    I would use this in a heartbeat! This would be an awesome accessory to my acoustic kit. I think this is the first real innovative electronic creative instrument for dryummers that is not designed to "replace" the regular kit that would actually be real useful and fun!

    It's funny how she was so quick to say she would never use this drum, and yet hadn't even touched it. Open your mind a bit people. I have heard this drum, and it sounds great in my opinion.

    I think you nailed it there Rossmorris - it is actually a great instrument despite its' IT limitations.

    After this review I can't understand why people still think it's unforgiveable that it has no MIDI. Very honest sounding, I'm really tempted to go for it.

    i heard from Korg, if you have the early Wavedrum without the 2x volume option, you can take it to an authorized Korg repair shop with a copy of your receipt and they will update your firmware for you.

    They are having a good time like kids and wanting to take it from others bloke hands!!

  • @tablaninja

    Good news for early WaVedrum owners. The x2 volume output option can be added soon. Korg is in the process of updating their service centers on how to fix the problem. I'm supposed to receive an email when it's ready and I was given 2 options for local servicing, The update will be free.

    Listen up folks, just heard from Korg. This didn't work on mine but maybe it will for you guys.
    To access the output control on the WAVEDRUM, please take the following steps:
    Hold Bank while powering up
    Display should say "1"
    Set to "2" with the value dial
    Press write 2x
    Re-cycle power

    Thank you thank you thank you for this in-depth review. I'm still working through your 14-minute vid, but it's fascinating. Would be cool to get two or three of these happening at once (which is = one Zendrum in price). Also fascinating is how percussionists are so unlikely to get involved with technology and RTFM... which is great, and opens a nice niche to be exploited (by me, hopefully :))...

    @2l841 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tablaninja:
    many thanks for the instructions.
    However, I had to change a little thing before it worked:
    Hold Bank while powering up
    Display should say "1"
    Set to "2" with the value dial
    Hold Bank and press write
    Re-cycle power
    (re-do to check that "2" is permanent)
    The volume is still not overwhelming but at least better.
    thx!

    i want one, im no percussionist but it would be usefull to have this kind of control for percussion in my music. even if its just for a Snare sound. something more versatile and realistic than using sampled snares. and something fun for Jam sessions with other musicians

  • @tablaninja
    @tablaninja 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    oh well, it didn't work on mine. Korg says they have a fix coming but you have to take it to a Korg Authorized service center for them to update the firmware. I will post when I hear it's available.
    Thanks!!

    @tablaninja if i buy my wavedrum today will i receive the one with the new firmware??

  • @beautifulmicia
    @beautifulmicia 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wanted to add, the original is far better in almost every categorie. They have had over 10 years to improve the instrument. My most recent wavedrum has the fix but it still has a huge volume issue.

  • @firehandszarb
    @firehandszarb 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    all comments about hurting your hands, this probably wont happen to a seasoned hand drummer, especially as the thing is electronic. for years ive wished for the drum version of the electric guitar and this is might be as close as it gets.

  • @beautifulmicia
    @beautifulmicia 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have gone through three of these trying to get one to sound like these. The first thing is to change all the settings to get a maximum sound. Not the best for hand players but if you hit with sticks it will function the best. You'll nearly break a finger trying to get the rim to get the PCM sounds at maximum response. There are 300 program spaces but KORG has only created 100. The 2Nd & 3Rd banks are filled the same as the 1St. There is really nothing ultra special on tap.

    I have the new wavedrum and the only thing that gets on my nerves is the extremely low output level. i noticed at the end of the video you mention a firmware update. does that mean mine has this option. i see nothing of it in the manual? wavedrum rules!

    Man, someone needs to build a retrofit MIDI kit for this thing. Love mine, but editing is so bad I just don't bother - which is a huge shame.

  • @stretta
    @stretta 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, never mind. I assumed there was USB or some way to use an external editor. That is unfortunate, indeed.

    Sounds great, that little LCD interface looks completely painful.

  • @PorchGlider

    I was dissapointed when I demo'd it at Guitar Center....Of course the one they had on the floor was set up wrong and had been abused. The middle sensor was bulging and pressing up deforming the skin. I told the clerk there that they needed to fix it and he just shrugged. Whatever.
    My take on this unit is that it's trying to make stick players and hand players happy but ultimately works better with sticks. I was not impressed by the sounds either. (maybe due to it's sensor)

    @bolijack Thats exactly what I feel as a recent owner :-((

  • @tablaninja

    crap, i must have one of the first ones too. i practiced with a kit drummer last night and with the wavedrum and powered mixer at 100% I was just barely audible. and this is a Yamaha P.A. system i use with one mic and tabla at about 50% and it gets plenty loud. and we know how soft tabla is compared to a drum kit!

  • @bolijack
    @bolijack 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just great as a shortcut lesson. There should be one in addition with more indepth instruction, because the manual doesnt help much here :-((
    Keep up your great job :-))

    @PorchGlider I agree, grabbing one and demoing it at GC made it seem like a useless toy. GC (and all of those places, really) are so deeply broken. Why do the sales people seem so pissed off? Oh right, because they can't afford to pay their rent... but I digress. I think it's time to give the Wavedrum a real try now... apparently you can't get a feel for what it does in 2 minutes... not sure yet.

    Hmmm Korg have a winner? I doubt that they actually have asked any percussionists what they would like to see this instrument to look alike or what features to have. If that was their targeted group for this instrument, they fail a big time. Too complicated, limited but does sound good I have to admit. I hope that the next generation will accommodate the musicians who just want to play without having a headache. The loops tempo needs to be a flexible. The storing the presets on SD card or USB or editor would be good. Good try but try harder ;-)

    NO MIDI or USB!!! A better visual interface would've been nice, it doesn't have to be touch screen, just bigger...

  • @stretta
    @stretta 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    MIDI? You're completely missing the point of this product. Go buy a standard MIDI drum trigger device, of which there are plenty.

    Awesome sound, but yes the LCD is rubbish, useless kaossilator like Nothing. Theres deep parameters but the hit and playing in this type of instrument is maybe kill lcd or other displays..!!!! this is why that ugly onboard ledclock:D

  • @iantoau

    1. 0:46 you should read the manual
    2. 6:12 percussionists aren't musicians!?
    3. 7:15 it is a synthesizer. only clueless people like DJs won't change the sound. hell, they won't even learn how to play the drums, hand or otherwise.
    2. 10:40 see point three. maybe add the person who is meant to be reviewing the thing. slack
    USB would have been great but the main thing i use on the original is a foot pedal. you can assign it to anything.
    but, most important, GET RID OF DJs! they are not musicians!!!

  • @PorchGlider
    @PorchGlider 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    No MIDI ..C'mon ...it's an electronic hand drum....I Knew it would never sound as good as my tabla, darbuka, pandiero, cajon etc etc....but at least it would have all kinds of interesting on board effects. Like my ROLAND HPD15 can sync it's rate drive effect with MIDI.
    Why didn't KORG shove some of it's effects into it and make them MIDI sync'ble
    That's the whole point in electronic stuff ...sync it to MIDI with a wide range of interesting effects.
