quite reach the height of pathos of the original vocal version -especially the duet. Of the many recordings, I still love Tauber/Lehman the best...
