      The worst part is that his doctor told him he can't even work out for 6 months. After that he can do light trainings for the rest of his life. He didn't have a classical stroke, a vein in his neck broke during a training session. He was putting too much pressure on his neck.

    • @josipbroz363
      @josipbroz363 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before his first fight in the UFC, he had 56 fights in amateur boxing, 23 fights in kickboxing and 27 MMA fights. The guy fought 106 times in a period of 10 years. In 2004 alone, he fought 8 times. His best years were from 2001 to 2006. Imagine that today HW fights 8 times a year. This is what today's MMA fans cannot understand. These guys at the time fought the best and everything the organization could throw at them. Mirko was another type of fighter that he would fight against at any time, even if he was hurt. Not to mention he never talked nonsense and always maintained sportsmanship towards his opponents. A fearless legend!

    On his IG Mirko said that even though he has been retired many times, this time there's no comeback since he has suffered a serious stroke. He's looking to start training again as soon as possible but unfortunately he won’t be able to spar let alone fight. It's a really sad story, I would’ve loved to see the rematch king fight Fedor for one last match before ending it all. But that's just my greed as a fan, it's way more important to see my (or our) childhood hero healthy and well without any serious consequences of brain damage. Unfortunately that stroke was very serious and Mirko said that he had tremendeous luck in that situation. Apparently his neck vein literally exploded and luckily blood didnt go in crutial brain areas to cause damage. Weeks before that he had moments of neck pain and he also stated that he got unconscious couple of times while turning his neck. His doctors said that he should never again get hit into a head because every punch can be deadly. Next 3 months he will be on a medication and will have to rest in order to heal his vein. I guess he had too much wars and finally his body said enough. Brilliant fighter and true inspiration! Mirko you are legend!

    There is a bigger issue you haven't adressed, possibly because of the language barrier. I'm Croatian so I can tell you what happened. He fainted in the gym after telling the guys he feels light headed and that he fainted before, so he showed them by twisting his head to each side that he feels a bit lightheaded, and suddenly fell unconscious. He had a vein pop in his neck causing a stroke, after which the doctors that operated on him told him this was caused by all the training and stress the body has gone through over the years. Now he isn't able to even do light spar, as even a light hit to the head might be fatal. Mirko has to be super careful from now on. He was visibly scared from the whole event when he was on TV. It was a very sad moment for us all.

      Liberty or Death and the pace at which they fought in the early days was very fast. Overeem had over 50 fights when he entered the UFC. Fedor and Cro Cop consistently fought 3-4 fights per year for 9 years straight (13 years for Cro Cop) before turning 35. Take someone like Mark Hunt who fought much less in MMA (once or twice per year after 2001), he entered the UFC with a Artem style record (the UFC wanted to drop him from the roster). He went 4-1 and captured the belt.

    • @crimsonhero3583

      Cro Cop was 33 when he entered UFC. He was not old per say, but he had quite a mileage on him: 26 Kickboxing fights, 27 MMA fight and 56 Amateur Boxing fight all in span of his 10 year long career (from 1996-2006).

    • @gustavusadolphus9246
      @gustavusadolphus9246 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Crimson Hero that’s exactly what I mean by “pace of fighting”. Most people just say that a fighter’s prime is between 25 and 35 years old which is completely false. DC and Randy Couture started fighting in their 30s and fought at a sustainable pace so they were able to extend their careers into their 40s while still being at the top of their divisions. Branko Cikatic, Peter Aerts, Fedor, Cro Cop, Semmy Schilt weren’t able to hold their primes for long, most of them fought at the top for 12 years (Aerts is closer to 13). Meanwhile, you have old guys like Couture, DC, and Werdum who still dominated in their 40s. Also, notice that they’re all wrestlers and don’t take as much damage as strikers.

    • @ant4613
      @ant4613 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Liberty or Death This, and a few other factors, such as injuries and a pretty big but overlooked factor, the fact that between MMA and kickboxing, he had never fought in a cage before. It clearly is extremely different, as evident by the last RIZIN card with Darrion Caldwell and Brandon Halsey.

      @@vaterpolistzg Totally agree with you, but this one knows only hard core fan. To me is funny that Mirko did not do more research before choosing his entrance song. Guess it is because there was not Google at that time, and Alta Vista did not worked on that day :-)
      We all know that Mirko has nothing in common with Duran Duran.
      I can't remember, but this sentence I picked up from TV commentary , author maybe could be Zelg Galešić.

      @@89mrsa To me that song is a great pick for an entrance song. His walkout especially in Pride was epic. That song, anti terrorist squad shirt on him and legendary Pride lady screaming Miiiiiiirkoooo Crooooo Coop like she is possessed. Everything was spot on imo. He used also song called Dođi u Vinkovce by Croatian rapper Shorty and one time a soundratck from a movie The good, the Bad and the Ugly in UFC i believe.
